Arizmendi Bakery & Pizzeria

While visiting our daughter in Oakland, we heard about Arizmendi’s Bakery & Pizzeria and had walked by on a Tuesday, but unfortunately for us they were closed. They are open Wednesday through Sundays! The first time I went into their store it was early in the morning and I almost passed out from the aroma of their breads. I purchased their sourdough and garlic Parmesan breads and some of their scones! Every was delicious and the breads weee still warm having recently come out of the oven. The last time I went there, I purchased a container of their red lentils soup that was spicy and delicious! While we had to fly back to New York, we’ll be returning soon. We also purchased one of their pizzas that was also great! And their prices are surprisingly reasonable!

Delicious pastries made fresh every morning, sourdough bread and savory items made with the same sourdough like their cheese rolls or the X-rolls which are cheese rolls with a veggie(s) that changes throughout the week. The breads also rotate throughout the week, my favorite are the potato bread and the olive sourdough. Can’t leave the shop without an oatmeal cookie.
Everyday they make vegetarian pizza, there’s even a vegan version of the daily pizza, also their delicious cheese pizza which uses their made from scratch marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese ( you can take a cheese light bake pie and put your own toppings at home to finish it your way!!)
Coffee, lattes, tea, and other hot drinks along a few cold soda drinks.
Their green sauce it’s a great addition to your pizza.
You can also grab soup, salad and hummus for a complete family meal.
If you go there early you can also catch something called “egg in the hole” marinara sauce, mozzarella and/or other cheese, one egg and some veggies in a baked pastry!!

The pizza great-grandpartent of most of the good California style pizza places in the East bay, Arizmendi DNA, can be found in the pizza sold at Nabalom, (my favorite), Cheese Board, Sliver and others, since the delicious crust recipe, trickled down, from employees of Arizmendi and Cheese Board, who after years working the old school establishments went on to open their own Pizza and Bakery spots.
A little different from the other Pizza/Bakery spots, Arizmendi has three choices daily, the daily special, the vegan, and a more traditional cheese and marinara pizza. Sold as "quarters" (2 slices) for under $8 with a tip, this is a fairly priced spot for the neighborhood.
Also they have a very respectable bakery, in which lovers of Cheese Board, will see the same kind of baked selections, presented the same way, in a wood case with transparent swinging doors.
The cheese slice, a cross between the thin crispy pizza of a New York slice as served at places like Arinelles, and the puffier pizza sold at most pizza places, had a nice chewy texture and the sauce was great.
The daily special, (mushrooms and red onions), is the most Berkeley type slice here, and was like a slice from the Cheese Board, only slightly puffier.
I recommend this place if you find yourself on the waterfront in Emeryville, for delicious pizza.
They also make a respectable Cafe Latte, and have a nice outdoor seating area.

The pizza flavors change daily. It was my first time to have red onions and brocolli as pizza toppings, but it was perfect with the sourdough base. They had equator coffee’s French blend for drip coffee at time of our visit. The coffee was perfect with the currant scones I ordered.

Visited on our last day in town and grabbed a few loaves for the flight. Bread was amazing (za'atar feta, mushroom x roll, and olive sourdough). The folks working were helpful and super nice! If you get there at the right time, you might even get a sample of their pizza of the day! Today's was arugula, red onion, gorgonzola, walnut, and balsamic... It may be the best pizza I've ever put in my mouth. Parking was a breeze in the lot nextdoor. Highly recommend.

sometimes I wake up thinking about their egg in the hole and it never disappoints! savory goods all have a sourdough base (I think) so if chewy with a lil tang is your jam (I mean.. bread) this is the spot. I also love their corn blueberry and pumpkin chocolate chip muffins, but don't expect a Ton of berries or chips, just a few (pumpkin only has it on top). do bring them home and add butter, jam, more berries, chocolate chips.. everything is a good size and very reasonably priced anyways, especially for a co-op, so it's def worth it! very good variety too, there are tons of items I still have not tried. service is nice and efficient, still pick up only. thanks for being a neighborhood staple! :)

Staff is super friendly, I wanted to take home a day old pizza but couldn't fit it in my backpack and the lady was nice enough to cut it in half and wrap it for me. Worker owned coop. Pizza is delicious.

Really amazing little bakery. I personally go for the soups, Salads and the fresh baked bread. So delicious! It is an Emeryville treasure. Don’t tell too many people, it gets busy all the time.

The hot cross buns were good. i didn't know there was a devil on it all these years! I had been taking them for church

Stop in here for takeout almost once a week! Delicious sourdough pizza, focaccia, and omg the scones and cookies and cornbread muffins are my jam 😍

My favorite place to kick back and kill time. The sourdough vegetarian pizza is always different and amazing. Incredible pastries. I personally love the fresh baked $1 shortbread cookies or cornbread blueberry muffins for dessert.

As an aside, This place is a co-op and offers a number of discounts.

The pizza’s here are great. We ordered two different types and I love the Chicago Deep Dish. The Vegetarian was also very good. The service was fast and the pizza was delivered hot. They are very good with providing a thick layer of toppings. I will eat here again on my next visit to the Oakland area.

One of the best bakeries in the bay area. Great pizza and baked goods. Super friendly staff.

Fresh ingredients and daily baked specials that focuses on flavor. The menu changes daily based upon seasonal produce but there some consistent items like the 4 cheese pizza and basic breads. Vegetable soups and fresh salads also available. The friendly customer service matches the high level of the menu.

Right now no dine in you can order your from the main window and pick up your order around the order. Each day they have a different flavor in the menu.. I had the pizza with spinach, olives, parmesan cheese and drizzled in garlic oil. It was so yummy 😋

Everything here is so Fresh & delicious! Really nice staff & amazing coffee!! Went in for a quick pastry stop & fell in love so we are now ordering pastries for a company event coming up!! Great find if you get the chance!

Best pastries and fresh ingredients pizza in the Bay Area !!!

Arizmendi is my spot for great cookies. I've tried them all and all of them have that homemade taste. The bread is amazing. I haven't tried the pizza (I need meat on my pizza, they only do cheese or veggie)but they make a cheese roll that's equivalent to their cinnamon roll but it's cheesy. The cinnamon roll is Gold! I recommend early arrival on the weekends----as there are a lot of newbies to the Bay who love standing in line for early morning bread. I hate standing in line for food----so if ever I arrive and theres a line, I come back later----hoping that the Cookie Monster himself wasn't in that line. It can happen. Here's a tip: They're closed on Monday & Tuesdays, ----which is a bummer because Monday mornings suck and there's nothing like a cookie to bring the joy, so buy more on Sunday for the next two days. Or do what I do if I forgot they're closed---bake your own. Btw, I am a baker but I get lazy. This is the next best spot. 🤷🏾‍♂Cheers!
