Elsmere BBQ & Wood Grill

I hosted a baby shower in the Stevens Ave space. Everything was fantastic. Planning was really easy. There was plenty of space and seating. Food and service were incredible as always. I recommend looking into this space for your next event. Kiersten and Adam were so accommodating and helpful. Thank you for making it easy and special.

Good food and friendly service. I went with the meat trio which was tasty. Not going to win prizes for brisket but good enough for a casual bite!

Might add that the seats are a tad narrow with the metal handrails for anyone who enjoys bbq! Maybe a little more wriggle room next time 😉

This has been a easy dinner staple for us for years. When we visit my parents in South Portland, we always come here - kids can use the old school video game, they offer kids coloring sheets and crayons, they have great local beers, delicious bbq, and always yummy specials. There’s something for everyone. Easy and delicious.

Got the THE ELSMERE TORNADO SANDWICH: Chopped brisket, pulled pork, sausage, and Texas Red BBQ on a toasted pretzel roll topped with cole slaw $18 was amazing, pretzel bun was not heavy or dense but still pretzel flavor so yummy, pickled red onion, so pretty and delicious I forgot to take a picture I ate it so fast!

Loved it! Amazing staff very mindful of what you need and if you are enjoying your food. I over hear them ask if a guy wasn't enjoying his beer and offers to get him something else he might enjoy more. The staff is very dedicated and they match the food quality very well. I will miss it when I go back to Utah. Very good can't say it enough.

Great spot on the way from downtown to the iconic Portland Head Lighthouse! Enjoyed a beer on the patio with some amazing ribs. Wife defined it as devine. Was a great first meal in Maine. Glad the pup could join us on the patio. Drinks were good too! Great atmosphere as well, love the garage feel.

Awesome service, great drinks and the best part such great food ! Not to mention more food for your penny! Such friendly staff and very cool vintage bar as well as open seating . If your in the area definitely stop here for a quick bite to eat or watch a game !

The barbecue is excellent and the portions are quite large. For lunch 3 of us split the 3 meat platter and it was quite filling. We did add a bowl of chili and an extra side but the combination of everything made for quite a filling meal for everyone.

For desert the gluten free brownies were really wonderful I would highly recommend if you are gluten free to give them a try and even if you're not then they have a richness and moistness that you don't often find in gluten free foods.

We were there for lunch on a Sunday and it wasn't overly crowded but our waitress indicated that it other times we might have a wait. Parking is available behind the location but it is quite muddy said don't bring your best shoes.

One damn fine restaurant. No corners cut.. food is outstanding (best brisket I've ever had).. servers are psyched, enthusiastic, and love the product. Atmosphere and prices are great. Proud to bring clients in. The real thing.

Thank you place is fantastic!!!! The staff is so friendly and the food is to die for! I have a food allergy and they were so receptive and welcoming and worked with me through all the restrictions. We sat in front of the wood grill and it was beautiful!!! The kitchen crew is just wonderful from the main course to the dessert!!! Best way to spend my birthday!!! 😍😍😍

One of my all-time favorite restaurants! Great cocktails, great food, and great desserts. Love the portobello sandwich especially, but I've never had anything that I didn't enjoy!

This place is outstanding! Wood-fired Oysters with bourbon lemon butter to start with followed by brisket burrito and collard greens -YUM! If you’re hungry for local and not looking for more seafood, get in here for excellent food and service!

Delicious. We got pulled pork sandwich and the brisket bomb. Side salad was also so delicious, great mix of greens and just enough dressing. Service was great. I love the decor inside as well.

Wow what a unique BBQ! The Meats were smoked to perfection and were tender and juicy. I suggest trying one of the combo meals. You get to try out up to 5 meats at a time with two sides how can you lose! The staff is so helpful and friendly! I came here all the way from Brooklyn NY and I was quite impressed. I would come back again!

Delicious, bought the three meat option and was not disappointed. Cornbread was good but slightly dry. Overall 5stars

My fiancée and I were in Portland for the day running some errands and shopping. We decided to go out for an early dinner with a friend who lives local, and per his recommendation, we met at Elsmere. It's a lovely little place, and if the weather were a little cooler, we'd have sat outside at their patio. Inside and out, the place offers sufficient seating while still having plenty of space; a must if you want to feel comfortable eating out, especially during this pandemic. They have a nice rustic atmosphere with a large bar, and an open kitchen, which is enjoyable to watch the crew work, as well as fills the dining area with phenomenal smells! Their beer and cocktail selections were nice; we ordered Shiner Bock's and a hibiscus vodka. My friend and I each ordered one of their two specials, and my fiancée had their rib platter. Everything was cooked to perfection. Tender, juicy, full of vibrant flavors, with a great selection of sides. I'm often disappointed with BBQ places in New England after living in GA for awhile, but Elsmere on Cottage Rd is the exception, and we will definitely be back when we visit South Portland.

Really huge portions and delicious food. Brisket was melt in your mouth tender and the chicken was done perfectly. Salad was enormous and the cornbread was tasty.

Hailing from New England, I know that I'm certainly no expert when it comes to BBQ. Having said that, this restaurant serves up some damn fine cuisine. In addition, it's small, but quite cozy, and the dishes are inexpensive for their quality.

I had the brisket and pulled pork, which were both very flavorful. If you want to use some sauce, I recommend the Texas Red. Their ribs and flatbread pizzas are great choices too.

I'd definitely recommend this place for dinner if you're in the area, or even if you just live nearby.

Elsmere's is a place my partner and I seek out regularly for our date night or when we just crave some really good BBQ. I have never once been disappointed by a meal. I highly recommend the pulled pork sandwich on a pretzel bun!
