The Movement is absolutely a hidden gem. A year ago I started working out here in order to get stronger, lose weight and improve the health of my low back after surgery. My expectations were beyond met. I have lost weight and am stronger than I’ve ever been in my life. The shape of my body has changed and I feel strong and powerful not just in the gym but in my daily life. The way I move about and do everyday activities has changed because I can actually feel my muscles all the time! I don’t get bored with the gym routine because it changes often. As someone who doesn’t love to workout and wasn’t confident with heavy lifting, I love having help nearby at all times. After a scary back injury, I can finally trust what my body is capable of thanks to The Movement. Every trainer is kind and welcoming, ready to offer tips and advice. There is no judgement or pressure, and I’m never expected to do something that hurts. Finally, hard work and heavy lifting that FEELS GOOD! What?!? No matter who you are, this gym has something very special to offer!

My experience with The Movement has been nothing short of incredible!
Very solid community of people working hard to make themselves and people around them better. Every workout is extensively planned by the trainers and no two sessions are the same to keep things interesting. The trainers are very easy to approach and know what they are doing/talking about. The best part is that they make you set goals for yourself and help you get closer to them in every way possible.
If I remember correctly, the first session is free, so give it a shot and I bet you won't regret it!

PS: The Movement recently started a Run Club which I am very excited about!!

When I went to my first session at the Movement about 20 months ago, I was a bit intimidated. As someone who has never been into sports or working out or considered myself remotely athletic, the descriptions on the board for that day's workout seemed like it was written in Klingon. Fast forward to the present, I can easily tell you (and show you!) the difference between a trap bar, Jefferson, and sumo deadlift. I've never stuck with a gym for more than a few months so the fact that I'm still here and going regularly after 20 months is in itself a testament to the supportive and informed approach that all the coaches here take to strength training.

The Movement welcomes every body, everyone, to get strong according to where you are right now. It is fun, low key and motivating. It’s a great place for people who don’t like the traditional gym setting. I have been there for more than 5 years and I’ve gotten stronger without injury, with support and encouragement.

I can't say enough good things about this place. More than anything it's a wonderful and positive community of people--both the staff and other members. It really feels like you're a part of something being there and I know they are very intentional about making the place that kind of environment. I always felt even on my worst days the staff and fellow members would say or do something to make me feel more positive about where I was at fitness-wise and just feel positive about my experience. It helped me to find joy and fun in my own fitness goals, which is how it should be. The individual attention is wonderful and you're absolutely met where you're at and made to feel okay about that while still being ambitious about your goals. It's a warm, welcoming, affirming, and justice-oriented community of people. I can't recommend the place enough.

Been going here off and on for about a year. The owner, David, is approachable and friendly. The rest of the staff are also awesome. I'd recommend this gym to anyone looking for a group atmosphere and wanting to get in serious shape. I left for a few months and realized with going here three times a week VS a regular gym I was in better shape than I ever was.

5/5

After 5 years, I can definitely say this place keeps me coming back. The warm welcoming environment has helped me become consistent and meet my training goals. The practical efficient programming has given me better results than I have experienced at other gyms and with less of the agony. I still hit new PRs after all of these years too. I couldn’t be happier.

Amazing functional strength and barbell training gym. I've done Crossfit and powerlifting. They've got me stronger than I've been in a long time and healthier than I've been in my adult life. Great coaching, incredible programming, and the biofeedback basics allows for regular variation in core lifts to reduce injury while still allowing continued progress with major muscle groups.

I've never been a gym type of guy, but a friend recommended this place to me after I had some nagging sports injuries. Great knowledgeable trainers, small groups that are cool and inclusive, one-on-one feedback. It's a really great gym.

I trained here for three years and really only left because after that long I had deepened my understanding of my own fitness requirements and necessary path forward to write my own programming around my extensive (previously sustained) injury rap sheet. Rather than fear mongering about limitations and liabilities, this place has a "we'll find what you can do and work from there" attitude. Broken or injured in some way or another? That's cool, not only do they have a highly qualified DPT that works there, they'll also find ways to make you strong if you're healing from something more acute. (I broke my collarbone a month after joining and was greeted with "okay, we'll have you do belted squats") Intimidated by a regular gym setting? They'll find ways to make you feel included into theirs. Beginner? They'll show you all the moves and suggest how to start.

I consistently recommend this place to friends and wish I had joined earlier in my life.

The best gym in the city - no contest! The community and the instruction are top-notch. If you're looking for a gym without the judgement, this is your spot. I've never been more comfortable around complete strangers in my life!

Movement Minneapolis is literally a life changing gym and community. From the care and attention the trainers give to each member, to the guided workouts and custom fitness assessments the staff conducts, it's been a core part of my life and community for the last few years and has helped me lose over 80 lbs and develop a brand new life.

The movement is the most amazing gym in minneapolis/st.paul if not the whole world. I started the gym at age 21 and went all through my first pregnancy and the trainers, the program, everything was perfect for every stage of life. If you want to get stronger physically, mentally, and emotionally GO HERE! They have made something truly special here.

I had a great workout and will be back for more. This place has a very friendly vibe. Just as advertised you "start where you are". Jen Sinkler was very helpful, encouraging and fun to work with. Low tech equipment, high tech strategy and knowledge...no posing.
