Dark Horse Bar & Eatery

Only stopped in for a drink to check it out. Can't remember the name of the drink but it was delicious! A little too much chili oil which made the drink hard to finish at the end but overall tasty and well thought out. Unexpectedly had a rueban and it was delicious! Fries are unique and hit a spot between potato chips and fries, tasty!

For an appetizer/snack, the marinated Brussels sprouts, sautéed with jalepeno peppers, are amazing. I never thought I'd say that about Brussels sprouts, but these particular Brussels sprouts are to die for. It would be nice if they also had the choice to swap in a vegan burger with the regular burgers, but I guess this isn't really a vegan place, seeing as that they have meat raffles. (The Bulldog bar and restaurant, one block away, has more vegan and vegetarian choices.) And I guess it's good they don't have more vegan options, because then I would spend more money. The very best thing about the Dark House is the outdoor seating for summer nights. They have lights strung up, and an outdoor bar, and it's super cool. They also have BINGO! This is a great place to meet friends, watch a game, and just hang out for the evening.

I loved this bar! It has such a great energy the second you walk through the door. I’m beyond impressed with the service. The owner delivered my pastrami sandwich and told me about the dry aging process and I loved seeing his passion in his establishment. My server was super attentive, my sandwich was delicious. My experience was unforgettable. I highly recommend!!

100% recommend! We heard a live acoustic musician on a Tuesday evening. Great service! Musician was very talented ("Smokin' Joe). My martini was spot on, which isn't easy because I'm picky. You'll be happy you came.

Great menu, convenient parking lot across the street, good prices. Korean BBQ Brussels app and the day's special Rueben Pizza were both hits! Will go back!

With a nice, welcoming atmosphere, this has become my go-to place for a few drinks & a bite. It has a modern, renovated old-space feel that's far from bland but not fancy: "come as you" are in your flannel & jeans. The patio with big, warm fire pits is welcoming & lovely. We like everything from the servers to music to the overall set up & decor. They have some tasty food offerings, but you'll need to go earlier in the evening to order off the full menu. If you're there late, get ***the fries*** or the Adam & Eve pizza. (You're welcome.) Vegetarians won't feel left out, as the menu has a couple good meatless options (& you can ask them to hold the meat in some cases too). Be sure to try a basil spank off the drink menu! Lots of whiskeys & bourbons, if that's your thing.

Everything we ordered was delicious, I had the pastrami with schmear and wow!!!! One of my kids had the cheese pizza, which was also very good. My wife had the dill pickle wings 🤤. Whiskey list was huge, and beer selection had plenty to choose from. We will definitely be back, parking can be a pain....

An upscale bar and grill with a cozy atmosphere, tasty food, an impressive whiskey selection, and excellent service.
I've been here twice and both times were exceptional. Everyone in my party agreed that the food is delicious. The chef even came to my table to discuss gluten free options with me. The pulled pork tacos are flavorful with a bit of heat, but not overpowering.
We saw live music by local artists so were there for several hours and had a great time. It is a comfortable and cool space, with good views of the stage. The sound was perfectly mixed and not too loud. We could hear the music AND still carry a conversation with our friends without screaming at each other, which is appreciated.

Food cooked from scratch. Large plates with fresh ingredients and smoked meats. Try the pulled pork, pastrami Reubens or turkey, bacon and cranberry sandwich. Amazing flavors. Pleasantly surprised by the menu. Highlight of trip to St. Paul.

The outdoor patio is awesome! Good selection of beers and foods! Parking is tricky during busy hours but if you're lucky you could get some street parking within a couple of blocks.

Had a great late lunch over the weekend. Drive through burger was great and the fries were interesting and awesome. Cool drinks were on the menu and we played a game of bingo!

Great food, love the patio seating and well within my budget. I had the Prime Rib - Saturday only fare and it was absolutely fantastic - came with grilled asparagus and new potatoes (which were underdone if the dark horse reads this). Also had were wedge salads (one of the best I’ve ever had), pulled pork pizza and the chicken sandwich.

Food was phenomenal, and it was the later menu, so limited. Staff were super friendly. We plan on coming back to try the full menu(:

I was completely impressed by every aspect of the food. I ordered the food for pick up. It was promptly ready when they said it would be. The smells that filled my vehicle were exciting and titillating. My lady and I got the food upstairs and immediately opened the Mac & Cheese! A lovely melted cheese and crispy onion top crust awaiting my spoon to plunge into a soft, warm noodle and cheese whiz magma of flavor.

We then opened the next box giddy like kids on Christmas except to eat the delicious presents made for us by DARK HORSE! The wings! Bourbon BBQ Wings and Dry Rub Ranch! Crispy and delicious!

The Cornbread was outstanding and brisket fantastic!

That Mac and cheese was SO GOOD! 😀 Actually, the cheese sauce would taste amazing smothering those big ol' fries and you can bet I scooped up the leftover sauce and did just that. The burger was also delish - juicy and a great combo of flavors. We'd definitely go back!

TOP TIER! Out of a 5 day trip I came here 3 times, that’s how great it is! You have to try The Burger. Make it a double? Why not?! The one dessert on the menu, Skillet Brownie, is sensational. Grade A salted caramel drizzle. Came and had the late night menu wings and pizza and they were delicious too! They’ve got a limited cocktail menu but their specialty is whiskey so I had a bit of everything and never left unsatisfied. The service is great too! Definitely a must when in the St. Paul area!

Loved our visit to Dark Horse! We went at lunchtime for an anniversary meal. Our server was kind and attentive, and had great insights into the menu. We got a burger with a gluten free bun and a gluten free pizza. Both tasted amazing, both in flavor and for being gluten free! The bacon on the burger was so thick and awesome, and you could drown in the cheese they pile on the pizza. Was surprised iced tea didn’t come with free refills like the soda (it’s buy one get one, so two glasses before you pay for it again), but didn’t detract from our trip. Thanks for a lovely time!

Fun little spot with lots of memorabilia from the 90s in minneapolis - kind of strange its in st paul but I guess I'm glad that even minneapolis memorabilia exists just across the river

Leah was on the case with water and menus when we sat. Our server Melissa was attentive, fun and professional. I had the bleu smash burger thing. Very tasty. I've not seen their cut of fries before, a kind of shaving technique, really flavorful. The entertainment was the best part. Alex Gelking performed a cool mix of songs and styles. He played 'Fearless' for god's sake. Good evening all around. 5 stars.
