I have frequented this theater often and each time I had a great experience. The ambiance, the employees, the look and smell, all wonderful and affords such a classic movie experience. This is the type of theater that is nostalgic for me and even though we have grand IMAX theaters in the world, there is always something quite endearing and charming about the Elmwood. There are many great restaurants nearby and parking is fairly easy if you're willing to walk a half block or so. I love it and highly recommend it!

Lovely little theater with good buttered popcorn and ginger beer/Izze's available to purchase. Love that they play films harder to find. I watched All of Us Strangers. The sound in the theater wasn't quite as good as I imagine it would be if we sat towards the middle of the theater(we sat in the back) but it wasn't a problem. Coming from three North Bay, it's nice to see these theaters really.

Parking is tough. Most of the parking nearby have meters that to up to 3g
Hrs

It is a wonderful neighborhood theater, with excellent selection of movies and old-fashioned charm. I trust their taste in choosing what to screen and never regretted it. The staff is super-friendly, too.

A cute indie theater, seems very community-oriented. The theater I was in was small, ~50 seats, but image and audio quality were both great. Prices reasonable. Staff friendly. Seems like a cute theater for a dinner date combined with the nice restaurants in the area

Great theater, friendly staff. Seats actually have comfortable amount of room for legs(important for tall guys like me) and good clean upholstery. The sound and picture quality were excellent.
Bathrooms were a bit tight due to age of building. One toilet in men's room was out of service.

Make sure to bring vaccination proof, since they were still requiring and checking for that.

All in all, a nice old-world theater!

I've been wanting to write a review about this awesome theater that screens independent films. I've gone here a few times over the years while visiting the Berkeley/Oakland area. This summer I happened to walk by and saw that the Leonard Cohen Hallelujah documentary was screening, so I went in the afternoon the next day. Boy was I surprised! Not only was everything wonderful with the theater, but the film directors were present for Q & A following the film. This was an overall great experience that was one of my favorite moments from this past summer. I hope this place continues to thrive and serve the community. (At the time I visited in Summer 2022, an ID, vaccination record, and mask were required. I carry this information with me at all times and was happy to comply and feel safe during the screening.)

Another great East Bay movie house, showing not only the current popular hits, but Art House films, independent features, and classics. Lovingly maintained, the theater is on the smaller side when compared with some of the other theaters, but the seats are comfortable oh, the snacks are cheap, and when you come out oh, there's a world of restaurants and cafes and desserts awaiting you. It's actually a great location for a movie theater.

This place is a sweet little neighborhood movie theatres. The kind that if it ever leaves we will all be diminished. This beautiful local spot has films you won't get to see other places. But your food there support this local gem!

There are so few community theaters left (and this is the last one in Berkeley). It’s a wonderful intimate venue to see a film. Highly recommend it!

Two snack lines!
Also effectively checking both vaccination certs AND ID. I really appreciate this. The seating was comfortable and clean. The concessions are obscenely priced but that's a given with any movie theater since the beginning of time. The tickets, however, are very reasonably priced, the clerks are polite and they have kombucha as a beverage option.

I will continue to patronize this establishment, gladly, throughout covid times and beyond.

This historic local movie theater is a favorite. It has excellent films, great snacks, and an easy location to get dinner before or ice cream afterwards. Highly recommended not only for the friendly stuff but also the great other clientele.

Such a wonderful neighborhood gem. Brought my 5 year old daughter to see Serengeti and The Secret Life of Pets. The theaters we saw the movies in where cozy and comfortable. Popcorn and treats were served in compostable packaging. Members of the staff even let us look at the projector. Everyone employee was friendly and helpful. Please visit, bring the kids and help keep our little neighborhood theater alive!

Cozy and intimate. Imax screen? No, but small and intimate movie theaters, very nice and classy. Sometimes if you seat close to the screen, it actually feels bigger than what it is. I hope this review does not turn you away. It's a good place for movie lovers. Friendly staff.

Absolute absolutely the best place to see a movie. Come here over any other place if you have the choice. It's small the seats are great the food is fun, and you're surrounded by cool things to do before and after. Plus they really get a great set of independent movies and first releases
