Bale of Hay Saloon

Came in after exploring the town. Didn't catch the bartender's name,but she was great. Nice selection of craft beers, and not overpriced. Had both scotch alew, the raspberry wheat and the porter. All good. Would go back

Wow were we hungry and wow was the food satisfying! Simple seeming menu, but really fast and good service! Loved the homemade pasty (which they bring in along with the tamales from Butte MT.) And the square cherry pie was quite possibly the best cherry pie I’ve ever had. Good service and really cool atmosphere! Easy to add another 5 star rating to this place!

I'm not sure it's possible to go to a restored old west town without stepping into an original saloon that's still operating from the 1800s. Great atmosphere. And if you drink anything but a bourbon or rye from nearby, you're just a poser. Thankfully, there's a great distillery down the road in Ennis and their Bighorn Bourbon was behind the bar.

Has gril options...they serve cheese burgers, hamburgers, Johnsonville brats, italian sausage sandwiches, beef pasties. There's also patio seating or you can have you meal at the bar. Not interested in alcohol?...no prob....they have non-alcoholic beverages.

Virginia City turned out to be a great stop between Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks. Saloon and many shops in mid-19th century fashion to visit. If you only have a couple of hours, this is better and livelier than next-door Nevada City, which is more of a museum town.

What a cool bar!! You can order food from nearby Nacho Mama. Excellent craft craft beer selection.

We were visiting VC witha group of 8 and had an amazing lunch and live music ..Ice cold drinks and had a wonderful time.

This is a great saloon in the heart of Virginia City. Stop here for a beer or a pizza or some snacks. You will not be disappointed. Friendly atmosphere and great service! Plus it's Virginia City!

This bar is an incredible little piece of western history. If you go there as a tourist, be generous to the locals and have a good time! They're a great bunch of warm and welcoming people who have a lot of fun stories and experiences to share. Five stars!

The bar is old and cool, good drinks and moonshine. Cool old stove. The bartender is pretty cool.

We came to Virginia City in July for the history, the Bale of Hay Saloon was a bonus. We sat outside on the deck with our dog, which was really nice. Everyone we met was very friendly. Fun atmosphere, good service, great drinks. Glad to say I've been there and got the t-shirt, we'll definitely be back.

One of the longest-running oldest watering holes in Montana! Nice cold beer great way to cool off. Lots of outdoor patio seating here. Did not try the food but the service and beer was good

The Bale is under new management this year. It is a family-friendly bar, until about 10 pm-- meaning that children and teens are welcome until then. I don't drink, so I had a sarsaparilla (similar to Root Beer) while my friends had mixed drinks. You can also get a can of Coke or Sprite here. (I'm sure there are other soda pops available, but I didn't look too closely.) They have a mixed drink and beer menu as well. We also shared a plate of yummy bite-sized pasties.

Stopped in for a drink, and the place was fun and amazing.
