Nice place with a lot of options for hiking. We went to see dinosaur tracks. The hike is about 2.5 miles one way, 5 miles all together, it's not difficult at all the only thing is that there are a lot of rocks on the trail, u need to pay attention to your steps and sturdy shoes are a must. There are benches along the way, and once you arrive at the destination. We spent a good amount of time looking at the dinosaur tracks... It is so cool to see it, and the more you look at it the more details you see .

My wife and and our daughter did a day hike at Government Canyon. It was another beautiful Saturday for hiking. This is 2 weekends in a row. This just might become a habit. That is until it gets too hot to enjoy these hikes. Cost is $6 per person. No dogs are allowed on the trails except for the lower trail that is just a loop. Of course you still always have those people who believe that rules apply to everyone else except them. Get out and enjoy God’s creation.

A real gem hidden in San Antonio, they have some really awesome vistas and really rewarding trails (excuse the finger on the camera shot lol). The pictures show some succulents right off the a trail, growing in an interesting damp environment. They have clean restrooms and camping options too, great camping for people who don't want to rough it in the middle of no-where

I had an incredible experience at this state natural area! The highlight for me was the fascinating dinosaur tracks, which were a major draw for crowds, and they did not disappoint. The hiking trails were not only beautiful but also quite manageable, making it a perfect outing for a Saturday.

What truly impressed me was the low crowd level, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the natural beauty and history of this place. I kind of figured there would be an elevated level of crowd because of the nice weather, but I was thankfully wrong.

Five stars all the way.

Good family hike for family with kids from 7 year old to 13 years old. Did Dino tracks and the overlook. Total miles were 6.7 and walking time was 3 hours. Stopped at tracks and had picnic. Beautiful hike. Overlook has no rail, so definitely cautious with kids.

Very good area for hiking with many trails. I walked 8 miles with my kids 6 and 13 and it wasn’t difficult for them at all. The only thing that needs to be improved is entrance process. Long line that moves very slow and they don’t accept AMEX.

Beautiful state Park, we did a guided 5 mile trek to the dinosaur tracks. Beautiful flora and views along the way. Marian and Gabe were outstanding guides.

Great place to hike with friends and family. There is an entrance fee to this beautiful park. Make sure you go the restroom and take some snacks and drinks. The trails are different from one another. Make sure you wear proper shoes and clothing depending on weather.

What's there to not love about nature? Government Canyon State Park is great if one loves hiking and exploring. Getting to the dinosaur tracks is about 4 miles in, it's worth the effort. And the house that sits further down the trail is great to see. I will return for another visit.

This place has so many different trails, from easy to really long! You can spend all day there, and learn things as well!! It's a great way to spend a day.

The best self care for me is spending time in nature which I knew I would find here. I made a day pass reservation and arrived early to avoid the crowd of first day hikers. I love that it’s only a few minutes from me.

My dad volunteered to help cut the trails back before it opened and I go here a few times a year. Plenty of hiking to be had. However much of it is rocks and dirt so wear real hiking shoes not sneakers or you will regret it.

Summer and even spring the heat can get you so take what you think you need for water and add an extra 1/3.

Once you get to the spots you want it gets more exciting.

Cell coverage is spotty at best so plan accordingly.

Please take out whatever you bring in and preserve this natural area.

I love going here, the park is so beautiful and relaxing in the morning. I try to make it once a week to take a walk. Be sure to bring water, but definitely enjoy the walk and the sights. It's certainly a beautiful location.

A very nice hiking, biking, and general outdoor fun area. The Dino tracks are super cool, especially from the overlook trail. The cost is nominal but highly recommend a Texas State Park Pass to avoid paying for each access per person. Make sure to reserve an entry spot and encourage promoting it out for your dashboard as it saved us waiting in line. (They always seems to be a line) We will definitely go back to try other hiking trails.

Oh boy it was not a good idea to go for a hike today with a 6 and 9 year old 🤣 but we ended up having a great time and they made the almost 5 miles round trip hike... Good trails for hiking or mountain biking but definitely not regular bikes, we had to ditch ours and hike all the way up to the dino tracks!!! We'll definitely come back better prepared and with extra, extra water!!!!

This place is nice for camping. We went for hiking. The day we visited was not crowded. I looked at the ticket’s online. It was $6 per person. I saw plenty of available space so I did not book online. Got the tickets from the park. There are trees but take a cap or umbrella if you’re doing hike in the sun. We went to see two overlooks and it was around 3.5 miles round trip. Take plenty of water with you. Overall the experience was good!

Very nice park. If you plan to hike the back country, bring plenty of water. Dogs are allowed in the front area but not the back country.
Lots of beauty. The dinosaur tracks are cool to see. The Overlook trail is worth a hike after seeing the dinosaur tracks.

Made reservations online to come out on a Saturday morning. If you make reservations online, actually print out the reservation as they require it to bypass the line. Several people tried to show their reservation email and PDF, but they stated it had to be printed out to skip the line.

If you are going to the Front Country or want to park in Lot C, there's no signage for Lot C from the main road. At the first Stop sign after entering, you'll see signs for Lot A & B to the left, but no signs for Lot C. Turn right towards the campgrounds, then you'll eventually see a few signs for Lot C.

Parking was about 3/4 full around 11a on Saturday. Restrooms were located in the parking lot. Trail signs and markers were clearly visible at the start and throughout the trails. Trails were well-kept and clean. The Savannah Loop was a nice, easy 2 mile hike that lasted about 45 minutes at a casual pace.

Will come back to try some of the Back Country trails and see more of the highlights. Pets are allowed in the Front Country, but not the Back Country.

A new year means new adventures!!! Government Canyon Natural Area! It’s pretty, beautiful and great 30 minute drive. Views are great, I recommend the overlook. Highly recommend to make reservations, online, the park fills up quickly. Also, bring good hiking shoes and plenty of water. Be prepared. I took the Joe Johnson trail to see the dinosaur tracks. (Note: read the trail requirements, before you go. Some trails don’t allow dogs or bikes). Cost is $6 per person, 12 and under is free, if you have a TX Park Pass, it’s free! Of course, I’ll be back for a part II trip!
