I am beginning to approach the end of my time as a student at SDSMT, and I must say that I was thoroughly impressed with the applied education that they offer. The campus may be a bit old and kinda ugly, but it’s half the charm of the school. If I had to describe the school in one word “Utilitarian”

The school is dedicated to providing its students with a practical and hands-on learning experience. The professors are well-versed (almost excessively so in a lot of cases) in their respective fields and are always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that their students are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in their careers, but only if the students ask. While there are plenty of resources available to students, the school deeply rewards the students who are willing to ask for help. Failure to do so is a failure to succeed at this school.

One of the highlights of my time at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology was the numerous opportunities provided for students to engage in real-world projects. The school has a number of partnerships with industry leaders, which allows students to work on projects that are not only academically challenging but also have practical applications. Almost every student I know has worked on multiple projects, all of which are sponsored, inspired by, or otherwise STEM-ing from personal experiences and outside groups.

Moreover, the school has state-of-the-art facilities that are equipped with the latest technology, providing students with the resources they need to excel in their studies. If they don’t have something, the process to get resources or technology is surprisingly simple. Students often just need to ask and find a teacher willing to work with them, and if they have the determination the school will help them pursue their passion. The campus is also located in a beautiful setting, with wonderful outdoor opportunities and recreation for the ambitious student (when they can get away from classwork).

Overall, I would highly recommend the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology to anyone looking for a high-quality applied education. The school's commitment to providing its students with a practical and hands-on learning experience is truly unparalleled.

This museum is awesome! It takes up the 3rd floor of an academic building but is well-labeled with visitor parking out front. The exhibits are very well labeled and organized, with one area containing rocks/minerals and the other area containing fossils. I appreciated the old-school feel of the museum, with the displays being more informative than flashy. They have a great variety of fossils, with some common and some rare (but all exciting). The best part, the museum is free (but appreciates donations). Well worth the stop, looking forward to visiting again someday!

My son and I enjoyed his official NCAA Football visit last month at SDSMT.

The Coaching Staff and Professors seem to really be genuine and care about both the student and the athlete. Impressed that the professors spent time with my son showing him around vs. just a student tour. There is a real emphasis on helping the student (& athlete) with their Cap and Gown program. Didn't take long to recognize the value in their top ranking in engineering. Having looked all over the county the past year it was evident that this is the place to get your diploma without the debt! Unless your into spending $80k-$160k MORE for equivalent degree!!!

Beautiful area also as we were pleasantly surprised by the community and its beauty as we live in Seattle and were concerned. Rapid City suprizingly has a population of 70,000 and the people are very friendly and just want to visit with you.

Love the Football Coaching Staff as they got it going on and this program will be taken to new heights! Go Rockers!

Challenging and rewarding, the staff is very helpful, fantastic Veteran center/support, affordable/reasonably priced. The only off-putting thing about it is the location; it can get bitterly cold here but that has nothing to do with the school itself.

It took me 5 years and a degree change to graduate. The classes were ridiculously difficult. But I wouldn't change anything about it. It was the best 5 years of my life and I recieved a first class education. Professors were great and administration was excellent, especially the dean of students, Pat Mahon.

An amazing school with a high reputation and career opportunities for engineering and science. I enjoyed my visit here. Definitely a top contender for college versus Colorado School of Mines.

I dont go here, so idk. But my brother does, he likes it. Small campus was good for him and he's in a fraternity too (but for nerds) which is perfect for him.

Pretty neat, good college for sure, love the atmosphere, makes me feel more comfortable and less like I am in a hospital waiting room.
