Great place for steak and meat lovers, the lamb rack was amazing , my wife had the bacon wrapped tender loin wich was also.pretty tasty . Venison sausage was also pretty decent , I like that they have a variety of meats to choose from . As far as the sides they are pretty standard bit flavor is on point. Place has a flashback vibe with variwty of cool little trinkets in the fairly large waiting area. Loved this place

I am 69 years old. Love to revisit my childhood in the Alamo Heights area of San Antonio Texas. The Barn Door was part of the fabric of my childhood. Tuxedo is where my family home was. Things have changed. Evolution in growth. But my memories live on. Every special occasion, just an evening family dinner, The Barn Door was it! Then, I find out Steve Strauss owned it at one point!!! Wow, remember riding in his jeep out to the ranch! Freshman in high school! Times change. Slightly wild and fun, living the life in AH, 09’ers as we were referred to. Long before 90210 came into vogue. My hats off to Stevie. We live and learn! Somehow we grew up unscathed but having to much fun!!! The family had some hella good racehorses, but then, so did I!!

A San Antonio legend! The overall menu looks amazing, but I can also attest they can handle a large group! We enjoyed our set menu, and everything came out quickly and well made. The building is super cool, with tons of history, and the steak was awfully good.

I don’t know where to start from beginning to end everything was fantastic from the drinks to the food there was no disappointment they took care of us in a timely fashion and the food was brought out to us hot n ready to be devoured the rolls in my opinion are underrated they were amazing and I got the ribeye steak and twice baked potato everything was fantastic I’m super stuffed and can’t force another bite if I wanted I also stepped up to the 2 drink challenge and I’m halfway through thoroughly understanding why it’s a 2 drink max on this one I got a bit of history from the manager Eric who gave us some background on the restaurant and also blessed us with some of the most amazing house steak sauce to take home I’ve had to this day to say the least I was very impressed from beginning to end with this restaurant and would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a great environment to enjoy a feast with the family or even a friend thank you for making my experience special I’ll def be back

Had a great experience before the dinner rush. The rolls were warm, soft, and tasted fantastic to start. The 10 oz New York Strip was tender, juicy, and great taste and texture. Mac and cheese was a delicious complement as a side. Top 5 steaks I’ve had for sure. The tenderloin salad was good. So good that the salad wasn’t needed and should have got the steak instead. Waitress and service were excellent as well. Will definitely make another trip back.

I recently went here for my birthday. I've been in San Antonio for years but never heard of this Gem. Once they knew I was coming for my birthday , everyone greeted me by name and made me feel welcomed. Everything and I mean everything was great. We (party of 6) got the lamb chops , twice baked potatoes, the fried chicken with gravy , the 15 oz ribeye and the 12 oz club steak. Yes we needed to go trays which makes everything even better, streak for breakfast. We then got the strawberry lemonade daiquiri which was absolutely the best I've never had ! I tried the beer flights which were 4 for $7. I'm not a beer person but it was worth it and I like the ales. For dessert we got cheese cake and peach cobbler. I'm not over exaggerating, the best ever ! The cheesecake factory could only dream of making something that good. They have a BBQ sauce for the steak as well but I packed some to go but at the table the steak was made to pure perfection. No sauce was needed or thought of. All the staff was super friendly, we even got a tour! I found out a few hours before about the speakeasy (RD) and reserved my time . 😊 I honestly had an amazing birthday. Oh on Sundays they do have brunch with $3 mimosas! They even have QR codes on the receipts, so you can pay by phone so everyone's cards aren't being mixed up. I seriously encourage everyone to try this pace out. The many rooms , the hand carved table, the decorations..... just awesome...Roxana was our Wonderful server. Thank you all but mostly Eric, you made everything wonderful. I will tell everyone about this place not only for the history and food but because you made us feel at home.

Great old school steakhouse! Staff is super friendly and have been there for years... They are like family to each other. We got the Chateaubriand steak and it was cooked perfectly and tender. Hugh portions. Good size restaurant very clean. They do have separate party rooms for rent too. Worth going.

We wanted to sit outside and enjoy the nice weather, which was accommodated. The service was a bit slow but we didn’t mind as we were enjoying the evening. The food was delicious.

Stopped by here because we read about the history and saw a lot of good reviews. We are so happy we did because it was a really good experience. The restaurant itself is really nice on the inside and really pays tribute to their long history. The customer service is top notch here. Every employee we came in contact with were happy to serve and great to talk to. That alone would be worth 5 stars but the food is also great!

For two people I recommend splitting an entree and ordering separate sides.

I know that you cannot compare chopped beef and with a ribeye, but my GOD! It was the best chicken fried steak I have ever eaten (sorry grandma) and it would feed 3 people easy!!

Amazing 1st experience tonight! Awesome service and delicious food. Loved the strawberry lemonade frozen drinks as well. Shout out to Ally our waitress who was very helpful and attentive. On point girl! Definitely gonna come back again!

We were seated fast. No wait. Waitress was right there with the menus and taking drink orders. We ordered and the food came out pretty darn fast. Will highly recommend this establishment.

First time eating here. Food was fantastic. Steaks were perfectly cooked. Service was just as great. Definitely coming again when we're in town.

Went here for date night with the spouse and brought the little along. I was a little worried about bringing my rowdy 1 year old, but everyone was super sweet with her. On top of that, they actually cooked my steak how I like it. I ordered a rare steak and actually got a rare steak! Which is quite *rare* to find these days. The only note I have is that the homemade ranch for the salads was missing a little acid. So I would order a different salad dressing next time. Also, I recommend reserving your table! I'm not positive if it's required, but it wasn't difficult to do and saved me any waiting time.

If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Our server David was probably the best server we have ever had. He went above and beyond for us. He made us a list of places that he recommended we visit while in San Antonio and he also gave us free dessert for me and my husband. Not to mention how amazing the food was. The portions were plentiful and the salmon and the steak was perfectly cooked. Our compliments to the chef!

Really good food and the staff is beyond amazing. JD was the best server, was engaging, made suggestions, and has a very positive attitude.

Saturday was my family and my first visit experience at Barn Door and it was so stellar, that writing this review does not do full justice. From management (Eric) greeting us at the door, all staff making us feel welcome, like family, and most importantly, the food rendering my visiting father speechless. The only unfortunate part is he had to return to Maryland, while the rest of my family, and myself will be forced to return to Barn Door without him.

A hidden gem !!! The atmosphere is awesome like a mini museum and it can serve as a romantic spot or family gathering spot Great place togther amd reasonable for being a steak place .We've made a point to visit at least once a week as a family and my Son has tried just about every thing on the menu Cabrito tone ribeye etc and their salad and baked potatos are great on point and those hot rolls are the icing on the cake just great all the way around its hard to find a place that has a good atmosphere then to have good customer service and great food all at decent prices . Especially post covid just having to write this makes me want to visit them for dinner today They get my stamp of approval #NinagzFave
