The best care your pet could ever receive is at Burlingame Family Pet Hospital. The clinic is well organized, offers same day urgent care appointments, has a pharmacy with ability to compound medications onsite, and the most wonderful staff. The veterinarians are exceptional; experienced, caring, and trustworthy. I have been bringing my pug, Rose, to Drs. Rich and West, and they have taken the best care of her every single visit. From basic needs to allergies, chronic infections, and surgical procedures, there is no one I trust more to make the best medical decisions. The veterinarian technicians are amazing and always go above and beyond to help trim Rose’s nails (not an easy task) and the receptionists are always helpful in scheduling and making sure there is follow up. Best. Clinic. Ever. If you love your pet, bring them here.

1/28/24: Update to my original review. Now I can say I have worked with all three vets at this clinic and would continue to highly recommend. "Dr. Rich" Meisels had the very difficult job of diagnosing our 8-year old Berner Tux with two types of cancer. He walked us though a very emotional ending with compassion and dedication I will never forget. Literally, the kind of vet who gives his home number and shows up on his day off to free your pup from pain and lead him to the Rainbow Bridge. I'm a little reluctant to write this as it may not be their normal practice but this was our experience. I really believe this practice is going to go above and beyond for you and your furry loved ones.

Original post: Very friendly staff. Take time to establish rapport with animals. We have seen Dr. Hoppe and Dr. West and each took time to explain their recommendations. They do not recommend expensive tests unless needed. Highly recommend this practice.

With both the former practice and the new practice, my dogs have always been well taken care of. I bring in my personal dogs as well as my dog walking clients here. Care has been thorough and thoughtful. Thankful for Dr. Merrill for the many years of tending to our family’s dogs. Happy he’s retired now enjoying leisurely days. The transition over to our new vet, Dr. Hoppe has been great. Her gentle bedside manner and vast knowledge tells me my dogs are in good hands.

I have been taking my two puppies now dogs to Burlingame Family Pet Hospital ever since I first brought them home in October of 2022. Each employee at Burlingame Family Pet Hospital treats me and my pets with care and compassion. I would not recommend an individual at this facility, but I recommend the entire team. I trust that whichever vet I make an appointment with that day, my pet will have the best care possible.

The entire staff at Burlingame Family Pet Hospital are fantastic. Dr. Dorothy Hoppe is the best. She is not only a great doctor but takes the time to get to know not only your pet, but you. She listens, a rare quality among doctors of any type. The rest of the doctors are much the same. The administrative staff are always kind and helpful. I recommend this place highly.

I had the same Vet for 25 years, and when he retired Burlingame Family Pet Hospital had big, no, huge, shoes to fill. I am very please with the care my babies are getting there. I usually see Dr. Hoppe, but when she is out, there are other on-site Vets to step in during emergency situations. All of them have been kind, gentle with my cats, thorough with examinations, knowledgeable with care. I'm very happy here. Give them a try!

They are both very experienced and they definitely know not only how to examine your dog but also know how to handle and read them! my dog Lizzie is a little intense and looks scary sometimes... and when she barks you want to run away lol but she is a sweet girl. both vets handle her as if they known her forever. the staff is also very friendly and helpful.

we took our cats in for their annual exams and shots. Dr. West is very attentive and helpful and took time with them both to address their needs. The tech was excellent too - being very patient with the kitties and gentle when they got their shots. Highly recommend this practice.

This is the 3rd or 4th vet clinic we have visited with our cats in this area, trying businesses all the way from San Francisco to San Mateo. I am glad to say that the search is over: we decided to make Burlingame Family Pet Hospital our pet hospital / clinic / vet!

Their location is really convenient if you are in Millbrae or Burlingame. The clinic is cozy and clean, the staff is great, and Dr. Dorothy Hoppe is amazing! She cares about your pet, she cares about you as a pet owner, and she cares about her job. She's also honest, transparent and very pragmatic, which I like.

Finally, I appreciate it that I can do a lot online, like scheduling appointments and filling/ordering prescriptions.

Dr. Rich is amazing. Great dog bedside manner. Very responsive and patient. One suggestion: Get rid of the automated answering virtual assistant. Otherwise, great place.

They were able to take me in last minute. I wasn’t rushed, everyone is friendly & the Doctor was extremely helpful. She offered me several choices of treatment in different price ranges and explained the differences. She also showed me how I could save on the cost of the meds too. The staff was patient and friendly while giving my dog, Hambone, his shots and I wasn’t pressured at all about purchasing anything. I thought he needed a teeth cleaning & nail trim and she said no, he’s fine! So she’s definitely not out to charge big bucks on unnecessary services. I truly appreciate all her help and advice.

I definitely recommend Burlingame Family Pet hospital. Hambone was happy and excited the entire time. Most dogs are nervous and afraid of the vet. Hammer left and was super happy and running around being nosy the entire time. They truly care about animals and it shows 💕

My concerns and questions are always taken seriously and factored into my senior cat's care, and she is thriving as a result. Love this vet office, can't recommend them enough.

I was looking for a vet in the Bay Area that will value our family dog and our business more than our wallet. We needed a vet certification with a USDA sealed to be able to travel internationally. From the staff on the phone to the veterinarian and the techs, they all kindly and professionally asked me questions and listened to my concerns as a pet owner, treated my dog with care, and made us feel cared for. Our dog rarely relaxes in a vet clinic and she was able to relax here :)

Dr Hoppe is amazing! My dog has had toe issues for years and have been to other vets and specialists. It would get better but always get worse again. I was told he needed to have his toe amputated by a soft tissue expert, but got another opinion from Dr Hoppe. She recommended just amputating his toe nail. Everything has healed perfectly and he's has no issues since! His toe is a little ugly but he doesn't mind. Highly recommend.

Another great visit with Dr Hoppe. After trying other vet offices, I am really happy with Burlingame Family Pet Hospital. They even put up with my husky’s unnecessary drama.

I was referred to Burlingame Family Pet Hospital from our vet as an option to quickly see a veterinarian to receive some advice on end of life care for our sweet girl who was diagnosed with cancer back in December. I was very hesitant to go to a new and unfamiliar vet, but I was desperate as our sweet girl started declining in a matter of days. Dr. West and staff handled us with so much compassion and care, I left the office feeling much better about our path forward. For me it is the best, before I have a cat and I went to white hospital in San Bruno it was not only frustrated but sad situations, Masson hospital I’m not sure it is bcs only those two hospitals in SB but it was sad I feel finally we are in the save veterinary clinic Than you Very Much

Responsive and kind staff, down to earth knowledgeable doctors. My dogs are large and having a vet that welcomes and understands large breeds is a comfort.
