This is a great trail close to San Antonio and UTSA. The paved trail is mostly concrete with patches rocky tar like paving. The upper trail is not paved, but still fairly easy to walk. The upper trail is clearly defined by a gravel path. You don’t need to worry about getting lost. I did one big loop of upper and lower and it was 2 miles. There were never any sharp or killer inclines. I felt it was gradual increases. This is a good family walk and it’s not nearly as busy as the other more popular parks. It’s also a good trail in nature to run and not fear twisting an ankle. There’s a small parking lot and a real bathroom not porta potties.

Great shaded path with some flat and some climb. A complete loop is about 2.25 miles. It was so beautiful, I trail ran it twice! A beautiful hidden trail in the midst of the city. Places like this are hard to come by! Just leave your dog at home as it’s a dog-free zone.

Great park in northwest SA off Babcock. It was busy on this Saturday afternoon with all parking spots taken. Lots of beautiful wildflowers to greet you as you arrive! 😍 We did the complete trail, about 2 mi. One thing to note, the trail goes from smooth gravel path to rocky uphill terrain real fast - plan accordingly. If you take the shorter inside loop It stays all smooth and gravely. The posts give you a heads up: Level 1 vs. Level 4. Disappointed we didn't see more wildlife while on the path but like I said, good amount of hikers, joggers, and strollers this morning -:930-1030 am. Great place for a weekend visit. Get outdoors! ✌🤠

A modest park that allows one to enjoy the outdoors. The park consists of two defined sections: Red Oak Trail and Bear Grass Trail. The Red Oak Trail is a level one ADA trail that is 1.3 miles. The Bear Grass Trail is a .6-mile Level 4 trail that requires some walking up significant elevations at times. I suggest wearing hiking boots or at least shoes that tie-up. I was wearing walking shoes without laces, so some parts of the trail consisting of steep slopes and rocky ledges were a little more challenging. At the front of the park were restrooms, water fountains, and a canopy. Per their posted policy alcohol, bikes and pets are not allowed.

Choose between an easy pathway or a level 4 ... both beautiful

Beautiful trails, stunning hill country views. Very few other hikers. About 50% is paved/handicap accessible/stroller friendly, but there are also some genuinely challenging bits for the avid hiker. Beautiful mosaics/mural at beginning of trail as well. Visit in the spring when the wildflowers will greet you in the parking lot.

If you like hiking this is a good place to enjoy nature. No dogs allowed and no bicycles. Two loops are available one bigger loop is a level 1 and connected a smaller level 4 loop. Bathrooms are available at trailhead. Usually not crowded if you go during the week.

A great place to have a walk. Not too far or hard. Saw a coral snake even at the entrance of the trail so watch out. Heard some grunts from hogs. A beautiful view of a canyon. A little more noisy from the city than Friedrich park. Still a great place to walk. Also check yourself for ticks afterwards.

Very easy paved trail. Great for running nor those with mobility issues. Scenic views (although cluttered with hilltop houses at times) Great for a quick walk or run. No pets or bikes allowed though.

Lovely heavily-wooded paved trails with options for rugged paths. Fun views of homes on ridge well above treeline.

I retired to San Antonio six months ago. But since the pandemic, I’ve only walked in my neighborhood and was getting a little bit frustrated walking the payment in my area. I found out about this park on the local news station A few days ago. I knew that the weather was going to get warm I decided to go early yesterday morning. Much to my surprise, it was most delightful to take a walk in the morning, had some sun, yet was shaded by the beautiful trees. I took the whole loopAnd truly enjoyed it.Loved it loved it loved it

It was my first time at this beautiful park, and my first time hiking with a group who knew their way around. I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially being with people who would pause to appreciate nature and beauty of it all. The trails are just right with levels to accommodate everyone. I'll definitely be back.

A medium-sized park with nice trails and interesting rock formations to view. A good place to hike or jog.

Pretty decent natural area. The Red Oak Trail is pretty much paved but if you want to get on the natural area, go out to the Bear Grass Trail.

All the trails combined are probably less than 2.5 miles, so don’t expect a whole lot. But the Bear Grass Trail is really good for bird watching and listening. Also, very natural, so you get to see Texas like it was way back in the day! Just don’t expect a rugged hike if that is what you are after. It is fun, but not challenging.

All in all, it’s a great park and not too busy – kind of a hidden gem in SA – so, SHHH, don’t tell anyone else about it!

Water fountains and bathrooms with running water can be found at the trailhead.

Good for an afternoon hike or some trail running. Don't expect to spend more than an hour or 2 here though.

Such a great trail! Public restrooms are a plus. You have the option of paved/graveled trail and/or a more rocky elevated trail. I was able to do two loops of both for about 4 miles. Not a lot of other people so you get to be with nature. Also the cavern views are so pretty!
