The Downunder

We wanted a place outside of Iowa City for a quick drink and bites. Randomly found this pace, we walked in and were instantly welcomed like we had been there a million times. We were BLOWN AWAY by the hospitality by this family owned business. The Hog Wings came highly recommended and let me tell you, I will be dreaming about them tonight in my sleep! hOLy. CoW.. never had anything like them ANYWHERE in the country. We will ABSOLUTELY be back here again.

Was up in West Branch for a soccer game!! We always try to eat somewhere close where we're at !! So I Google searches and found this place and I am so glad we did!! What an amazing place!! Love the atmosphere fireplace was awesome!! Will definitely go back when we can enjoy the fireplace!! Our server well she was great very friendly!! Talked about our kids being in show choir just made us feel like we have welcome!! And the food was great!! We had the nachos as an appetizer and I had the extreme Panini and my why had the down under Panini!! Next I will try their hamburgers because they are made fresh!! So I would Highly recommend this place if you get a chance you won't be disappointed!!

This gem is in the basement of an old hotel and is eclectic with the perfect atmosphere - stone walls and fire place make it perfect. Air fried menu selections that are delicious and nachos that are to die for! Good selection of beer on tap with some local crafts - great place to meet friends, not too loud - just right!

Very nice and cozy bar in a cool cellar type setting. Staff and owner was friendly. Lots of TVs and the owner was happy to change the channel to watch my requested game. Good selection of on tap beers and food was tasty. Would definitely recommend if in the area. Walking distance from Hoover presidential library.

Stumbled on this hidden gem as I was traveling I-80. Excellent cider. Delicious blue cheese burger. Great service. Highly recommend as a treat to yourself!

We just moved to West Branch and decided on a Friday night to stop in and try a place new to us! Service was excellent and friendly, the place was clean and had a great vibe. Food was tasty and just what you'd expect from pub comfort food! I had white wine, my husband chose beer. We will be back for sure! The wood burning fireplace was an added bonus!

We went to the Down Under to watch the game. It was very busy when we arrived. It appeared that there was one person taking care of the bar and all of the tables, I believe her name was Shawna. She did absolutely great! There was an issue with some children running around and she handled that situation great. We ordered nachos and they were delicious. This place has such a cool atmosphere and we will definitely be going back.

The historical ambience was unbeatable! The pub owner was friendly, and the customers were kind. The beer was cold and fresh. The samples were generous. Try the sours on tap! Delicious!

When you step inside The Down Under, and the fireplace is going you’ll see why this is a gem in downtown West Branch! Mike and his staff and great and they have a good variety of food (to go options too) and beer too. A great little bar!

Hidden gem (in this case literally). Not the easiest place to find because it’s around the corner and well underground. But when you are able to find it you will find beautiful brick on the walls and some really cool people that work there. The food is amazing the bar small in the Fireplace definitely adds to the ambience.

Newly updated cellar type bar and grill. Great food and drinks. Helpful friendly staff. Cool original huge fireplace 🔥. I want to go back in winter when it's in use.

Stumbled upon this bar while walking around the President Hoover historical site. Fantastic service and excellent food! Would definitely recommend! Will be back!

I love the cozy atmosphere with the brick walls and fireplace. Fun bartenders. Good food. Also fun to stop for happy hour drinks and snacks.

Have only been here for drinks but each time we visit we have a great time. They make you feel very welcome and the atmosphere is great!

Wonderful rustic basement bar with amazing air fyred green beans and drinks! I would reccomend the spicy southwest burger.
