Great food, service, and ambiance.
Enjoyed bread service (complete with oil and pesto for dipping) and wine options, amazing salads, entrees were all on-point. Portions are ample; we took leftovers in boxes with no problems.
May have to wait (outside or at the bar) as the place is usually packed for all three seatings. Worth it.

As others have said, get there when they open, they do not take reservations. The restaurant is a small, intimate space. The food doesn't disappoint, it was delicious and very reasonable for the large portions. They do allow take out orders.

Excellent meal! We shared the pear salad, which was plenty for 2 people and our entrees were also huge portions. Tasty fresh bread and appetizers. Get there early since they don’t take reservations—doors open at 5 pm. 😊

This restaurant came highly recommended by a couple of people we met on a dolphin watch on Roanoke Island. We are so happy that we took their recommendation because this has to be the best Italian food we have had in a very long time. The smell of freshly baked Italian bread was so intoxicating that we couldn't wait to get our own. Dipping the freshly baked bread, which was soft on the interior and a crispy exterior, in the pesto and olive oil dip, made the bread taste even better. That was some of the best pesto I have ever tasted. Fresh basil, cheese, pine nuts and oil made this pesto shine. We started our meal with Nonna's Potato Croquettes. Creamy and flavorful mashed potatoes coated in a crispy bread crumb exterior. My wife ordered the Josephine's Combo, and was blown away by the size of everything on the dish. Two fresh and tender meatballs stuffed with mozzarella cheese, fresh homemade Italian Sausage, pasta coated in an amazingly flavorful Bolognese sauce that was rich with meat and balanced by the incredibly flavorful and delicately sweet tomatoes. My son's Spinach Lasagna was some of the best lasagna I have tasted. The filling was both creamy and light, and deliciously addictive. Then came the Shrimp Scampi I ordered. The shrimp were tender and full of flavor, and the pasta was perfectly Al dente. The scampi sauce was the perfect balance of garlic and lemon. Again so good that I had to clear my plate. For dessert we enjoyed two Cannolis, one with a plain shell and another with a chocolate dipped shell, and a Tiramisu. The cannolis filling was sweet, creamy and a good balance of chocolate chips, and the best part was that the cannoli shells were completely filled with cream. The cannoli shell was light, crunchy and a hint of sweet cinnamon. What I enjoyed about the chocolate dipped cannoli shell was that it was a thin coating of chocolate which didn't overpower the sweet cinnamon flavor. The Tiramisu was outstanding. Creamy filling, sweet ladyfingers coated in espresso coffee, and topped with cocoa powder. Yum. I am part Italian, and I have to say this is the best Italian restaurant meal my family and I have had in a very long time. Kudos to you and your staff.

Small intimate romantic atmosphere. Food was amazing best Italian food we have had in 10 years. Service was wonderful and prompt. Highly recommend

What an awesome dinner to celebrate our daughter's engagement. Just an hour before coming to the restaurant July 8th, she was proposed to in her favorite city, Florence Italy. So a dinner from Josephine's was perfect. We selected Chicken Marsala and Veal Scallopini along with excellent desserts. While we actually did carryout, it could not have been any better and appropriate. Awesome.

I can't say anything bad about this place! The food was amazing, and we will definitely be back again. Jim the bartender was great!

Be sure to stop and check this place out if you’re craving good italian. I had the pear salad and Tuscan Chicken and it was excellent. I highly recommend this place for dinner. Prices are very reasonable.

The best Italian food I've ever had! And I'm Italian. (Sorry grandma, lol)

Food was very good. Our server was very distracted by other guest and put off serving us our desert. So we asked someone else to give us our desert that our server had placed on a worktable (several minutes prior) next to our dining table. Our Tiramisu had set out so long, it was room temp and starting to collapse.

This is my favorite Italian restaurant, ever. When you step in the door, you feel as if you're in New York city! The service is always impeccable, everyone is friendly, and the food is delicious! The menu is small, but everything tastes fresh and homemade. I've been coming here for at least 10 years, and I've never had a bad meal or bad experience.

Josephine's is always a delicious experience. You will be able to eat several times off the same meal. The warm bread and seasoned, dipping oil are a great starter. The stuffed grape leaves, when available, are very good.

This family owned local favorite is not only the best Sicilian food in OBX but the atmosphere and service is what makes this place a great experience!

Stumbled upon this place during our vacation. It also happened to be the night of our wedding anniversary. We were seated very quickly (at the bar) during an extremely busy night. The food was absolutely out of this world delicious. Ray the bartender was super busy but still very friendly. He even Googled how to make the crazy drink I asked for. It came out so delicious, I had a second one! I highly recommend Josephine's. The staff is friendly and the food is divine. I'd be a regular if I didn't live 8 hours away.

Sometimes when you find a gem you don't anyone else to find out about it so writing this review is tough because our experience was so great when more people find out about this place it is going to get more difficult to get in. In all sincerity, our food was absolutely delicious, the portions are huge, beyond belief really, the service was exceptional (we sat at the bar), and the atmosphere was very pleasant. It was really an incredible experience and the best part was how affordable it was. They could honestly charge double for the quality and quantity of the food. I highly recommend this place.

Cute little place, very intimate. Love the atmosphere, and the food was AMAZING ❤❤. The portions were huge, and the dessert was made with love. Shannon was a great waitress and attended to us a lot even though she had a lot of other tables to attend to. Will definitely eat here again

The atmosphere is wonderful, and the food is incredible. You get huge portions for the price, and everything I have tried so far has been amazing. The staff is also incredibly friendly, which makes you want to keep coming back. This was the eggplant bruschetta, and Chicken parmesan. It was phenomenal.

It's a small Restaurant, maybe a dozen tables at best so it fills up quickly. We've been a few times and the busiest time seems to be between 5 and 7 pm. Food is excellent, though the menu is limited. They do rotate the menu though so it's been different every time we've been. Prices are very reasonable, and the portions are generous. It's really cozy in there, and the service is great. Capisce ?

Josephine’s is simply the best! We went this week for the first time this year. We arrived at 6:30PM and had a short wait for a table. Later is usually better for getting a table quicker during the off-season. The food was fantastic! Plentiful and delicious as always. They never miss a beat regardless of how busy they are. Jennifer was our server and she was both friendly and attentive. The value is undeniable and we brought home leftovers for lunch the next day. They have a reasonably priced wine list and the menu selections are limited but all exceptional. We had a great meal and were thrilled to be back again.

We really enjoyed our dinner there. Great ambiance and tastefully done decors. Staff were very friendly and professional. Waited few minute for our seats to become available. Drink at the bar was on point and had nice conversation with other customers and bartender. Once we got the seat and got good, it was fantastic. Linguine with oyster was so good that I think I ate the last drop of sauce. Great experience there and looking forward to come back here soon!
