Amazing service and ambience, food is simple but great and I highly recommend trying the zabaglione for desert! Overall a great experience.

What can one say about a place that’s been around for over 100 years?
From the well worn steps to the classic old school bar and dinning room this place reeks of authenticity. The regulars have their regular seats but we like eating at the bar by the window watching the neighbours go by.

Never change ❤

I'm originally from Maine and stopped in spontaneously after my art show reception. Welcoming environment and good food!

After a more than 60-minute late flight, we sped walked to Gene's. They were so gracious, professional and warm even though we were "those" people who come in with 45-minutes before close. The wine service, table service, ambiance, and food are top notch. Highly recommend. If you must be "those" people, be quick and tip 50%.

This meal was one of the best! I had the chicken marsala, and it DELIVERED. The staff was very attentive without being overbearing. It left like an authentic Italian experience and I would definitely go back. Period.

The original “old school” Italian Restaurant serving very good dinners with great service. I thought I was back in 1960. This is an iconic spot and a fun place to dine.

Very special NYC experience...
Besides the expected Italian specialties, try the prime rib on Sunday evenings, as well as, the unexpectedly great herring in sour cream appetizer!

This restaurant has been a greenwhich village icon for a long long time.
Went in for a quiet lunch, old school vibes which I like. Good for family lunch and dinner.
We had the mussels, veal Parm, lobster, pasta and poached pear for dessert.
Prices are also quite reasonable

We were looking for some good Italian food one evening after completing our Greenwich Village ghost tour. We happened upon this quant restaurant. Our whole experience was wonderful. There was no wait, in fact this seemed to set it apart from the touristy and trendy places we had been visiting on our trip. It was quiet, so we could actually hear one another talk over a relaxing dinner. The service was exceptional, our waiter was kind, attentive, and funny. The food was perfect after walking 15 miles through the city that day. We ordered the Gnocchi, Alfredo, and my brother ordered the evening special, although I cannot remember what that was now, but we all really enjoyed the food. We finished dinner up with the Tiramisu, which was very light and creamy. Would definitely go back if I ever get back to NYC.

Gene's history of more than 100 years in the Village is especially appreciated as we venture back out to find what a post-pandemic New York will be like. Walking into Gene's can feel like a romantic return to a city that has all but disappeared, but if nostalgia were all the place had going for it, the appeal would be limited. Instead, you will find a marvelous bar that makes strangers feel like friends and a menu of classic Italian cuisine perfectly prepared.

Well, Gene's restaurant is camera ready for a movie. An old world Manhattan eatery with a great location. Foods good, crowd seems to always speak in low hushed tones & service is brisk,. Always lots of menu suggestions or favorites 🙂

Walking back from afternoon at broadway show to our hotel in the financial district we found this classic Italian restaurant. Very cozy and bar filled with couples eating - we were shown to a lovely table with a linen tablecloth . He had a fabulous arugula and tomato with blue cheese salad . I had a spinach and bacon salad . Both delicious. We had chicken parmigiana and shared an excellent Italian cheesecake. The prix fixed menu 38.50 was a great deal with three courses Check it out !!!!
