Newtown Hardware House

Great store! We were visiting the bookshop and my husband wandered in and we actually spent a few minutes talking to two guys working there who gave us a history lesson about the building, the town and even showed us some cool super old pieces they’ve found in the basement! Hubby got a new pair of garden gloves he very much needed! If we’re ever back in the area we’ll go back just to say hi!

This place is great. A REAL OLD SCHOOL Hardware store. Not to mention the best cookies around. Yes, Cookies at the hardware store.

No matter what I need, I am never disappointed at the Newtown Hardware House! They seem to have absolutely everything!!!

I was looking for salt pellets for our water softening system. They were quick to find it and load it in my car. Excellent customer service and carry a wide array of products!

When I travel, I always look for a hardware store and am never disappointed in the home-town hardware store. They had great gift ideas, great chocolate and great service. When I arrived, they were closing the store for the evening (and I didn't recognize the cues - even with the owner standing at the door). They still treated me with respect and allowed me to look around. I enjoyed our conversation and my small purchase. Service at it's finest!

Tim was amazing at ordering me the ball canning jars I couldn't find anywhere. Excellent price (cheaper by $5 than Amazon).
I'm a fan of shopping local at such a great old-fashioned hardware store.

Someone once recommended I take my kitchen knives here for sharpening. I never would have thought of going to a hardware store for this service! I called today to see if this could be done same day. Most places I'd researched previously, wanted me to leave them for a few days. Not Newtown Hardware House! Now of course, I don't know if this is always the case. I may have just called on a good day :) However, I brought my knives over right away. I did a bit of shopping in the the town and came back about 30 minutes later. My knives were ready and waiting; bagged up securely so that I wouldn't cut myself! I even received a first time customer discount! So all in all...super quick, friendly service from a place I never expected to find myself. Bonus: the store has been in business since the late 1800s! Never thought I'd want to browse a hardware store, but I'll definitely be heading back there! Side note: I tested out the knives and they a super sharp now :)

We are so lucky to have a local Hardware store that has so many great products and services. Every time I go to the store, I learn so much, and they can quickly find the part you need or tell you if they don’t have it. Between this store and ACE hardware, I rarely need to go to the big box hardware stores.

Every town should have a place like this. Besides having all the stuff you want in a neighborhood hardware store - plus unexpected stuff like great homemade cookies or a Hawaiian ukulele -- their paint expert does a great job matching my home's wall & cabinet colors for my touch-up jobs. Nice folks too. Worth stopping by every few weeks to see what's new.

Best Hardware store in the county! They have saved me a bunch of times while I have been renovating my house which is from 1779.

Love this place, the smell, the products, the design, the toys, and the cookies! And the staff are super helpful too! They do the little things, especially for historic houses, that other places don't. And they have one (at least) of everything else!

A wonderful store - far preferrable to the big box stores. Somehow they really do have what you need (whatever it is) and they sharpen knives! Parking is always easy and they carry stuff out to your car, if needed. As I write my husband proudly wears their "dirty hands, clean soul" T-shirt.

Really enjoy my visits and time spent in the store. I recently decided to build a zipline in the backyard for the kids - they had everything I needed and provided some great advice to ensure the cables were secured properly. Going back again today to get some more materials...to make another zipline...kids are loving it!

Whether you need a screen repaired, the missing screws and stain for that shelving system project, or a balsa wood glider to keep the kids happy while you wander through the aisles; the NHH has got you covered. Plus, you get to interact with a coterie of knowledgeable hardware guys that are always ready to help you find what you need or learn how to use it. The original and long lived. Highly recommended.

Wonderful shop. they have an amazing selection - I've never asked for something they did not have - and the friendliest, most knowledgeable staff I've ever experienced at a hardware / home store. We're lucky to have them in town.

I absolutely love this hardware store! Their staff is helpful and professional and despite not having the selection or prices of a Home Depot or Lowes they are a LOCAL, SMALL BUSINESS and I prefer to support local businesses.

This quaint hardware store has everything!!! Better inventory and service than the big box store. This place is a true treasure and what hometown America is all about!
