They take the time to get back to people and help answer any questions very quickly. Very "nice"...great to be able to say that about any city department anywhere. Great job, Bangor Public Works! Thank you!

They had guys putting a "Yield to Pedestrians" light up on the corner of Broadway and School St. Meanwhile, the light at the intersection of Broadway and Falvey was out, and since people don't know how to freaking drive, I called to report it. He promptly sent me to a voicemail. Not good.

First let me say that the people working in public works are top notch. They are helpful and attentive. I give the staff 5 stars! That being said let's talk about garbage pick up in Bangor.
The city provides a container for waste pickup. They elimaniated recycling and we now have to put cardboard and other recycling into the same single container provided by the city. This increases the amount of wast into a smaller container than what we could get rid of before the change.
They have recently launched a campaign to stop people from overfilling the containers and if garbage is visible (ie. the lid is open) or if the lid is held open by garbage above the rim of the container they simply will not empty it. I experienced this recently when my lid was blown open by the wind and they did not take it. I fully admit that the garbage inside was above the rim of the container by approximately 1-2 inches when I closed it (after seeing they did not empty it). I have since purchased an additional container at a cost of $260 per year to prevent this from happening again.
Now, as I drive around Bangor, I see trash containers by the roadside overflowing with garbage in all areas of the city. It looks terrible and is not a good look for the city. It seems the policy of not emptying containers that are over the rim is more important than the appearance of Bangor. This is not a friendly policy for Bangor Businesses, thoes looking to move to Bangor, or the residents. Your policy is creating a situation where Bangor appears run down with trash everywhere and will, in the long run, have a negative impact on revenue and the reputation of the city.
I strongly encourage the city to seek a better solution to the problem.

Here is my overflowing can of garbage. Never been an issue before - I've called and there is nothing that can be done, they want me to load my car with trash and take it to the dump. I was told Casella would pick it up for 40$ and they said there is nothing they can do.

These idiots have no idea what to do during the winter. They go on and on about parking bans for snow removal, but don’t actually do anything about it. They would rather hit people’s cars on the side of the road than report them to BPD for removal. Aaron Huotari needs to step down.

A couple of times I've had my trash not picked up because my lid would not close it being one to two inches open today I saw my neighbors had it literally half a trash bag open and they took it. Now it's going to cost me $260 a year just to contain another trash can so my measly one inch to 2 inch open of trash will not get skipped.
