Umami Japanese Restaurant

I've been to Umami a couple of times now and the food has always been fresh and delicious. The sushi is great, as are the bento boxes and the tempura! The atmosphere itself is very nice and laid back, and is overall a good spot to grab a bite with friends and hang out. I love their bao buns, and always ordered the mixed tempura. I would definitely recommend this place for sushi, as their rolls are plated absolutely beautifully and are always delicious!

This place is awesome. Didn’t expect great sushi from a campus restaurant but due to the ratings we stopped in. Everything was delicious. Their rolls that have krab have a slight sweet taste that we all loved, really sets it apart from other restaurants. The Dynamite was also different from what we are used to, instead of having a thick sauce on top that is broiled until browned, they fry their roll and put their spicy Mayo on it and then put fried shrimp and scallops on top, beautiful! Everything we have was great.

The food is always great here! We've ate in before and ordered takeout. The prices are very reasonable. Today it took a little long for someone to come back and check to see if we were done eating. I think they might have went on break or something, but when we finally did catch one of the servers, they brought the check and to go boxes very quickly. I still love their food and will go back again!

I ordered take out through DoorDash and decided to get a new place. Oh boy am I happy about this choice! The rolls were amazing, the fish from this place just tastes different, so fresh and flavorful, melts in your mouth. Poki Poki salad is 12.95, this place offers poke salad for $13, but the quality is 2x better. The lemon roll - out of the world fresh. I’m definitely visiting this place in person. Even my 5-year-old son gave his sushi a thumbs up!

Well now I know what the hype is about regarding this place. This is 🍣 sushi on a whole different level! The spicy lemon just melts in your mouth! The super albacore was amazing! So much fish and so delicious 🤤 my favorite sushi that I order everywhere I go as a means of comparison is Philadelphia roll, even this simple roll was just different. So fresh and flavorful. Not sure what flavoring the chef uses but it’s just right!

This place is absolutely amazing! The interior, decor, and even the food is beautiful; you can really tell they put an effort into their restaurant. I also noticed this is family owned. You can also really tell the fish is fresh and the name is on point because every bite is so flavorful and filled with an umami flavor. The servers are friendly and everyone looks like they enjoy working there. I really recommend this place!

The timing was right! Thursday early evening around 515pm! We opted for nicely shaded outdoor seating. The staff totally masked up. The tables were spaced out so other parties weren't up in each others' business. I think it'd been a year or so since my last visit. Brought my "someone special," this time. She especially dug the lemon roll. I dug...ALL OF IT.

Great food. Had 8 piece Sashimi with salad bar and Truffle Sashimi with an oyster shot. All so very delicious.

Great place to enjoy sushi. Very tasty selection of beers with your typical classics such as Sapporo and Kirin, to Elysian Space Dust IPA and Golden Road Mango Cart (5 stars for the beer alone... So good.) Got the Fireball (was so good, had to have it twice), Cougars (nice and artsy) and the Spider roll. Chef Brandon was very nice and friendly, you are sure to have a grand time dining at the bar if he is manning it!

My family loves sushi. We have several favorite local restaurants but Umami is by far our favorite! When the kids get to choose a special meal out, this is it. In fact, it is what they request for their birthday dinner. Let's start with the food. The presentation is gorgeous: beautiful colors, fresh fish, topped with edible flowers. Seriously, who does that? Jenny, the owner, that's who. Then there is the flavor. Oh my! Melt in your mouth, savory, wonderfulness. We get sushi, rolls, ramen, bento boxes, every item is superb! The ambiance is lovely, too. Well-lit to see your food, interesting lighting fixtures, orchids, and an entire wall of LED screens showing video of a Cherry Blossom Garden in Japan. It is relaxing, and part of the experience. We were disappointed when COVID closed inside dining for this one experience. We can't recommend Umami enough.

Absolutely fantastic service and food. I would recommend trying to get a reservation as there was a bit of a wait when we got there. Don't feel pressured to eat inside either as they have headed lamps outside so you'll be very comfortable regardless.

Great food and a lot of menu options ranging from ramen, sushi, sashimi, bao, bento, and various combinations. Prices are descent (anything with fish tends to be more expensive than the ramen or bao), plus they have different lunch and dinner prices for combos/bentos. It was nice sitting outside on their patio. Service was quick as well. Great experience!

Food was so good! And Amazing fresh quality! The service is outstanding! They kept my water full which is always nice, every singe waiter checked on us and the food came out so so fresh!

I love this place! Sushi is delicious and thoughtfully prepared and served. The service is great too.

Great food. Good prices. Sat outdoors and had a wonderful time. Rolls are large and So good. Parking not the easiest nothing real close for free but was worth the short walk from the parking garage

Hands down the best sushi we have ever had! The staff was awesome. Friendly, quick service and the prices were right. Eat here!!!

This is probably one of the best japanese spots in southern California. One of the few places I have had ramen that actually tastes like what I had in Japan a few years ago.

This place was fantastic! Food was delicious, presentation beautiful. Service top notch. Had a wonderful time. Outside seating was comfortable and clean.

The food is truly amazing. The service excellent and the prices were extremely fair. Keep it up!
