Church of Saint Bonaventure

The relaxed and welcoming personality of this parish shines like a bright star at a time when The Church has suffered a black eye in public perception. I would urge others who may have let their Catholicism take a back seat to the challenges of everyday life try a few weeks of Sunday worship here, I think you will feel you have found a home.

I used to go here twice a month for the Serran meetings, the Adoration Chapel, funerals, and other appointments with my Spiritual Advisor. It has recently had a Capital Campaign which added several new meeting rooms, a small kitchen, glass walls which open up the Sanctuary wonderfully well, plus a few little nooks to explore. I really loved the Franciscan Friars who served the parish for years. I have met many parishioners, who are warm and welcoming. They have a school.whose cafeteria, and kitchen, is used for many parish get-togethers. Also, the parish invested in a bus to get people to Mass, who don't drive, yet want to continue to be able to contribute to the parish, despite age or disability. They have all kinds of activities throughout the year, that most all family members are able to participate in. They have parishioners who go out to visit others. They have a wonderful parish structure, which also includes a Parish Council, as well as other groups. Teenagers have their own gathering space. There is a good choir. The parking places seem to be plentiful, as they are situated on both sides of the church. The audio during Mass is very good. It's a big church,, but it has light walls inside, so it is light and airy, not overpowering. Every day there are people who come to St. Bonaventure and they gather to pray from The Christian Prayer together. These are primarily regular people, not the priests and nuns who usually gather together and praise God. It is a large parish in terms of the land area, within the city of Bloomington. So they have a few garden areas that are good for meditation and quietude. I've saved what I consider the best for last. I love stained glass. So much so, that I learned how to do it myself. St. Bonaventure has only one stained glass window. It is located behind the altar, so that anyone can see it, no matter where they are sitting in church. It's a glorious window! It tells you about St. Francis of Assisi, who founded the Franciscan Order, which is the one that the Friars belong to. The window has some of the brightest and most vivid glass. The way it was put together by the artist is amazing, because, instead of being the flat glass like in most stained glass windows, it's sort of chunky. And I believe, that it looks so impressive, because of that technique the artist chose to use in making the window. I think that you too will be stirred by its impressive, yet quiet beauty.

I would recommend talking to the Priest. Getting to know the church, and making your Owen decision for you Owen self. Have a wounderful new year coming.

Went to see a musical theatre perfomance they were putting on - Great show and beautiful vocal talent.

Had a funeral for Chris McMahon the pastor was awesome feeling much better RIP Chris.

Another great place for outdoor activities, lots of room for the kids to run around, play softball etc

Fish fry was great. Best ever.
