I visited Big J's for the first time the other day from an associate referral. I consider myself a food critic and I can say if you are a Fried Chicken lover they serve some of the "Best" fried chicken I have ever eaten. Better than "All" the "Big Chain" Chicken restaurants.

My food was served Hot and Fresh. The service was welcoming and friendly it felt like home. The macaroni and cheese, plus potato salad I ordered for my sides were cooked and mixed to perfection. Most importantly the prices were affordable and reasonable.

I assured them they had secured another customer and that I would definitely return.

This was the best fried chicken I've ever had! The owner was so kind and the service was great! Hushpuppies, fried okra and Mac and cheese were also amazing! I would give this place 10 stars if I could!!!

I officially found it. The best BBQ place in Asheville. The owner is the sweetest man on earth and his family that is running it is great. The food was out of this world, and was a great price and came out quick! Go support good local folk, it’s way better than the chains around here anyways. 5 stars all day!!

I must have driven by this place a half a dozen times for work and hadn’t had the time to stop. Today I was able to squeak some time in and it was worth it. Not a dine in restaurant more like a take way given its size. How with such a small building they put together such big tasty flavors I’ll never know. My friend had the roast beef and I had fried breaded chicken wings. It was all worth it! I’ll be stopping by here again and getting my favorite new bbq joint!! Cheers!

This was the finest BBQ we've ever had. Prime rib was delicious. The ribs were huge. The side dishes were incredible. Sauce was perfect.

We look forward to many Friday lunches with Big J's Bubba-Q.

The best BBQ I have had in Asheville, by far. Staff are awesome and relaxed. Definitely a local gem that needs to be preserved. The pork was incredible with and without the sauce. I could have eaten an entire box of the hush puppies. The cole slaw was a great balance of creamy and vinegar.

I was looking to try out a new BBQ place in South Asheville, and I came across Big J’s Bubba-Q. It sits on Sweeten Creek across from the always-busy Rocky’s Hot Chicken Shack. Well, this is a shack of its own, truly, and serving some of the best BBQ anywhere. I grabbed a half rack of ribs, and ate in the car. When I opened the lid I inhaled that oh-so-good sharp and sassy vinegar sauce. Yum. And, my plastic fork wall all I needed to coax the meat to fall off the bone. This was truly superb, and worth a drive. He’s only open on Tuesdays through Fridays, so make sure you plan to go on the right days.

As many have written, I'd always wondered about this place, and then it happened!

I'm from Kansas City, so you can bet I'm particular bout that Q. All of the other joints in town should send their pit masters here for a humiliating meal of shame for serving such mediocre food at their restaurants.

As a former truck driver I was able to drop by some of the best BBQ restaurants across the country. Big J's ranks up there with the best of the best.. 10-4!

Bubba and entire team is amazing! We used Bubba’s for catering for Funeral Repass and the food was perfectly prepared for us just after the service and Bubba insisted to have this ready and hot! There was more than enough food where many people were able to take home for later. Pricing was reasonable and we were beyond pleased! Thank you Bubba and Team!

The folks were so friendly and the pulled pork sandwich was amazing!
We decided on the way out that we were family.
Go and enjoy the food and the folks

AMAZING BBQ. And for a very fair price. Used to live on Texas and these 2 meals with 2 sides each would have run me a hundo easy. $42 here. And BETTER.

Great BBQ and awesome people. I showed up to order about 5 mins before they closed and was worried about being a bother, but not only did they serve me some of the best brisket I've ever had, but they gave me extra portions and sides just to be nice! Will be back for sure.

A little bit of a wait for the food but oh so worth it. The chopped pork sandwich was almost as big as my head. And the sweet BBQ sauce had something in it I still have not figured out what but dam was it good. Wish I lived closer to try the rest of the menu! I over heard someone saying the Brunswick stew was on point gonna have to try next time!

I dream about the roast beef. It's so amazing that we have ordered an entire roast for the past 5 Christmases with extra homemade horseradish sauce. The fried chicken, bbq, green beans, etc are all out of this world delicious, but I love the roast beef and our entire family looks forward to our Christmas dinner. My husband's go to order is the pulled pork sandwich and my son raves about the fried chicken!

I was so happy when I noticed the Open sign was out here a few months back. I have good memories of great BBQ from here and hardly dared hope that they would be as great as I remembered. I went in and ordered a BBQ plate with green beans and potato salad. It was delicious. Better than I remembered! The portion size was large enough that I ate some that day and split the rest with my son the next day! The price is right too! They offer you sauce but the pork I had was tender and flavorful enough to eat plain. To me that’s the true test and Big J’s passed it with flying colors!
