New Dominion Bookshop: New Books & Gifts

I've been to a lot of bookstores and this one is my favorite! It is almost as if the store was curated for me and my wife. We could have spent all day in there and the next time we are in Charlottesville we will! I walked in and instantly noticed this book calling to me on the shelf. There were many others I would have liked to purchase as well! A fantastic store and we can't wait to come back!

New Dominion is a cozy, wonderful place to explore and a vital part of the community. They support local authors and host great events like Friday Night Writes. Staff are really friendly and knowledgeable. A great place to stop in when you’re near the downtown mall.

Wonderful independent bookseller on the Downtown Mall!

Super cute bookstore! The employees were very friendly and willing to help with any questions we had. The selection was pretty nice :) if you spend a certain amount you get a cute tote bag! I didn’t see a ton of horror books, but I was able to find one I’ve had my eye on for a while. If I lived closer I would be a frequent shopper here :)

Got to walk around in here for a good minute! Very cute and organized and helpful staff with a pretty solid selection. Wish there was a bit more mythology selection but great nonetheless

Cute local bookstore featuring mostly new books. Attended a fun local poetry reading here, love an independent bookstore that builds local community! Could use more books on scholarly critiques of religion but decent selection for a small store.

I'll be honest, I have never visited this store in person. But they were very helpful when I asked for a signed book of A Mirror Mended by Alix Harrow from their release event. You do have to pay over the phone, but the book was mailed promptly and was protected not only by a padded envelope but cardboard rubber banded to the cover to preserve the corners and the dust jacket. Thank you so much!

Nice bookstore with a good selection in a beautiful building. They even had a stand with New York Review Books which is something I don’t see very often. Employees were friendly and helpful!

Excellent bookstore with knowledgeable staff and excellent COVID protocols. Do not be deterred by a locked door during store hours as they are limiting number of customers but we had the pleasure of the store to ourselves. Felt safe and sanitized. Excellent collection of books. One of those stores and walk in and see everything you’ve been meaning to read. Very nice staff.

New Dominion Bookshop was tremendously helpful with creating a care package as a gift for a loved one. I worked with them both through email and on the phone and they were always prompt with responding. They personally tailored a book list based on the recipient's interests, gift wrapped them after asking for my input on gift wrap options, and delivered them to a location in the Charlottesville area. Their customer service is top notch and they have a knowledgeable staff with a great collection of books. Fantastic!

This is my favorite place to buy books. It's a beautiful setting for exploring, especially if you are spending a few hours enjoying the downtown mall. The staff is excellent and will order whatever you need. If you visit on a weekday (post-pandemic), you can make the afternoon perfect by heading a few doors down to Timberlakes for an ice cream soda afterward.

Went Christmas shopping here and had a great experience. I had to wait outside to get in as they try to keep patrons in the store limited during COVID. Once in, they had so much to choose from. I was shopping for multiple people and they had something for everyone. When I couldn’t find certain books the staff was super helpful. Great little bookstore.

Attentive staff, great selection of books, and surprisingly local authors. Exploring around the shop introduced me to two or three different authors I would have never recognized otherwise. Definitely check it out.

The staff is friendly and the books are brilliant! They select great books from a large range of topics and will order them for you if you can't find what you want. The staff selections are always on point.

Best bookshop in Cville! Beats B&N hands down! Incredibly attentive and intelligent staff who have good handle on keeping up to date. It cannot hurt that they have a large selection of NYRB classics -- well done!

My favorite bookshop in the area! So many amazing books along with great staff. It’s a beautiful building with tons of natural light. If you’re in the area, you have to stop by.
