One of the historic buildings of The Great Smoky Mountains NP. It's a 2.2 mile hike from Metcalf Bottoms or you can take a narrow one lane gravel road back to shave one mile off the trip. It's currently in the restoration process but still very much worth the hike. This is a beutiful old structure with incredible stacked stone fire places. The restoration process has brought this old girl back to life. Incredible workmanship from skilled artisans of old techniques. I highly recommend a hike back to view this one of a kind home. PLEASE leave it as you found it and don't carve your name in irreplaceable timbers. Show some respect and leave no trace of you being there. This place deserves that so we can have it for the next generation.

As a 4th cousin removed here, this place is extremely special to me. I visit anytime in the area. The roof needs repairs and not sure if there are plans to help restore it. There is at least a tarp covering it to slow additional damage to the rest of the cabin.

These women were the real deal. I'm proud to be part of this family. I've included some additional photos from archives as their history in Eastern TN should be remembered. Its a beautiful short, easy hike to the small cabin (1.1 miles)

How amazing it was to step back in time to life very different than our own. An easy trail to hike, it was made better by the ranger who led the way teaching us about the woods as we went. She also told us a detailed history of the Waller's sisters who had been granted a lifetime lease of their that lies inside the National Park.

A quiet walk starting on the Little Brier Gap trail, following the old road to the historic structures of the Five Walker Sisters. Be one of the rare visitors to this old homestead, and take the time to reflect on the life of the Walkers. YouTube has an outstanding 10 minute special from a local news station on the buildings and the lives of the Sisters - definitely worth watching before or after your visit.

Beautiful piece of history hidden in the Smoky Mountains! We enjoyed our trek to the Little Greenbrier School, cemetery and the Walker Sisters Cabin. Loved reading about the Walker Sister's and their father and to see the homestead in person is truly wonderful! Highly recommend, you won't be disappointed!

Nice gentle walk out to the Walker Sisters Cabin. If you start at the Metcalf Bottoms picnic area you will add an additional .7 miles by starting on the Metcalf Bottoms trail before continuing on the Little Brier Gap Trail. This is a moderately trafficked trail.

Fairly easy hike that starts just past the Little Greenbrier School. You can drive up to the school house or hike to it from Metcalf Bottoms. The road up is narrow and hard to pass another vehicle in spots, especially if you have a SUV/truck. Great hike for the whole family. If you're lucky you will see some turkey or deer.

Really nice hike up to the cabin. All gravel. There are books all around town about the Walker sisters, get one and read up! It will make the experience mean more! It's 1.1 mile hike if you drive down Lil greenbrier rd to the old schoolhouse but beware it is a narrow road.

Wonderful walk through the woods. Hike is 1.1 miles one way that is fairly easy...some ups and downs. Homestead is picture perfect. On Tuesdays there is a presentation at the little Greenbriar School house located at trailhead. Presentations are at 11:00 and 2:00 and are great for those who enjoy learning about the history of the Park. Wonderful for all ages! Pictured are the school house and the Walker Sisters Cabin.

This place is a short hike from the Schoolhouse parking along mostly flat trail. The house and other building on site are well maintained and interesting to see.

Great day hike for the whole family. Only two miles round-trip. The trail is actually a gravel road.

Relatively easy hike if you park at the Little Green Briar school. Peaceful grounds and area; away from the crowds.

We drove the narrow road from Metcalf Bottoms to the schoolhouse then hiked to the cabin. We are not hikers by any means but it was a nice hike. It was my husband and I and our two kids (4.5 and 2). My husband wore our 2 year old in the hiking backpack and said it wasn’t bad at all. My 4.5 year old did awesome for how steady the incline was, the rough terrain in places and for never really hiking before. The road to the schoolhouse is way too narrow for my liking - we met two cars going up and we had absolutely nowhere to back up to so thankfully one car could and we were able to barely pass the other. Something to keep in mind if you’re trying to decide whether to hike from Metcalf Bottoms or drive to save some time. Very cool to walk through the cabin especially after doing some reading on the Walker family.

Step back in time and hike out to their cabin. Pretty cool to read up in the history of the place and area. I couldn’t imagine living here but they did. I suggest getting some books to read about it then hiking out there. Tour the school and imagine what life was life you them back in the day. Great day trip!
