El Segundo Medical Center

I have had Dr Chanin as a family dr and also as a wonderful friend for the 6 years I lived in El Segundo, CA. He has been a great Dr who I contribute to saving my life when I suddenly fell ill ( 105 degree temperature ) and ordered my wife to take me immediately to the Emergency room. Had he not intervened the drs at the hospital told me if I had delayed coming in when I did I probably would have died! ( I was diagnosed with a full blown Staph infection! which had already started to infect my heart and brain. I had to have my Aortic valve replaced and put on the strongest antibiotic at the time, Vancomycin which ultimately saved my life. ). I owe my life to Dr Arnold Chanin. Not only is a great doctor but who is even a greater friend! Thank you Dr. Chanin and may God bestow upon you and your family rich blessings and great health!

I really disagree with these reviews. I've been going to ESM for over 4 years now and was never treated poorly. In fact it has been the opposite. The staff is great and the doctors are top notch.

While this facility has normally been a great asset to this community, recently with the departure of Dr. Channin, and availability of personnel, some expertise and possibly responsibility has been lost. A family member recently went to this facility with discomfort and an issue I thought could have been treated there. However, the office sent her away, still in pain with prescription in hand indicating that if the prescription doesn't work, go to the emergency room. Now she may have to spend part of her weekend among strangers HOPING to receive successful treatment. She is not looking forward to it and neither am I. Stay tuned while we deal with the madness of waiting in the waiting area of of an emergency room with other strangers with who knows what afflictions that may take who knows how long to resolve!

DO NOT GO TO THIS OFFICE, unless you want to pay your insurance co-pay at the time of your appointment, only to be sent to collections 4+ years later without any form of correspondence (no call, no letter, no notice). I called the office to speak to an individual in Billing only to be told “he’s not here right now, can you call back in like 45 mins and maybe he’ll be back”…truly shocked at the insanely low level of professionalism this office has for its patients.

I usually don't write reviews, but I feel compelled to break the silence. Dr. Wong is a scammer- He called me 3-years later to inform me of an unpaid bill from 2017? He sent me to collections without notice. I provided him proof that my insurance at the time paid for the doctor's visit, but he never returned any of my calls. Now I'm dealing with collections. I would not recommend this doctor to my worst enemy.

Steer clear of this medical center. I can't believe they haven't been shut down yet. Everything you're reading about Dr. Wong at this location IS TRUE. I ignored those reviews wanting to give him the benefit of the doubt, but shame on me for ignoring it. First off, the guy is nuts, I mean literally nuts. He can't even communicate properly. Has no people skills. Shouts aggressively when he talks. He's demeaning, rude, and hostile ALWAYS. There isn't a moment when there is a sliver of calmness. Second, he WILL send you to collections even if you don't owe anything. He makes up a fake bill with your name on it and sends it to collections. This guy needs to have his license taken away and this medical center NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN FOR GOOD! I have never encountered such a horrible experience with Doctor before. This guy is horrible!

Filed a grievance with my health insurance company. DO NOT GO HERE!!! They have a billing scam going on. To summarize my experience:
I went here twice - MAYBE three times and saw Dr Chanin. He was nice enough. My company was bought by another and my insurance acct # (not type or company) changed. I provided the new card to the receptionist at my next appointment.
Flash to two years later (I stopped going over a year ago, and left the state in March of 2017) and I have had to fight THREE different debt collections from two different agencies. The first I was able to settle by calling the billing person NON STOP until they processed the claim properly. The second I was able to explain to the debt collector who offered to call the office directly and settle (curious how he knew I was right). Now to the third, a new agency and a new claim. Can't get a hold of El Segundo Medical so I have filed a complaint with Anthem. They are sending me the date and time the office claims I was there and reaching out to them directly to discuss their sketchy billing practices.
This entire time I have not received one call or notice from El Segundo that they weren't able to process my insurance. This place is a sham - they over bill insurance companies and send clients to debt collectors when there are no claims because they know people don't always have the time to fight it and don't want their credit ruined. I'm not the first person they have done this to. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, this used to be an amazing medical center when Dr. Chanin was there. He was so caring. The new doctor communicates poorly and then yells at you when you don’t understand him. What kind of doctor even answers his own phone? Good luck getting any type of customer service here anymore.

Terrible service! Same issue with billing, they never contacted me about my bill and sent us to collection. Administration always put you on hold for more then 10 minutes just to let you know that the billing person (aka) Dr Wong only works from 3-5 on Wednesdays then when calling back on that day he's never available to answer. NEVER COMING HERE AGAIN. Do you guys a favor Go somewhere else unless you would want to deal with a collection's agency after your visit here.

If you want a Quack Doctor that has no business possessing a medical license, will treat you as though you are an inconvenience to him (even though there are literally no patients in the 1970s themed waiting room), and will misquote you the cost of your visit and then send the difference to a collection agency, then this office and Dr Wong are for you. The reviews don't lie - DO NOT GO THERE. If reviews would allow zero stars that is what I would give.

If I could give negative stars, I would. Dr Wong is the WORST doctor EVER. I went to him on Friday with COVID like symptoms but I had 2 negative test results. When I arrived at the office, he was the only one in the office and was answering phones. I checked in and he asked me my symptoms right there in the waiting room. He insisted it was COVID despite my proof of 2 recent negative tests. I waited about 10 mins while he answered 2 more phone calls. Then he finally asked about my insurance and then had to check something about my insurance. Mind you I had been having breathing trouble since I arrived and I've been a patient at this office for 15 years with the same insurance. Then he had trouble with my card for my copay. Finally after about 15 mins of my arrival, he took me to an exam room where he asked me symptoms again. He left to go get a device to check my oxygen levels but when he got back, he realized that it didn't work. So he left again to go get batteries. While he went to get batteries, a man came into the office and Dr. Wong started chatting with. Didn't sound like an emergency. It sounded like they were discussing a painting job. Finally, he checked my oxygen levels. Then he left to go get another machine to check my blood pressure. Then he realized that he that he didn't have his stethoscope. So he went back to get it. He came back and was just about to listen to my lungs. He had just lifted my shirt and started to put the round part on my back when the phone rang. He stopped to go answer the phone. That's when I had enough and said "Can you please just focus on my exam and finish it??" He said something about being the only one there. I said loudly "Shouldn't I take priority over someone on the phone??" He came back and started yelling at me saying something about him being the only one there, etc. I yelled at him saying that I came there for help because I don't feel well and he's done nothing to help me. I grabbed my purse and stormed out. He shoved my $10 copay at me while yelling to never come back. I opened the door yelling something like don't worry I'll never come back to this hell hole of an office and then slammed the door as I left. I will never go back there and I suggest you don't either.

I found this site from my insurance provider website which had great reviews of the doctor, unfortunately I think this was a different doctor than is currently there. I just walked out of my appointment because of how rude the doctor was talking to not only the receptionist but also people who called in while I was filling out forms. There was no way in hell I was getting in a room with that guy. Stay away from this place.

Dr Wong is the worst doctor ever! He seemed drunk and mentally unstable. Has anger management issues, Dressed unprofessional and smelled so bad. He was so rude .. all I went in was preventative medication because I will be traveling soon and he told me to go online research and tell him the medication to write the prescription. From my understanding it’s the doctors job to advice patient which medication to take. Idk who made him a doctor but he is definitely the worst doctor I ever had. Horrible plus took the money for co pay and didn’t give me medications and yelled at me and didn’t even properly checked me!

They send me a bill because they submitted my info to the insurance wrong and the insurance was waiting for them to clear up the mis communication.
They then proceed to send me a bill stating the insurance co. denied the claim when they didnt specifically deny anything. The dr office was just too lazy to sit on hold long enough to clear up the situation.

To top it off, i call the insurance to clear things up and figure out why they "denied my claim" only to find out that they requested the dr office to call them directly.
After calling the dr office they told ME to have MY INSURANCE to call THEM, and said "we cant sit on hold all day".
Im sorry that this is inconvenient for you, but billing and busywork comes with the territory. Thats why doctors dont do it and hire receptionists. I just am shocked by this lazy mentality.

This is the worst clinic in the entire world. Its sad that I have to still come here. Also, I am calling you at 430 PM and it clearly says you're open until 530 PM? Just when I thought this place couldnt get any worst.
All the comments about billing wrongly and collections? Dr. Wong being the worst kind of human on planet earth? A complete joke of a doctor and a human? Yeah, ALL true. Only doctor I still go here for is Dr. Asafa.

Have the same issue as others. Came here 4 years ago and just received notice that I am in collections. Never saw a bill nor did they contact me before going to collections. Insurance says they have no record of the visit and were never sent an invoice. Frustrating to say the least!

Made me come in to the office for results that could have been told to me over a 30 second phone call. They are now saying is an office visit not covered by my insurance, they claim I was there for some other reason other than just to get my results. Now I'm in dealing with debt collectors and trying to dispute this with my insurance company. DO NOT SUPPORT THESE UNETHICAL BUSINESS PRACTICES.

Similar to others here: they didn’t bother to process my insurance, told me it was denied - why would it have been? - and then passed me onto collections over $100.

Definitely don’t go here.
