Hogwallow Flats Overlook

We used our annual National Parks pass to enter the Shenandoah National Park and made our way up to the lookout. Skyline Road is in excellent shape and made for a fun drive. Watch out for the early morning wildlife -- we had several white tails dart out in front of us. There are many places to view the sunrise, but taking the advice from another reviewer, Hogwallow Flats did not disappoint. At 7:am on a Friday morning, it felt like we had the entire park to ourselves.

Spectacular sunrise location. We arrived 30 minutes before the scheduled sunrise and watched the foggy valley transform.

Be alert for deer crossing.

This is another nice, scenic overlook inside Shenandoah National Park. It is on the left side if you are heading south.

Beautiful sunrise location; also particularly gorgeous on foggy/stormy days. Generous amount of space. But can become busy on weekends at times. Includes informational display detailing common local wildlife that live beneath the trees.

If you are a Cyclist this is the an amazing place to ride. Ride up Skyline drive to just climb or to add a good mix to the training routine. From the Front Royal entrance is 4 miles uphill to the Welcome center, then it changes to a mix of everything. Traffic is less during the week.

Such a unique and precious preserved Nat'l Park. The views are breathe taking and the Skyline Drive is awesome for camping, hiking, and outdoor activities. Unplug and treat yourself to the quiet beauty of Appalachian Mountains and waterfalls throughout the 64 mile scenic drive.

I can't comment on JUST Hogwallow flats, because the whole Skyline drive was beautiful. It was tough to get a good view from any of the overlooks due to the heavy fog. But i think the fog adds to the beauty of the area though, and gives it a bit of an eerie vibe. I would recommend all the overlooks, fog or no fog

Beautiful area to watch the sunrise. Although I was there to Hopefully catch a glimpse of the Comet NEOWISE, which I didn't the sunrise was beautiful.

These overlooks shows the vastness of the surrounding and how remote this National Park is from civilization.

Without a doubt this is my favorite east facing overlook on Skyline Drive.

If you're in to photography you'll be hard pressed to find a better location to photograph a sunrise. Arrive early and wait for the magic to happen right before your eyes!

My favorite time to visit is during fall when you get an amazing view of the orange and yellow colors. The view is amazing and worth the stop.

I mean...it's an overlook. It's in Shenandoah. There are a ton of overlooks on the scenic drive (which I think is over 100 miles) and they're all beautiful. There's parking at each one so it's easy to stop.

Scenic overlook
