My birth experience was incredible. Due to the circumstances of the birth, I wasn't able to follow my original birth plan, but all the nurses/doctors who worked with me from the start of my induction to the delivery did a great job communicating with me every step of the way. They made sure I was informed on everything they were doing and got my consent. They all had excellent bedside manner too and kept me as comfortable as possible throughout my labor and delivery.

The birthing and postpartum rooms are very nice, my husband had a comfortable place to rest the entire time. The food provided by the hospital after delivery is not bad. The NICU nurses are doing a great job taking care of my son too.

Overall I'm more than pleased with the entire experience, especially considering how nervous I was going into it.

I give the hospital FIVE stars because they saved my unborn child, and not by anything they were doing, but because God said, “my child and her child will not die today.” I was the FIRST pregnant woman in their ICU and I almost died because of it. I had severe sepsis, ARDS, multi-organ failure, and entered renal failure the day I had a salvage c-section and I lived. I lived to tell the story of my near death experience and to any female who feels the VA won’t listen to them. This hospital nearly killed me and my baby, and the doctor responsible is STILL practicing as an OBGYN in MS because he couldn’t be sued and neither could this hospital when it happened. My daughter has neurological developmental disorders and learning disabilities because she was born at 31-weeks. I have neurocognitive disorders, neurocognitive communication deficits from brain damage. This hospital almost killed ME and my UNBORN child, and I can’t get any disability from the VA because they claim there isn’t any proof that any of this happened at this hospital. Tell that to my unemployability and my mental health because I am suffering. Don’t go here if you can go anywhere else!!!!!!!

I went to the ER for the first time in a long time on 1/12/24 and with the renovations and all the changes coming up, everyone from the front counter check in were so helpful, the vitals check in, the nurse and the two Dr.'s that took care of me were great listeners to my concerns about my injury, everyone took great care of me in the ER. When your injured it doesn't matter how long your there. Its the "Quality" of care you receive. I've always had great care from all the staff! I went to the pharmacy and even with a line they were all working hard to fill everyone's prescriptions. If it took all day/night it would be worth it, to be on the road to a full recovery! I have had super, great, wonderful care from every person every single time I've been to the hospital. I have 20+ years of health care at PNH/PNMC and I can't THANK YOU ALL ENOUGH! I'm still a patient and you all are still taking great care of me. Thank you so much each and everyone of you! Mrs. Miller

I had a good experience, not everyone does apparently here which is sad. This is one of the better hospitals in the country! It looks like Harry Potter inside the hallways and it’s very large but once you figure out where you’re going and are seen everyone is at least pleasant. Dr Kellogg in the surgery department is awesome, it’s unfortunate so many have a negative taste in their mouth after coming here because I had no problems whatsoever.

I had surgery about a week and a half ago, and I cannot praise the staff enough. From pre-op to post-op, my nurses, anesthesiologist, surgeons and surgical team were the absolute best. My anesthesiologist and his tech were the funniest individuals that make me feel incredibly comfortable getting my IV prepped. The surgical team did an absolute amazing job and make me feel prepared and confident before going into the OR. My post-op nurses were the most gentle, helpful, attentive and compassionate nurses I could have ever asked for. They were always there when I needed them, made sure I was taken care of, talked to me, and made me so comfortable during a difficult time. I would give my experience 10/10!

Long wait in ER is expected but that’s really anywhere. However I have received such good care here, nurses, doctors and staff were phenomenal at their job and never had me wait in a room for very long. They were quickly caring for my needs, and took all the right steps in making sure I was okay. They have given me instructions on where my follow up appointments are, and what I need to do. They cared so much about safety, privacy and most of all my health and well being. As a medical professional myself I was very impressed compared to any other hospitals I have been to. I have been receiving prompt phone calls to make appointments and all staff have been very sweet, kind, and most of all helpful in every aspect.

We have never had less than perfect care at this excellent facility. I wish I could give them more than 5 stars! My daughter (now 36) has cerebral palsy and was covered there for most of her childhood, from birth to 6 years old, then again from 12 through college graduation. She was sorry to age out and often talks about the exemplary care she received from the dedicated doctors, nurses and staff.

More recently, I have been dealing with breast cancer and could not have had a better experience at Breast Health, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Surgery, on the ward - in short, everyplace I went. I cannot speak highly enough about all their facilities and personnel. Even the food was tasty!

Dr Friski, Lauren Hughes and her assistant Briona were phenomenal! I have never had such good care at PN before. Made me feel comfortable and kept my anxiety at bay. Did everything they could to distract me from my procedure (that wasn’t even that bad… thanks anxiety) and were very caring. They definitely deserve all the shout outs they can get! Thank all of you.

I gave birth to my son almost a year ago there! I am so ashamed that it has taken me this long to tell about how my how awesome my experience was!!! This was my first delivery. Once I find the names of my providers I will be back to compliment them personally. This staff delivered my baby seamlessly, and saved my life after I hemorrhaged. Don’t let negative reviews deter you. They also have the best cranberry juice. They are great. All of them from the gestational care all the way to delivery!!!!!

5 stars for the labor and delivery doctors and nurses!!

(24-25 Aug)
I originally had a c section scheduled per women’s health OB so of course, I had already mentally prepared for a major surgery once I got to labor and delivery. Once I arrived, the L&D nurse looked more into my history and informed me I didn’t need a cesarean after all and could be induced. So, we went forth with the induction. They even allowed me to wait for my husband (he lives 3 hours away) to arrive before inducing me who was my only support system here so that meant a lot to me!

All the hundreds of questions I had out of nervousness and being my first birthing experience, they all answered without making me feel I was bothering them. I got an epidural and throughout my 20+ hour labor they all took care of me with such delicacy and urgency. They talked me through everything that was happening step by step which helped me feel at ease and ready for everything that was about to happen.

I specifically remember nurse Stephanie the day of my delivery (25 Aug) and she was so so helpful and sweet with everything. I wish I remembered each nurses, doctors, and anesthesiologist team names as well because they made my experience truly perfect!

While pregnant I also went to L&D twice to check on my baby just for my own sanity and they took care of me with urgency as well even though I didn’t have an appointment both times.

The post partum nurses however all made me feel bad for asking for any kind of help. Except for the actual doctors who were awesome.

I had to go to this hospital to get an emergency wisdom tooth extraction and I have never seen a more kind group of staff. Maybe I just got lucky, but I felt absolutely respected by everyone especially as a spouse. I wanted to give a special shout out to a nurse in the ED, I believe her last name was Williams (she likes to hum) she made me feel very comfortable and treated me like a daughter almost. Also the doctors in oral surgery are super nice, patient, and very kind. Hopefully I won’t have to come back, but I would choose here 100 times over any other local hospital.

I LOVE this place! And the entire cardiology staff! Waits are long because docs take the time needed with each patient, as they will with you. It's not the insurance-driven 15-minute patient mill that is so common in the civilian world of medicine. NMCP Doctors and staff are motivated by improving your health, not by money.

My primary care doctor is located at the navy hospital! I have received exceptional care from him. Not saying who he is for patient doctor confidentiality. He is in the internal med clinic. All the doctors I have seen in this clinic before him have been awesome. He is very thorough and cares about his patients. The ER is in my opinion awesome. Last visit I took my son in for chest pains, the wait was long but the docs and nurses and staff were apologetic and did everything as fast as they could. The only draw back is the pharmacy. But all you have to do is ask to get your meds at a branch clinic of your choice and have the same done for your labs

I never leave reviews but I felt like this was definitely necessary. I had honestly never heard many positive things about this hospital before. I am new to the Va beach area and this is where my OB told me I would delivering. However, This hospital gave me BEYOND exceptional care when I had my first baby in November. I wouldn’t have changed one thing. I would definitely deliver here again.

I just delivered my son at NMCP via c-section and I just want to brag on what a terrific team and amazing experience I had.

The OR team was so organized and communicated with me every step of the way. I was impressed with the nurses, surgeons and anesthesia team as they were constantly soothing me and made a personable effort to ease my anxiety. They truly made me feel like someone they cared about and not just another patient.
The PACU team was great and although the stay was short they were extremely attentive and made sure we were taken care of.
The mother baby unit was also phenomenal with checking in on us and not being overly disruptive. Every nurse, doctor and corpsman that we worked with listened to our concerns and eased our transition.
All of the staff were professional and genuine. They respected our privacy and we’re supportive of our decisions.
The room was a good size and was set up with everything we needed.
I had a not so good experience at an army hospital six years ago with a traumatic csection and this time was completely different—wonderful and memorable which I will cherish. I don’t think they get enough credit for all they do. I actually feel as though I gained closure from the last one and am so grateful for all they did for me and my family 🤗

Life doesn't always go as planned. Our vacation was overshadowed by my husband's growing illness which culminated in my having to take him to the Emergency Room at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital. This Emergency Room is efficiently operated by a very professional staff, from check-in to triage to diagnosis. And, on top of that, probably the best nurse ever, Sarah Pringle, picture below. Thank you to all the staff at the ER.

Honestly the best care I've had at a military hospital. I just delivered my first child here two weeks ago and I can't praise the doctors and nurses enough.
I had preeclampsia and for our safety I had a scheduled induction. All of the hospital staff was amazing. Every single person that I encountered working at this hospital was so dang kind.
This was my first child and there were times during the induction process that I was hesitant to make decisions, and everyone was super understanding and walked me through processes so that I was more comfortable.
The delivery team was amazing. I fully believe that a successful birth starts with your birthing team, and they were wonderful. They were professional, personable, encouraging, and were able to laugh and crack jokes with me which helped ease my anxiety. I had a quick, easy delivery, and I know it was 100% because of them. The recovery side was equally amazing. They were so helpful, giving me everything I could possibly need for a successful recovery.
I can't thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at NMCP enough.

This was my first time visiting my new neurologist after moving from San Diego due to my husband’s orders and I gotta say, Dr. Manners was super thorough and attentive! I had Kaiser before getting on TriCare and I had a team of excellent neurologists/neurosurgeons there so I was definitely skeptical about having to get a new one over here. But even my neurologist back home didn’t perform the neuro checks or gave me as much time as Dr. Manners did! She took the time to listen to my history and asked a lot of questions to get a better understanding. I definitely feel comfortable and confident. Scheduling an MRI was not difficult at all, I’ve had a couple before so I knew it was gonna be a few weeks out but the lady on the phone was nice and informative. It sucks that there’s some reviews on here that have had some traumatic experiences. I guess it really depends on what you’re coming here for but so far Neurology has exceeded my expectations!

I recently visited the Portsmouth ER and received wonderful care. My condition involved an open wound, and the ER staff was very responsive. After completing their assessment, they made some phone calls and a surgical team was down within an hour to assess the situation. Fortunately the surgery team was able to resolve the issue in the ER with a small procedure. From checkin to discharge it was 2.5 hours - very reasonable. The team members whose names I caught included Dr. Shepps, Dr. LeBlanc, Dr. Cort, and Dr. Nealy. We also received great care from the techs and nurses who were on shift. After reading the mixed reviews here, I wanted to be sure to add a positive one because they did an excellent job. Thank you :)
