Grumpy's Mexican Cafe

We ate at Grumpy's while visiting family in the area. First of all the service was outstanding which is rare for me to say.

Their portions are absolutely huge! We ordered 1 taco and as you can see it could have easily fed 2 of us for under 5.00 at the time. It was the size of the plate!We also ordered the chicken and waffles which comes with wonderful homemade spiral potato chips. It had a full belgan waffle, 4 chicken tenders and those chips. My two teen boys split that. We also ordered a few other breakfast items that I forgot to get pictures of but out of 6 of us, nobody cleared their plates.

This is our family's favorite breakfast spot and we easily understand why.

This is a great breakfast stop! Don't let the outside fool you. Inside are warm and friendly wait staff and amazing food. Hot, quick and served with a smile. Would definitely come back if we lived in the area!

Came in Tuesday morning before 11:00.
We both had the Country breakfast. I added a side pancake. Great value for the amount of food. Everything was really tasty. The pancake is the only item that I probably would not order again. The entire staff is friendly and fun. Looking forward to returning.

We had a great time. Ate in the loft, we had a big group. Friendly staff. Good food, worth the drive, ridiculously sized tacos! This place is a true hidden must see gem with the fam. One of a kind.

This meal was amazing! And the prices are so low. The service was so friendly and nice. The atmosphere was perfect. A very enjoyable meal at a very affordable price. And there’s no way you can finish the plate. we started out with onion rings that were stacked as high as a mountain. The chicken fried steak is so big that they had to bring your sides on another plate.

Do not be deceived by the looks of this little hole in the wall food establishment! I'm one for trying to find really good little breakfast spots, as it is my favorite meal of the day! I have found my new place while here in San Antonio! It is Grumpys! I ordered the country breakfast and when I say it's a spread! It's a spread! When you first walk in every one is very welcoming, you seat yourself and the service is fast! I will say the pancake was a little dense for me, but it had good flavor. I'm finicky when it comes to flapjacks though. The eggs were made just how I ordered. The bacon was delicious and crispy! Now the biscuits! I died! These homemade fluffy delights are divine! They taste exactly like my moms! She no longer cooks as she has become invalid, so I was definitely hit in the feels with the biscuits. They are so yummy with the sausage gravy! Not to mention the gallon drum of coffee I was served!(I LOVE big cups of coffee!) And Danielle my servr was stop notch If you're in the area I highly recommend Grumpys! And you will probably see me there because it is good!

First time here and I'll be the honest. The food was spectacular and the service was very comforting and welcoming. If you ever want to feel like you're at home or at your grandparents house this is definitely the place... ohh and the coffee didn't taste burnt ask for Mrs. Lupe she's a beautiful spirit.. I wish I would've taken a pic for yall unfortunately it was to good to stop and take a pic ..I did take a pic of the PEACH pie... I know you're thinking it's like a peach cobbler.. nahhh wayyyyy better

I had a great time, the waitress was so sweet and the food was delicious. We had the chicken fried steak and steak fingers.

Definately will be coming back, enjoyed the food. Waitress was very attentive and patient.

My husband and I have been coming here off and on for many years because they have a great service, reasonable prices, awesome quality of food with hefty servings! If you're looking for a laid back, rustic ambiance, and if you have an appetite, this is a place to go! Kecia & her staff will not disappoint!!!

The food was flavorful and filling. The service was simply amazing. Multiple people checked in on us and ensured we were taken care of. Our server, Whisper, was great and contributed to our great experience.

As someone who grew up in the Texas hill country, this place was a really wonderful experience for me. The nostalgic atmosphere and the kind staff really took me back and reminded me why Texas is the “friendly state”. The servers and the cooks did everything they could to make our dining experience wonderful and all with genuine kindness. I would definitely visit again and bring friends 🥰 Grumpy’s is definitely going in my list of places to go when in San Antonio. Thank you guys!

I recommend the steak and eggs, any breakfast taco, and the mimosas! They gave me not a glass….but a goblet 🤩

Chicken fried steak was delicious and huge! I didn't even get a chance to eat the other items like eggs, hash browns and Biscuits! I needed to finish the chicken fried steak because that doesn't taste great reheated. Everything else was put in a to go box!

Great food especially the Chicken Fried Steak and also the Chicken and Waffles with the homemade chips.

Oh my gracious! You HAVE to go check this place out. It was really delicious! The pictures should say everything I can't! Lots of options to chose from, heaping helpings of goodness & great tea and coffee!

I had the Ultimate Patty Melt with a few tweaks. Minus the grilled tomato. Added grilled jalapeños and bacon. Honestly, I was very disappointed. Disappointed that all these years I had never stopped in. Great food! Excellent Onion Rings! Laci was awesome! Okay, now I need a nap.

Server was so sweet. Like the vibe here. Wish I lived close enough to come more often.

Went for lunch specifically to try the chicken fried steak, and I was NOT disappointed. Not only was it delicious, but the portion was so large that I'll get to enjoy it again having brought half of it home! My wife enjoyed the Mexican plate, and my son devoured his patty melt. Our server was very friendly and attentive to our needs. Now I need to make it a point to go back for breakfast!
