Behind the Bookstore

Our go-to place for lattes while vacationing in Edgartown! The staff and atmosphere are awesome. I recommend the vegan coffee cake, raspberry cruffin, or any croissant. If you get there at 7 am, all the pastries are hot out of the oven. Dinner is good too, but their specialty is great coffee.

Great outdoor atmosphere! Out of the way- literally behind the bookstore! Matcha and chai lattes are very good…homemade (not the fake stuff). The Italian toast is amazing along with the avocado toast! They have gluten free buns which I used for my Italian toast. So yummy! A little pricey but it’s expected. They serve breakfast lunch and dinner -there’s a bar too. Will come again!

Fantastic food and cocktails. This restaurant is always a must anytime we visit the Vineyard. The Hemingway Bar is great on its own if you can’t get reservations and just want a great cocktail.

Everything was perfect! As a solo traveler, the servers made me feel right at home and checked in on me :) Jose and Mila deserve all the praise, service 10/10! Food was great, specifically the shrimp, Caesar salad, and panna cotta. The Chardonnay was the perfect pairing. Will be back!

Very cute spot to come relax, get some coffee or food. It's also right in front of a bookstore. Perfect place to get a book and sit down and read with a coffee. I got the mocha because it's made in-house. The staff was incredible nice as well. Will come back when I'm in town again next year.

This was our first lunch on our trip to MV, and it was delicious. Enjoyed a delicious lunch here... mushroom toast. The iced coffee was excellent too. The cafe is located down a pathway full of flowers and herbs behind the bookstore. Tables are outside under a custom awning that feels like you are dining under a piece of art. Look forward to coming back!

Delightfully well run. Do not leave the pastry counter until you have your pastries. Otherwise someone will steal your muffin and you will be admonished.

A great patio atmosphere that encourages a relaxed upscale Cafe Bistro vibe. Our table ordered almost the entire lunch menu and the youngest member of our party stopped us before eating so she can take pictures for Instagram because the food was so beautiful. The staff started off cold but warmed up to us and we ended up enjoying every aspect of the experience.

Perfection! The food is delicious, everything from the homemade scones to the avocado toast, to the fresh yogurt and granola. And the coffees and lattes are wonderful, hot or cold, and the garden is well spaced out and has a lot of tables and is even covered for a drizzle of rain.

We just stopped into Behind the Bookstore tonight to end out night with some delicious desserts and we ordered their Tres Leche and Chocolate Mousse. OH MY GOODNESS, everyone must go and try these! Growing up in the Dominican Republic, tres leches was a staple and the BTB version is SO deliciously authentic, I can't wait to have it again. The Chocolate mousse was definitely decadent and indulgent, the perfect treat at the end of the night. Plus, nothing better than a coffee or tea at the end of the night! Our server Mihaela and busier Silvia were so professional yet friendly, best service ever and great ambiance at night!

Great food from local farms on the island! It's a bit pricey, but so delicious.
Got the squash, bass, lamb burger, and lobster pasta.

Behind the Bookstore is Edgartown's hidden gem coffee shop and the best place for a well made espresso drink that Misha, the head coffee manager makes. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, the food is also so delicious! The lobster roll is made with fresh lobster they cook themselves, very delicious roll indeed. They have an outdoor space that on a warm day is so nice to just sip a coffee or if you have to do work, they have WIFI and you can do some work on your laptop while enjoying the space and coffee. They offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner during the season on MV.

Talk about your dial! This place is amazing! By FAR the best coffee on the Vineyard. Asked if they could do an iced pour over, which no one ever says yes to, and they did! It is sooo good. Will be coming back every morning! Super friendly owner and staff!!

I've been to many different eateries all across the island and BTB is by far my favorite. Chef Molly Levine heads a terrific staff that strives to provide high quality plates relying heavily on local ingredients. From the excellent breakfast shakshuka to the clam toasts and back to the top notch baked goods back in the cafe, BTB has delicious offerings for all. In addition to the wonderful food, the outdoor garden atmosphere makes it the ideal place to be during the spring, summer, and fall!

Breakfast and pastries are amazing. Such a nice hidden gem and a cool spot. Cruffin is a must have. Came back at night for drinks at the Hemingway Bar. Ivana the bartender crafted the cocktail menu herself and made delicious drinks that were unique.

Literally a hidden gem on Martha's vineyard, a go to spot for breakfast, first time I had Moroccan coffee and it was amazing.

Intelligentsia coffee with excellent baked goods. Great meals too.
