The food was way better than Perkins down the street. Pancakes and omelette were very tasty. Friendly service and there was no wait for a table. French toast was great! Had the chicken fried steak this morning, absolutely delicious!!! Super tender and the gravy was great! Service was great!!

Had breakfast at The Family Café.. staff was kind, service was fast and food was delicious. Some of the best breakfast sausage I’ve ever had! Crispy hash browns too. Would definitely recommend. 👍

Very clean, family operated restaurant. The food and service were fantastic! To me, hot fresh food is important. I had the #1 breakfast combo of two eggs, hashbrowns, and two strips of bacon with rye toast, and it was all piping hot!

Will definitely return, we had the chicken and waffles and chicken fried steak meals. They were both insanely amazing, fresh and hot! Very large portion on the chicken fried steak, came with a side of toast or pancakes and I got the pancakes. It was all great!
The restaurant has cute diner vibes and you could feel the family-run atmosphere, all around great breakfast! Very reasonably priced and a huge menu. 10/10 :)

Family Cafe has become my favorite weekend place for breakfast or lunch. Their pancakes are absolute perfection with the option to get them with chocolate chips if the urge hits! The service is fantastic and you are made to feel like friends and family!

Super friendly staff… me and my son had chicken strip baskets. The breading was different and very good! They let my special needs child play on the floor AND gave home free very nice toys!! We will absolutely be back!! Thank you for a great lunch!!

If you are in the area, stop in for one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. Food great, hot, service absolutely wonderful. Prices very reasonable for what you get!

Darn good breakfast, delicious hashbrowns and the Philly omelets is better than cheesesteak sandwiches I've had in town. A+

We never did get a refill to drink because our waiter didn't return after delivering the food and we did have to eventually track someone down to pay the bill.

In town for work and came here looking for a good breakfast spot and I was not disappointed. I had the french toast, eggs and sausage and it was easily the best breakfast I've had in a long time. I arrived around 11:30 and being that I was the only one there, my food came out pretty quickly. I will definitely be back here before I leave.

Never been here before but decided to give them a try for breakfast. Doesn’t look like much on the outside but don’t let that fool you. Wonderful, friendly employees and the food was EXCELLENT!!! Will definitely be a repeat customer ❤

Great tasting food, both in quality and quantity. The staff is friendly and extremely helpful. There is plenty of parking available and is easily accessible.

We heard that The Family Cafe was under new ownership and I myself have had many meals at this building my entire life dating back to Maidrite!!! So we went out to support a new “Small Business” and what an excellent experience!!!

The service was spectacular! They made sure we had everything we needed and even checked back with us (rare nowadays)!!

The food was authentic home cooked breakfast!!! My favorite!!! Perfection!!

Keep in mind this is an old building and it’s one of the best kept for its age!! We will be back!!!

Love the old school diner vibe here. Great service, cooked to order bfasts, Blueberry pancakes 🥞 😋 .99 bottomless coffee..what more do you want? a little light on the hash browns serving but they're crispy on point. 4.5 stars.

This place is awesome, food and service, top of the line, sure, it is not as fancy and up-to-date as most place, but it is clean, food is great, and service was awesome, nice little family restaurant, where good people run it, and they are doing there best,

We come here all of the time for the BEST breakfast in Des Moines. The biscuits and gravy are amazing and they always make my toast how I like it. The chef is so kind too.
