We were traveling from Massachusetts on a college tour with my daughter when our engine light came on. Not knowing who we could trust, I found Sam’s Automotive online. They had terrific reviews. When I pulled in they immediately diagnosed the issue and thankfully I was just low on oil. They filled it, gave me some helpful advise about other colleges to check out, and off we went! Terrific guys who took excellent care of us!

We are out of towners who had car trouble in Asheville. We first took our car to a mechanic who gave us an estimate of nearly $4000 for a long list of problems, including about $1000 for axel repair. Sam's fixed the axel for a little more than one half of that, $550, which took care of our problem. He didn't try to sell us unnecessary repairs. Totally honest, fast efficient and expert.

I have used Sam's Auto twice for major repairs in the past 2-3 months. The latest one being all the struts replaced on my car. Darren and TJ are AMAZING! I have had 2 great experiences! They both are funny and take the time to explain what the car needs. Their prices are great and I feel confident driving away knowing I received the best service in town. Between my friends and myself we have used A LOT of local shops and this one by far is the best on price, knowledge and customer service! I can not recommend them enough!!!

I went to Sam's Automotive because of the stellar reviews, and I was not disappointed. My 2012 Chevy Sonic kept overheating and I knew something was up with the radiator. I brought it in to get it checked out and a few hours later, was called with an estimate. Unfortunately, it was beyond replacing my radiator and hoses, and a new fan and thermostat also needed to be ordered and installed. I was at work so I wasn't able to approve the thermostat install, but was promptly texted and was told they would work with me on the price (the new estimate was $1400, and my original estimate was $811). I figured they would knock off some of the labor for the additional parts that the car needed. The snow storm delayed me picking it up, but when I walked in today they showed me how deteriorated my old parts were and were very open about a 3% surcharge if I paid with a card. I still used my credit card but was amazed that the grand total was $835 (with the surcharge). I could have cried, I was so relieved. Daren and TJ were so friendly and kind, and very transparent about the issues they ran into while working on my car. My car was ready in less than 2 days, so they were also extremely efficient. I am very grateful to them, and would absolutely recommend Sam's to anyone in the area that's having car troubles. You can tell this is a no nonsense business and they won't ever do extra work that isn't absolutely necessary. I have been to many mechanics who have sworn up and down that the work they did would fix the problem, only to wind up spending way more than I bargained for to get work done that wasn't needed. Sam's is the opposite. They are honest, fair, prompt and won't overcharge you. I would give them 10 stars if I could!

I've been using these guys for more than 5 years now for nearly all of my automotive repairs. I appreciate their professional services, honesty, good value and they can have a pretty good sense of humor too. On a recent visit, my son had to have his Jeep towed to Sams because it was overheating. The fix, tightening a few hose clamps and refilling with antifreeze. The cost? $0. I was stunned, but that's the kind of real Asheville service you get at Sams.

We have been looking for years in Buncombe County for a conscientious, knowledgeable, honest, straight-talking, auto repair shop with fair and competitive prices and where the customers are treated like people and not sheep being run through a shearing competition.
About three weeks ago our car needed routine service and attention to a few more serious matters. We decided to give Sam’s a try. Sam’s was able to get us scheduled in a timely manner and complete all the work, being true to their estimates. They took the time to answer questions and to be sure you were satisfied with their work and understood the problems and the fixes.
If you want friendly, quality service by experienced mechanics you can trust, at fair prices, try Sam’s. There are not enough stars to rate this business properly. We are going back.

These guys did an absolutely fantastic job, very fair on the price. Also went above and beyond what was necessary to make sure my Tahoe was in good shape before I got it back. Easy to deal with and courteous. Definitely would recommend them

I have been here many times and always get great service. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. I was having problem with battery keeping a charge.
AAA said alternator was fine, battery was dead and gave me a jump. I drove truck about 40 minutes and took back to Advance Auto where I bought battery and was still under warranty. They said alternator needed work, battery died while there, got jump and went to Mr. Tire. Mr. Tire looked at truck and said it was ignition. They couldn't fix it because they didn't have master mechanic.
So I called Sam's Auto and explained what I was dealing with, took truck in. They looked at it and said it was IGNITION not battery, key was coming out in any position. They replaced ignition at a very reasonable price and I had my truck back on Tuesday, took it in Monday. They are very reputable people. I recommend them VERY HIGHLY for your car issues, if they can't fix it, they will tell you.

These people are so kind. I went to Sams because my neighbors recommended them. Both of my neighbors had taken their cars in because they though something was wrong, most mechanics would FIND something so they could charge the customers, these guys were honest and nothing was wrong so they sent them on their way free of charge. I just took my car in and didn’t know what was wrong with it but was completely sure I was going to need a new car, they diagnosed the problem and now instead of buying a brand new car that really isn’t in my budget, I will be getting my car fixed for about $700. I am so grateful for their honesty and for their kindness! Can’t recommend them enough!!!!

I was feeling defeated about my car situation. Daren was compassionate and allowed me to come in right away even though they were busy. TJ and Daren took time (30 minutes or so) to look at my van for coolant leaks, even going as far as lifting it to look underneath. They didn't find any leaks but instructed me on what to be looking for, what the issue could be and told me I could bring it in during the week if the problem persisted. They did not charge me for the inspection even though I asked what I owed them. These two guys are good people, you can just feel the warmth, empathy, and care which is rare. Very grateful.

This is my new spot for truck repairs. They did a great job fixing my coolant system. Quick too. They’re friendly, they’re fairly priced and they know what they’re doing. What more could you want?

TL:DR Sam's Automotive repair fixed my clutch for $300 after initially telling me the repair would probably cost $550(part)+labor. They are honest, fair, communicative, and professional. I would recommend them to anyone.

My clutch went out in my subaru afer 65000 miles so I called around looking for a shop to repair it. I saw all the reviews on here that praised Sam's auto for being fair, reasonably priced, and professional in their services. I had the vehicle towed to their garage on Broadway for the appointment date they gave, at which time they took my info and let me know they'd call me in the morning to tell me what they thought was wrong.

I got the call in the morning and was quoted $550+labor for new master+slave cylinders, which I okayed and they ordered the part. A few days later I got a call that the car was all set and it would be $289. I couldn't hear the gentleman well and thought he said $1089, which i repeated back to him, but to my pleasant surprise he told me no, in fact they didn't need to replace the parts, just replace an O-ring. I was thrilled!

Turns out my clutch (I bought used) has always had an issue with that o-ring and after being fixed the friction point is much more comfortable and lower to the floor, evidently the way that they function new. They fixed my car for way less than I expected when they could've just replaced the parts and taken my money.

Honest mechanics are hard to come by. Don't hesitate to bring your vehicle to Sam's auto for whatever repairs you need , just make sure to call ahead--they have lots of loyal customers!

Sam's Radiator is wonderful. Very rarely can you walk away from car repairs with a smile on your face. Sam and his staff are friendly, do quality work, explain the work being done in understandable terms, and work quickly. And very important with this economy, his prices are reasonable and lower than most repair places around Asheville. (I called 5 different places for a quote; his was the lowest.) The repair work on my car took less time than was on the estimate, and the final price was changed to reflect that. I will be going there again for repair work. I would highly recommend them to others! (Work done: radiator replacement.)

Sam's is what auto repair shops were like before the days of the impersonal and substandard mass-market shops.

I've been there a number of times over the past few years. They always are able to work on my Jeep immediately. The service is professional, honest, reasonably-priced, and very personalized.

They don't just do radiators. Each time I've been, it's been for something different. ...and batteries are sold at cost plus a small installation charge.

I highly recommend Sam's.

I had to get one of my oxygen sensors replaced and my “check gauges” light was coming on and off every few seconds. I called Sam’s first thing in the morning and they immediately squeezed me in. In less than an hour my van was fixed up and ready to go for a VERY decent price. I’ll definitely be returning to Sam’s for any future repairs/tune ups. Thank you!

My Sonata was acting weird so I brought it in to get looked at. They inspected it and found nothing wrong. So I picked it up and drove it around, it seemed fine! (Thank goodness)
I called back to ask what I owed them for taking a look at it and they said nothing! I’m very thankful for the kind service. I will 100% be bringing my car here if it has issues again.

I've never reviewed anything in my life until today. There is a (lot of) reason this guy has 5 stars-- He's honest, he's thorough, he's knowledgeable and he is more than fair.
I've had a lot of issues with my truck, and it's been worked on from NY to NC and this is the only guy I want to go to from now on.
Thank you Sam & Team. So appreciate your hard work!

Needed information on replacing my radiator on my 2006 Ford Explorer which are notorious for radiator leak problems. Called Sam's and spoke to Sam. He took the time to explain the process, read me the Ford TSB's, gave me the estimated cost and time involved. Very helpful, informative and his cost estimate for the job VERY reasonable. I will be taking my Explorer to him in the near future for the radiator replacement.
