I have been coming to Marcus Book Store since I was a little girl. The atmosphere hasn’t changed…you can still sit on the floor and read. The selection is amazing and the service is wonderful.

Very well stocked, clean, conveniently located, community bookshop. Specializing in books by, for and about Black people. Extensive collection of children's books. Some lifestyle, cookbooks, too. Very friendly helpful knowledgeable personnel. Shopping experience enhanced by soulful background music, mostly jazz.

I favorably recommend this Bookstore for Books, Black Culture, Greeting Cards, and other gifts. The amazing woman that helped me today. Made me so proud of our Rich History. They have a great selection of books and a friendly knowledgeable staff. The owner really loves what they do. It's family friendly with books for all ages.

It centers Black people's stories and experiences. Every facet of the store is geared toward Blackness which makes it a truly engaging and inviting space for Black People to congregate.

I've been going there forever, since the 1980's. The ONLY Black-owned bookstore in the Bay Area. WE NEED TO SUPPORT IT FOREVER!!!

I haven't been here in years. Decades to be exact. It was nice to be back in an area dedicated to who I am as a woman of color in this world.

When I entered Marcus Books (we went there immediately after I flight landed in SF), I felt like I'd arrived home. I approached the front counter and asked the lady behind the desk if she was the owner. Her response, "Yes, I'm one of them." When I told her that I LOVE the bookstore, she said, "It loves you back." What an amazing store, the selection is broad and comprehensive, featuring multiple genres by and about Black ppl. I limited myself to 3 books and nothing else, which was a deal I had to make with myself before entering!! LOL! The feeling of being in a bookshop that's been around since the 1960s is indescribable. I love, love, love it. Thanks for all you do, Marcus Books.

I don't think that people realize how great of a jewel this store is it has been in business for more than 50 years great store.

The calm spirit of the staff and communication style had me wanting to stay longer in the store. I purchased a book as a result of the knowledge of the owner.

Her knowledge opened up my spirit and the book I walked out with is called ..."The Spirit of A Man"... by IYANLA VANZANT.

I did not go there to purchase a book. It was the owner that talked to meet on the phone and by the time I left the store I am reading a new book.

Hands down the best family owned (for 60 years) bookstore in the Bay Area. Great customer service, great selection of books by black authors. I've purchased books from MB since 1986.

Love thus bookstore very unique gifts and items. Loved the t shirt the owner was wearing minding my own black business. Found great ethnic calenders. Purses. Magnets, books. And other products. I live that place I go everything I visit NY sister who lives in the Oakland hills!

Oldest Black bookstore at least West of the Mississippi and probably in the US. A treat for readers of all ages. One love!
