One of the best used books stores I’ve visited in a minute. Owner was extremely kind and passionate about his store. Turns out the place has a pretty legendary history, with many of the great Beats having visited and read at this location. Regarding the books themselves: his newer books will appeal to serious readers, and I was genuinely impressed by everything I saw. I beelined to the used books and found some rarities that you wouldn’t normally expect to find. Great selection of art books as well, but I’m traveling and trying to keep luggage light so I didn’t peruse long. Overall a stellar collection, fantastic ambiance, and a storied location. Can’t recommend enough!

A true bookstore gem. Selling new and used books, this is the kind of place you could lose a few hours perusing the bookshelves. The owners are delightful and very helpful, and have been in the book business for over 40 years. Every corner of this unique shop is filled to the brim, with an extensive and unique collection of books. They definitely don't make them like this anymore.

It is a beautiful little bookstore. Definitely a place to visit in San Diego! We found out about it last week because they were hosting a book reading for Yale professor Marci Shore presenting her new book "The Ukrainian Night". We really enjoyed it! I think this book store was around for a while and became very famous in the area. They host many books readings with famous authors, and they have many beautiful old books for sale. Highly recommended!

This is a top-tier bookstore. I've been to all the bookshops in/around San Diego, and this one is the best. The balance of used & new books will make you spend hours in the shop. The owner is a book himself - an encyclopedia that is - and will know info on any book you ask him about. My wife says the only drawback is how much time I want to spend in here.

This book store has character. And it has quite a few books. They have all types of genres and walking through and seeing everything is like a fun little maze. There’s also a back section with many used books for a reduced price.

The guy who I’m assuming owns it is kind, quite intelligible, and very sociable.

One of the best bookstores in San Diego. The owner is friendly and authentic. This a true book store; it’s not commercialized if you’re looking for self help and celebrity biographies this is not the place for you. Please keep in mind that there are many rare and discontinued editions that they sell here so the owner takes extra precaution to preserve his collection so please respect that. Coming here feels as if you’ve entered a time capsule; it’s a true gem in La Jolla.

They have vintage books - lots of books! Very nice and friendly owner.

amazing selection of new and used books (in the back). Nearly every genre is well represented, and if you’re a serial book-browser, you will have a hard time leaving this place. I have spent hundreds of dollars a year here, easily. The prices are about the same as you would find on Amazon, they don’t over-charge for used books which is very refreshing.
This is one of the few bookstores I still visit. Warwick’s across the street is good, too, but this one has a much deeper selection. I mean you will find a book on 12th century Jewish theology if you look hard enough. It’s incredible.

I don’t know what the other reviewers are talking about in regards to the staff members being mean. They are older, they may be curt, but not mean. If you’re looking for a serious place to book-browse, go here; if you want a place that will hold your hand and treat you like royalty… I wouldn’t expect that from a book shop

Excellent little new and used bookstore. They have a huge selection; plus, pictures, posters, signs from all sorts of sources to decorate. Talk to the owner, Dennis. He'll find what you're looking for.

Any chance I get to stop by here is amazing. This place is magical: rare, vintage, reference, and odd books, vintage prints and sheet music... in every category you could imagine. Half the fun is the discovery as you wander through narrow passage ways, looking through shelves as high as the ceiling. Definitely a gem!

The gentleman who rings out my purchases at every visit to this store has always been so knowledgeable and welcoming. He gave great recommendations based on the books I bought and introduced me to my new favorite author. Amazing store, wonderful experience!

Visited D G Wills books today and was so blown away by their collection that I had to write a review. First of all the space is awesome. Floor to ceiling books, the place feels unique and cozy.

Then I started going through the racks and found their selection to be extraordinary. They had new and used books, and a wonderful selection. The art collection was great, as to was the design and architecture sections. I've been trying to find a book on the writings of Michelangelo for months (it's out of print and I can't find it used online anywhere), and there it was sitting in the stacks for $7.50. Awesome.

Definitely swing by if you're in the area, or better yet, make a trip of it even if you're far away. You won't regret it.

this bookstore was so cute. ambience was only enhanced by the extremely cute boy who i met in the prose section of the store and whose number i profoundly regret not getting. he was so so tall and wearing a fishboy tshirt. fishboy if ur out there plz plz lmk if european monastery book was good for the thoughts or just the bookshelf

This is a magnificent bookstore with a long and storied history in the area. Shelves aren't so much well stocked as they are finely curated. Every book my finger lands on is something I not only want to read but feel I must read. The owner is a very friendly guy and fun to talk to. Please don't miss this wonderful store.

This is my favorite bookstore. Hands down. I've been going here for a decade. Fantastic books you can't find anywhere else, new and used. You want that new lit book? You want Greek philosophy in the original Greek? You want musicology/science policy/art/achitecture/geology/film history/philosophy/poetry/everything else books you didn't know existed and never knew how much you wanted? They're here. And the owner is the best man on Earth. Go here.
