This would make my 3rd trip to this amazing establishment. This time was a bit different being I ran across an elderly couple who hadn’t had a meal in a few days due to their bank card being froze. The entire staff was kind and patient enough for me to assist in contacting the bank once the purchase was declined. The issue was resolved and wow talking about some delicious chicken rotisserie sandwiches and fries (yes order). We also purchased some strawberries which were VERY sweet, along with other fruits and chips. This is my new go to when I travel!! Wish I was local to order right now:) Thank you to the entire staff for your understandings and kindness.

Nice little grocery Co-op . Sandwiches ,produce ,snacks ,drinks . Just across the street from West Oakland Bart station and the new grey hound bus stop . Good place to grab some last minute food for Bus

They pack all the bare necessities and then some !! They even have a well stocked bulk fill section with herbs, spices, and nuts. Better quality food than the target and grocery chain next to me and their prices are decent. Happy customer, thank you!

Great place to stop after exiting West Oakland BART station. I usually grab a prepared sandwich and a bag of oranges. It’s a small grocery store, but the staff are friendly and are able to chit chat. I love being more purposefully with my dollars.

I wish I lived close to here, because if I did, I would shop here every time I need groceries. I came in looking for Oakland made kubé ice cream, and they were super well stocked with every flavor. Then, to my surprise, I saw various other small local vegan brands stocked, like granola and muffins from Way To Life Foods, and cookies from Sugar Plum Vegan. There were even other vegan products that I'd never seen before, and pre-made vegan meals.

Such a great selection considering the size of the store!

Super-helpful staff. I mentioned a new vegan egg substitute I’d seen online, and without me having to ask if they could get it, they got the info and said they’d attempt to order it. I also found a delicious new maté lemonade to go with my platanos maduros. Win-win!

Staff is very very friendly , specially the manager named nikiya. Very down to earth and polite . Store is blessed to have staff like nikiya and u'ush. Once I was on my UNFI truck and was starving for long time. Suddenly found this awesome place with hot food as well. Best in bay area. Thanks 😊

Love supporting our local neighborhood businesses! I will say some days the produce isn’t as great as others but it’s just fine if you’re cooking the same day. They have an impressive selection for being in the middle of a food desert. Some days the staff is friendlier then other days but overall better than any corporate grocery.

Mandela's is the best! First, always friendly people. Then, always fresh produce. THEN, NICE PEOPLE AGAIN! Community spots are awesome for so many reasons. If you live close then please visit this spot! West Oakland needs Mandela!

They have a decent selection compared to the size of the store. They recently rearranged the items, it made better use of the space. They give discounts to local customers. They often give away gift cards. It's the ONLY grocery store in W. Oakland.!! All of the service providers are very polite, always offering their assistance. A lot of the larger grocery stores make it hard to even get help, unless you look for a clerk & ask. Prices maybe a smidge higher, but it's a smaller more personal experience. The clerks may not know your name, but they can usually recognize your face.

This place Is amazing and a food alternative to have instead of fast food located in west Oakland. You can get some good healthy plates already made... and they are bringing back the fresh cooked meals on some fridays
