Delicious meal! Every bite was so very tasty! We had the scallop crudo, grilled octopus, and burrata to start. Had the seafood squid ink pasta and risotto as our mains. We were hoping to try their infamous sea urchin pasta but was told it was seasonal and not year round. Food was well balanced and each bite felt well curated! The risotto was creamy but not heavy- the peas and asparagus and a hint of citrus help balance it out to make it a really enjoyable dish! The pasta was perfectly Al dents with great bounce and chew and packed with flavor! We had the almond flan with passion fruit saffron sauce- this too was well balanced and scrumptious to the last morsel! The staff are super attentive and friendly! Thank you for a great meal and even greater experience!

This is a great restaurant, has been around forever, and with very unique food. I had the black pasta and Caesar salad which were both great. I would not listen to any of the negative comments, some people are overly critical and just like to gripe and don't care about doing damage. It has been around forever for a reason cause it's great restaurant and also very friendly.

Great pasta place love the parmesan dishes. Good service but it can get crowded. Tip: plan your visit as the line forms by the bar and it can take some time to get seated. The pasta dishes are consistently good as are the specials. There is limited wine selection but the offerings are generally reasonably priced and good.

This is my go to spot for a nice dinner after an hour or two of karaoke at the karaoke lounge that is just a couple of doors down. The seating is kind of tight but it's comfortable. The food is outstanding, although I have to admit I've only gotten one item - it's so good that I've ordered it every time. I've only had samples of other dishes off of my friends' plates :-) It's one of those places where I always bring guests when they visit the city... I just love the pasta in the cheese wheel yum yum yummmm :-o

I admit it. I love their “Parmesan cheese wheel” in which they dunk your pasta in a hallowed cheese wheel pulling in the flavor. This is a neighborhood pasta place that is very good with their pasta at a reasonable price (for NYC). It is often crowded so if you come during prime time prepare to wait.

I LOOOOOOOVED the parmeggiano plage!! Did not expect it to be submerged in a big parmeggiano wheel, but that made it extra special. The wine and beers were really good. The service was also really great! Different servers kept an eye on us and made sure we didn't wait too long before they were able to help us. The only disappointment was the black spaghetti since it wasn't as creamy or flavourful, but I will come back for the parmeggiano dish.

Italian Japanese fusion that works. Pasta is cooked perfectly al dente and I loved flavors. The risotto is great and the bits of yuzu in it add an incredible burst of freshness. It could be a little less liquidy imo but it doesn't really detract that much.

The cocktails and desserts are also excellent. I thought the almond flan was especially delicious. It reminded me a lot of the asian dessert, almond tofu, which I loved.

With excellent, friendly service and a cute outdoor seating area, this is definitely a place to check out.

Fabulous meal in a wonderful clean and welcoming environment. Wait staff was pleasant and very helpful. Appetizers were phenomenal. Had the smoked sliced duck breast salad. WOW. Beautiful compliment of flavors. We also had a tuna appetizer that was to die for. It came with a mini potato salad that had wasabe in it. I had the sea urchin pasta. It tasted very good but the sea urchin didn't add much. My companion had the squid ink seafood pasta. It was very well done and incredible. Will return again.

Japanese style homemade pasta - and one of the best pastas we have ever had! This place is a must to try and everything was absolutely delicious! The table side pasta (with prosciutto) was prepared in a giant cheese “wheel/Brick” and was incredible. Highly reccomend.

The one and only pasta eatery run by Japanese in NYC. They’ve been making simple yet delicious pasta dishes for over a decade. I believe the pasta dish with uni started here before the trend blew up. Def one of the most underrated restaurants in NYC.

Waited for the hype to die down before visiting this place and it did not disappoint. A bit confusing when you first walk in as you’re at the bar and see the kitchen immediately. However I found my hosts smiling face and she led me to my table for the 6:30 reservation. Wait staff was knowledgeable and friendly I declined an appetizer, however once I saw the asparagus on the next table he ensured I got an order soon after I asked for it after the fact. (Didn’t go unnoticed) Food was divine pasta cooked to perfection and cheesy to my hearts content. Will definitely be back

Italian and Japanese fusion dishes. Famous for their pasta mixed in the cheese wheel at the table. Moderately priced for the location. Pasta is available in appetizer size if you want to try more than one type at the time. Their free slice of bread with blue cheese spread is amazing!!! Always packed during dinner time so advanced reservation is highly recommended if you don’t want to wait for at least 30 minutes. Very uplifting vibe with semi open kitchen and bar

I came here on a Saturday night with my mom. We didn't have a reservation and decided to go right when the restaurant opened at 6:00 PM. People were already waiting outside and we got lucky enough to get a table, but knew we had to be done before the next 7:15 pm reservation.

We sat down at one of the small tables along the wall and was greeted by a friendly waiter, who in fact, was the waiter for the whole restaurant! To start, we were given a crostini with the most HEAVENLY spread made of mascarpone, parmesan, and butter. It was so good that we asked for seconds (thank you!). For appetizers, we ordered the braised octopus dish and the black mussels in a white wine sauce dish. Both were delicious and had the perfect amount for two people. For our entree, we shared two pastas which they kindly split for us! One was their seasonal pasta with shaved brussel sprouts, broccoli rabe, and clams, in a garlic and oil sauce. The second pasta was their pappardelle alla bolognese. Both pastas were cooked to perfection: al dente. We were too full for dessert but will definitely try it next time, as well as make a reservation.

Excellent food and while the dishes could be a little pricey, they definitely are high quality. Everything is portioned pretty nicely (so you won't be stuck with way too much food) and the service is top-notch.

If I lived near Basta Pasta Id be on a pasta only diet. The spaghetti con uova with flying fish roe is so unique and unforgettable. The classic fusilli con prosciutto that is mixed in a huge parmesan cheese bowl ? Top of the line. But the tiramisu ? Simply cannot be beat. Layer by layer you go on a journey of flavor. Needless to say, I will be back.

I’ve been coming here for years and I’ll keep coming back. I know the cheese wheel pasta can come off as “gimmicky” but this is no gimmick. It’s pure heart, soul, and cheese haha! You’ll be happy ordering anything off of this menu. Ambiance is fantastic. 10/10!

I went there for lunch and found its prix fixe menu exceptional. All three courses are generously portioned and the pasta carries a beautiful intermingling of eclectic flavors and ingredients.

I ate their chicken ragu pasta. First it is very unique as I have never seem a similar meal before. Secondly it was so delicious and had lots of flavor. The service was also very good and they were very attentive. Their desserts were also very good and different than I have seen.

One of my absolute fave restaurants! Must have gone here about six times already. The dishes are unique, service is amazing, and they even make sure to regularly change the art pieces on the walls (keep an eye out for them!)
