Black Pelican Oceanfront Restaurant

Been here multiple times with great food and service each trip! Grilled swordfish and grilled skewer of shrimp was my choice....cooked perfect!!
My wife ordered Grilled Mahi Oscar style and she said it was great!! Fried flounder plate was on point!!

We had a wonderful experience at the Back Pelican for lunch. Our server, Kayla, was spot on with the recommendations she gave us. We had enough food left over to have an entire meal the next day. Our server was very attentive and friendly. My husband had a tuna salad sandwich and I had a chicken salad sandwich. The french fries were amazing, as was the iced tea.

I'm not big on seafood but this was delicious! The shrimp and grits were perfect. It was crowded but thankfully you could pre-game before your meal at the bar up top. The service was wonderful and the waitress and bartender both were super social and attentive.

Always a great staple choice with awesome variety of options. All the food and drinks are always top notch. You can't go wrong here ever. Been coming here for years and never disappointed. Elderflower mule was delicious. Definitely try one of their drink specials, they are so unique. Sometimes the seasonal wait staff isn't perfect but that's ok. Yesterday everything the guy set down he basically slammed, but he was young and it didn't make a mess or anything just a little caught off guard. Otherwise the evening was perfect and the store has some great shopping you can do while you wait out after your meal. Found some great necklaces for $8 and beach decor that was very affordable.

We used Black Pelican Catering for our wedding buffet at a private residence in Nags Head. Leading up to the wedding it was an incredible pleasure working with Jen & Summer who were professional and patient with all of my questions and menu adjustments. We visited the restaurant beforehand to try some of the items on their catering menu and immediately knew we wanted to go with them! The crab rangoon and sweet potato ham biscuits are AMAZING! My Maryland husband is very picky about crab cakes and even HE gave their crab cakes the stamp of approval. High praise! There were some issues with the delivery on the day of the wedding, but Black Pelican was quick to apologize and go way beyond what we were expecting to correct our experience. I was worried about the quantity of food since you never know how guests will act around a buffet, but we were assured that there would be plenty for everyone to try everything on the menu. And sure enough, there was PLENTY to go around and we even had some leftover! We are so grateful for their kindness and quality! We would highly recommend them for catering.

Our first visit to the Black Pelican was followed fairly quickly by a second visit a few days later. We love the Outer Banks and now I think we have a favorite restaurant here! Sarah was the very best server. So sweet, so attentive, and so genuinely perky & kind. When my husband was getting low on iced tea, I believe it was the manager who insured that we didn’t go without. But we wouldn’t have any way. They took great care of us!
The food is great, the menu selection is great, the desserts are homemade & to die for, and we have enjoyed it very much twice now. We’ll be back! We also love the gift shop and the great long,-sleeved surf T-shirts that we picked up!

Very nice location with an ocean view. Lunch was very reasonable with their specials. And Grant the server, made our first visit exceptional. We enjoyed our food I had the Blue Plate Special (Fried chicken that did not disappoint), my wife had the French Dip that was delicious (and was too big to consume in one sitting). We will definitely be back.

I got the spicy shrimp and grits and it was fantastic! It had a great level of heat (might be too hot for some), flavors went well together. The shrimp was slightly overcooked but the rest of the dusk was so good I could overlook that.

My wife got snow crab legs and they were very good. They were cooked perfectly.

Ate at some other local spots and this one was the best! We are a large group of 11 and we were all seated together, which was the first plus, It’s a large establishment. They have a great kids menu, sea food lovers, meat lovers, steamed foods including crab and buckets of “boil”, vegetarian options (not just the items listed as sides, but real food), pizza lovers…truly something for everyone! I had a frozen piña colada, which wasn’t from a machine❤. The staff was friendly and quick. The hot food came out hot and delicious. Everything we ordered was great! I think it was the only place the whole family was happy.

Great local hangout, pro local tip hang out at the lower bar to get the best stories and meet the best people. The service was super friendly and accommodating. Now to the food, we ordered 4 appetizers and they were the best. Oysters Orville, Tuna Tatakke, and the baked brie, plus a cup of corn, crab, bacon chowder. Some of the best food ever. So yourself a favor and visit this place and enjoy.

Enjoyed our first experience here. Staff was very friendly and on top of their stuff. Started with the lobster soup, very tasty. We also had the Pan seared rock fish with beets and rice. Accompanied by a hollandaise sauce. I’m not a fan of beats but these were great. The other was chefs pasta. It was a good fettuccine pasta. Shrimp cooked perfectly. Finished off with a apple pecan crisp. Leaving this place stuffed! Over all great environment and staff. We had a nice view of the beach. Definitely will be coming back.

Great restaurant! Service, food and views are wow! We almost went back the second night at the OBX. Dining with the views of the dune is unbelievable. Dishes are creative and more importantly, delicious.

My brother had a lunch pizza an house salad. Portions were huge. Said was the best pizza he's ever had!
I had blackened tuna bites. Much bigger than bites, was absolutely the best I've ever had!!! Comes with a awesome salsa an chips. Been bringing my family an friend's here for year's.

Awesome food great hospitality, the flounder poe boy sandwich, the crab cakes were awesome, the built your own pizza option for lunch is perfect for picky teenagers. This visit was off-season so during the summer this place is probably pretty busy.

Really great overall restaurant. Seafood specials were awesome and many non-seafood options as well..very prompt service. This is an Outerbanks must try.

I often just grab take out, but this time a friend and I are in. Kayla was awesome. Great food; much on the menu to choose from. I kept it simple with a Chicken Caesar wrap & fries but will go back to dine in many more times. I am not a seafood person so it was refreshing that there are so many alternatives.

Wow! What an fabulous find in Kitty Hawk! This historical lifesaving station is full of photos and OBX history. I love that they have preserved the history all while offering an awesome selection of delicious local fare! We had the crab and artichoke dip appetizer and clam bake for two. The dip was fabulous and the clam bake was the best I've ever had! Not just corn and potatoes, but super fresh broccoli, carrots and squash too! The bucket was chock full and we couldn't even finish it all. The best part of this place was the people. Our server Stefan was awesome! He was fast and friendly and offered good recommendations! The lady at the gift shop was also very friendly and helpful. It's so nice to see people still enjoying their job! No disappointments here. We'll visit again when we come back to the OBX!
