The Temperance House

We read a very negative review recently, and were very reluctant to try Temperance, but we decided to go ahead and try it as it has been on our list for some time.
We had an extraordinary experience.
We ate in the room off the tavern where it was quiet, and the food and drinks and dessert were all excellent!
More importantly, the service was super friendly, helpful, and Lisa went out of her way to accommodate us!!
So don’t always go by one bad review, see for yourselves!
We’ll be back!!

OMG What a great job Cathy has done at the temp. Her staff are awesome food is great beers are cold and the place is just welcoming! Now she has added another awesome touch to the place. Comedy night is absolutely hysterical we laughed all night and man did that feel great. The service was great and it was so well ran we had a great time.

Best hotel and bar was very great. I had a view at the main Street and it was beautiful all lit up at night. I would definitely do it again. We were celebrating our granddaughter's 21st birthday and this was her pick to have dinner and stay overnight. We had a fabulous time and the scallops were wonderful along with potatoes and broccoli. I enjoyed myself.

Great boutique hotel located in the heart of Newtown. Ideal location on State Street which is lined with unique shops. Lots of history in the area. The restaurant and hotel has original flooring from the early 1700s. Would recommend!

My work family and I had a wonderful experience at Temperance house. Tammy was amazing and we were a rowdy bunch. She was top notch!!!

Only had dinner did not stay. Dinner was very good. Bartender was excellent and very knowledgeable of the craft beers and made a good drink.

Wonderful experience at this unique rustic establishment. Bloomsburg University Alumni had an event last Thursday and the Blues music was on point along with the appetizers and drink specials. All the staff was attentive and made this a special summer night for all that attended. I'll be back to listen to some more Blues Music. 🎵

The old Edward hicks Mansion converted to a bed and breakfast was a bit pricey but worth it. The food was exceptional. We did not stay in the bed and breakfast

Our experience started out a bit disappointing due to our check in being chaotic. The poor bartender was by herself to tend the restaurant and check us in. However, I felt bad for her and honestly, she deserves a raise for managing that situation herself. Our room was cozy (room 5) and I loved the historic charm of the building! The location is nice as there are many restaurants and shopping opportunities.

Nick is an absolute gem. Had a blast just having drinks post eagles win 🏆 great service silly vibes and fabulous music

Live this place. Get food and beer selection. I think the owners used to work at Isaac's Newton's so u know they know their beer and food!

Monday night trivia has been absolutely fantastic since I started coming. The bartenders are fantastic, Trish and Nick are wonderful, helpful, and really make the experience that much better. Nick's massive "presence" is occasionally an inconvenience (turning around, he'll occasionally knock glasses off tables), but it's worth the infrequent spilled drink or stolen dates.

I love to come out on Thursday nights to hear Steve Guyger play the blues on his harmonicas 😎

We just had my sons baptism reception at the Temperance House. My wife and I highly recommend the Temp house. The food was really good, drinks were great, and all 50 people in our party were satisfied. The price was very very fair as well.

The owner, her name is Kathy, even let my son roll around in his walker on the dance floor. This was very nice because he is 10 months old and although he was passed around like a football, he likes to have his independence. In addition, Kathy cut the cake for all the guests, because my cutting skills, well let’s say, is not very good. I never thought an owner would do this but Kathy was amazing.

Also, the staff there decorated for us, and made the banquet all look amazing. We truly had a great time at the Temp House and will be definitely booking future parties here. We will be coming more frequently as well, as I really liked the variety of the menu. Plus it’s such a nice historic location but with up to date amenities.

My one family member stayed at the hotel. He told me the room was so clean, ( please note my uncle is a clean freak, little obsessive 🤣 He was blown away how clean it was, and he said his linens were in immaculate condition. Lastly, he said the bed was extremely comfortable as well.

Finally, if you want to have a party here, get a bite for lunch, have a business dinner, date night or want to watch sports. I highly recommend the Temp house 😊

We had both of our kids' birthdays at Temperance and have dined there too. This a gorgeous establishment, with incredible historical value and very reasonably priced. The food is absolutely delicious and the service is worth every penny. If you want to visit a historical venue and get delicious food, this is the place for you!! Plus, they will accommodate their menu for your littles too. :)

The food was exceptionally well prepared, the music was both calming and reminiscent of music I love and grew up with! The drinks and Cocktails were superb as well an excellent place for cozy dining experience with a loved one!!!

Great place. Though the bar was busy, the service was exceptional. Normally I avoid “live local music” because I want to actually hear my friends when they talk, Wednesday night was awesome. The music was set at a perfect volume and the talent was great. It’s a great place to take a couple people for a nice, easy, comfortable dinner and drinks.

Had an event at the tavern. The staff was so helpful and professional and made our time there fantastic. The food is great too.

Very kind and helpful staff. I had a last minute stay to avoid wintery weather, and they were happy to help! The room was nice and warm and had a beautiful view of the main road. Everything was clean and cozy! I can't wait to come back!

Now that the service is excellent again, I can highly recommend the Temperance House. Lots of tasty dishes for a variety of occasions, ranging from tavern food to elegant sit-down dinners. Excellent beer list, too. Been very pleased three times in a row.
