Moose Cafe

Never had a bad meal at Moose! Recently was in town with family and we stopped by. (We have been many times over the years) I ordered the Chicken & Waffles, and my wife had the French Toast. Food was hot, fresh and tasty. Add in a biscuit and you will walk away stuffed and happy!

This place is a staple in this area and has been here for decades and somehow we've never tried it. Finally went and it was really good. My husband got the chopped steak, Mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes and gravy. I got the buttermilk fried chicken with collards and mashed potatoes. Everything tasted great, the collards were tender and the country gravy on my chicken was so good. My only complaint was that the breading on my chicken was so salty I had to remove it. Saltiness is subjective of course but for me it was too much. Everything else was great though. Our server was also super friendly. Oh and the biscuits and apple butter they bring to the table were delicious.

Visiting from Cincinnati and we always make it a priority to visit a local diner. The Moose Cafe did NOT disappoint. The food was cooked perfectly and the complimentary biscuits and apple butter was such a nice surprise. Fairly priced, TASTY, great service and hospitality. Shana was amazing! Would definitely come back again. Given that we go to so many diners, this one gets a 10/10.

The fastest service ever! We waited 10 minutes to be seated then after ordering we waited less than 5 minutes to be served.

We ordered the NC Mountain Trout and the Old-Fashioned Cheeseburger. The trout was incredible and fresh and the burger was thick and very tasty.

We also enjoyed the incredible sweet tea and a very yummy black coffee!

The meatloaf at Moose Cafe is the epitome of home-cooked goodness. Juicy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned, each bite melted in my mouth, leaving me craving more. Paired with the savory collard greens, it was a match made in comfort food heaven.But what truly elevated my dining experience was the exceptional service provided by Alma, our server. Friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, Alma went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was nothing short of fantastic.

Hands down the best country food ever! The staff were so friendly and atmosphere was warm. They have a little gift shop and we purchased the hoodies which were definitely worth it. I can’t wait to try this place again on our next travels to Asheville.

A road trip through North Carolina is not complete without a stop at Moose Cafe for lunch or dinner!!! The meatloaf is to die for! Not pictured here, but we also get the fried trout whenever we go there, and it never disappoints! Portions are HUGE!

Amazing entrees, fantastic service and consistent delicious food. The apple butter alone is worth going here for. The white gravy is OUTSTANDING!!!! Always eat here when we come home to Asheville!!

I had heard about this place for a long time as well as driving past it, but had never made it inside.
Now I know that I have been missing something great.
The service was excellent and the food was remarkable.

My family and I came wanting to try something different for Thanksgiving and if I could give this place 10 stars I would! Food was beyond amazing, service was even better. Alma was the sweetest waitress! I’m definitely recommending to everyone!

Friendly staff, great food, clean surroundings! The bit i loved the most was when you sit down at breakfast, you automatically get greeted by your server with water & fresh hot homemade biscuits! Before you even order. It's paired with what seems to be a cinnamon applesauce spread. It was lovely. We went a couple times during our vacation stay. Will def go back!

I had an amazing experience at Moose Café on the outskirts of Asheville, North Carolina! The simplicity of the setup and the prompt service impressed me from the moment I arrived. The staff, a group of lovely, kind southern women, were incredibly polite and welcoming.

The gift shop was a delightful touch, and those jars of fresh apple butter were a real treat. Though the booth seats were a tad firm, our warm welcome from the southern waitress made up for it. The biscuits and apple butter were a true highlight, a taste that felt like dessert.

We tried both the burger and the grilled chicken, with the burger standing out as a hearty, delicious choice. The chicken, while fresh, could have used a bit more flavor. Still, it was a perfect, lighter option for a highway stop, especially compared to the bustling downtown of Asheville.

And let's talk about that sweet tea in a mason jar - it was divine! I couldn't get enough and ended up having four refills. Overall, Moose Café offers a delightful Southern dining experience that's well worth a visit.

Moose Cafe is a great way to start your day. They serve a fresh, delicious breakfast. They are open for lunch and dinner as well. The portions are very generous. We got to enjoy a beautiful view of the mountains and had friendly and attentive service.

If you don't try the hash brown casserole you will regret it. It was delicious. The moose pancakes are HUGE. Overall food was delicious and service was good too.

I love these restaurants that have a shop with merchandise to purchase!
Friendly staff, excellent service. Extremely large portions: blueberry pancake was bigger than the plate it came on! Not too sweet of a batter, so I wasn't left with the overloaded sugar slum after eating what I could of it!
Each person was treated to a homemade biscuit and fresh apple butter upon being seated. Great coffee! Family loved the hashbrown casserole-very unique!

Stopped here after Googling local eats during a day trip in the area. Delicious southern cooking! Reminded me of my Mom's. Most ingredients sourced from adjacent Farmers Market. Generous portions, too, so come with an appetite, or leave with some to spare. Great service and atmosphere. Payment by QR code at table vs waiting in line, a plus. I will be back. Highly recommend!

easy off and on via i-40. friendly place. was greeted as soon as myself and husband walked in, approx time was 1630. seated and got drinks and food ordered. 2 biscuits were served immediately with apple butter. apple butter wasn't like i am used to back home, had alot of cinnamon in it. we ordered sweet tea. it was pretty sweet. i ordered meatloaf with mac and cheese, green beans, and cornbread. husband ordered grandma's sampler with meatloaf, chicken and dumplings, mashed taters, slaw, mac and cheese, cornbread. the meatloaf is about 1 inch tall pieces! everything was delicious. food came quick, which im not fond of bc that means it has probably been ready for awhile but it was hot. we both ended up with doggie bags to take home. there is alot of history hanging on the walls. they sell the apple butter along with some jams. around $40 not including tip for the both of us. did not check out the bathrooms.

The food is always good, especially chicken livers! Last time, I got the chicken salad sandwich, and it was excellent. Big fat biscuits are served with homemade applebutter while you wait for your meal. Never been disappointed.

Found this place on Google Maps and the place had a very good rating, so thought I would give it a go.
Glad I did. Their biscuits are delicious and served with an apple 🍎 type of jam.
Went with the Chicken 🐔 Fried Steak with cabbage and Cole Slaw. All of it was perfect.
Staff was quick, friendly and helpful. They also have a great gift shop if you're looking for apparel! Will definitely come here again.
