Meritage

Way overdue review but I went here almost two years ago for my birthday, and I am giving a 5 mostly because of the efforts that the restaurant have really put into shaping my experience. If it was just because of the food itself I would resort to a 4 instead, but the details and attention all make up for the lack of economical advantage here.

I was given a birthday card which was already a nice gesture. The details they put into the food was just astonishing, such as the bit of the sauce they placed next to the foie gras, the dots that were around the chocolate dessert, and more. The food definitely tasted good, ranging from the savory raviolo to the duck breast that had a very good combination of sweet and savory, and the risotto that absorbed the essence of crab and shrimp. They all tasted very good, albeit all very expensive.

Nowadays, their menus have changed, so none of those items are available anymore, but I do still see a dish called Seared Foie Gras for $29, and a Duck à L'Orange for $46, and so on. I will say that it will take one more than one dish to be full, so I would advise those who try this place to go on a special occasion, like a date, as it is most definitely not an everyday spot.

Delicious Rabbit Spatzle and really good Mussles that came with ridiculous amount of fries. Crepes were tasty but we both liked their chocolate dessert better. Dinner for two (entree, dessert and a glass of wine each) came down to $200 with tip.

Highly recommend-celebrated our 4 year anniversary here for the first time and it was a fabulous choice!! The combination of flavors they use in all of their dishes makes this place exceptional. In addition to the food, the orange crepe dessert was 💯.

Fantastic. A very stylish, classy restaurant. Great for date night with the Mrs, impressing your future in-laws or just the first date. It was nice to see young, middle-aged and seniors there with and without family. It looks like they have a few rooms for small parties.

The wait staff was attentive and the food was scrumptious. I particularly enjoyed the French onion soup which I haven't had in a while. My wife was impressed with the salmon. There were no fails on any of the other dishes. The drinks were superb.

Meritage is simply one of our top 3 favourite restaurants and/or Bars in the world. Having been fortunate enough to eat and drink at many lovely places in many countries, we just always compare them to Meritage in St Paul. Food is exquisite and the cocktails are spectacular. Thank you John, Alex and Justin for all of your cocktail advice. (our other favourite places would be the American Bar at the Savoy in London and The Buddha bar in Paris). Meritage holds such wonderful memories for us. My wife proposed to me there, we have taken our children, we ate there the night my wife went to hospital to have our baby and we drank Champagne with everyone else at the bar to celebrate. We have eaten there with many groups of friends and made friends there, we've eaten in the bar, in the dining room and outside. It's all wonderful. Meritage is one of those places that does everything right.

Went there on Sunday night it was busy like a Saturday. Service was fantastic! Food and cocktails were delicious. I would highly recommend.

We absolutely adore this place. Great service (just tell them if you're looking for a more intimate experience because people are at your table often). Always get the oysters! We got the beef tartare with home made chips and it was so good. In the winter sometimes they have a lobster bisque and it's a MUST!

If you are looking for a place to go all out to celebrate, for a special date night, or simply just because, Meritage is the way to go. The service was impeccable - the servers were very attentive to our needs & even switching out the ice in our seafood platter - and the food is simply beyond. It was an excellent experience from beginning to end.

Hannah was our server and she could not be more delightful. We eat here every month or two and love sitting in the Oyster Bar. The staff is outstanding, the drinks are mesmerizing and the food is out of this world. The old style drinks set the mood perfectly for this French cuisine.

We had a lovely experience dining here for the first time. Alex, our server, was knowledgeable, friendly and had great recommendations. I had the best oysters I’ve ever had, the drinks were phenomenal, and the teeny tiny tuna tartare taco amuse-bouche was delectable. It was decorated beautifully for the holidays and the ambiance was charming. We look forward to going back soon and sharing the experience with friends.

Just an amazing experience at meritage. Service was out of this world, and the food quality, preparation, and presentation was exceptional. A special thanks to Nina for the beautiful birthday surprise for sister Jane! The best dessert I've ever had.

We had the tasting menu tonight. Wow. Every course was fabulous, we had the wine pairing which added to the wow factor. Hannah was a professional, but personable server. She made a great meal a great experience. Thanks to everyone at Meritage tonight for making our anniversary fun.

Went here for our anniversary. They had a congratulations card waiting for us. The food was amazing as was the service.

Had an exquisite experience here at Meritage. So many good options and variety in the menu and I’ll definitely go back to try their platters. I love the ambiance and the service too. Not too long of a wait and the staff asures us that we aren’t forgotten by giving us updates abt our table while we’re waiting at the bar. The cocktails are amazing! We tried 6 and everytime the drink arrives it just keeps getting better. It’s a very date night vibe kind of place but not awkward for non-date patrons as well.

Excellent atmosphere! Food is easily the best in St. Paul or Minneapolis. As a long time resident you can't find better pork chop than here in the twin cities area.

The pork chop was perfectly cooked. The fat was properly done as it had a crispness to it that was almost like bacon. And the sauce it was served with had a sweetness to it that perfectly paired with with the chop.

The staff is also fantastic. If youre not familiar with a more french inspired menu they know exactly what you're gonna want.

Honestly can't recommend this restaurant enough.

Went here for 5-year wedding anniversary. Loved the 5-course tasting menu. Each course was delicious and much different than the last. Servers were professional but also laid back. 2 notes:

1. We asked specifically, and there was NOT an upcharge for credit cards (this was April 2023).

2. If you need to be out by a certain time, tell the server up front. We were in no hurry, so the time between courses added to the experience, but dinner took over 2 hours in total.

Amazing service and food! I cannot stress how good the atmosphere was here, with brilliant decor, food, staff and sophistication. This is a must for anyone looking to book a special date night. It is pricey, but completely worth it. The dishes are all seasonal, which means that the ingredjants are all what is in season. Its amazing.

We went here for my brother's 30th birthday and we had a great time! The food and drinks were delicious, particularly the French fries, which were the easily the best I've ever had in my entire life!

Great people and atmosphere. Very genuine employees and the owner is very personable. Good place to give your business!

This was one of the best dinners I've ever eaten. The dining room was warm and lovely. The service from all the staff was excellent. The pacing of my meal was perfect. The portions were the right size, not too big.I ordered some West Coast oysters that were fresh. They had a good selection of East and West Coast choices for oysters. The Duck schmear was smooth and delicious. The teeny tiny tuna tartare taco was tasty. A surprise was the pumpkin raviolis which were outstanding in flavor. I can't identify everything in that dish but it all worked. The cassoulet was the perfect temperature and the duck leg skin was crispy. Tried the Espresso pot of creme which was a perfect little sweet ending to my meal. It was everything together that made this meal so special. Hats off to the chef! Thank you for a truly lovely experience.
