Great beer hall, excellent, juicy sausages, well seasoned dishes (saucy!) and freshly fried goodies - fried chicken sandwich was thicc and glad it was paired with a refreshing chickpea salad. Would recommend the curry wurst for any first timer and it comes with a hefty portion of potatoes - seared and crispy. Good selection of local beers. Wish there'd be more sours and ciders on tap!

Classic German beer hall interior design, with German food items on the menu, as well as new American food items. Wide selection of beers, with friendly and efficient service. Great location in downtown San Mateo, close to the train station. Plenty of parking lots to choose from, all within a short walking distance.

Finally visited Kenji Lopez’s restaurant. We came the hour before closing and they let us sit down and eat. We ordered the Mai Tai IPA, the Chocolate Mousse Nitro Stout, the Pastrami Bratwurst with a side of Parmesan potato chips, my partner ordered the smashburger with thrice fried potatoes. And we also got Kenji’s spicy fried chicken bites to share. The Mai Tai ipa was good with a slight touch of sweetness, the chocolate mousse was delicious and tasted like a concentrated mocha coffee I’ve had before but alcoholic—very unique beers. The spicy fried chicken was the perfect bite size, there are dry seasoning on the bites but there’s also a filling my sauce. It was moist and tender on the inside and crunchy on the outside, seasoned very well with a spicy kick to it. The smash burger had a thick pretzel bun but it actually worked really well because it inflated when we pushed it down. There are fresh onions and cabbage in the smash burger which gives it a refreshing bite, we’ve never had burgers with cabbage and onions. We did salt the patty a little bit just because we prefer it salted, we had to ask for salt from the kitchen. The thrice fried potatoes were so good, crunchy on the outside and soft and intact on the inside. The Pastrami wurst was in this sweet butter lobster roll bun, perfectly toasted. The pastrami wurst was really delicious, it’s soft and doesn’t have more of the bite a wurst usually has. I prefer it soft but my partner wished it had more of a bite. The Parmesan potato chips were delicious and actually like a chip—I’ve had it in other places where it was soft in the middle or soggy. This was perfect. The staff were super nice to us and the service was amazing. You order and pay everything via QR code on your phone. We can’t wait to come back to try the other items on the menu.

Unique flavours including ample options for vegan/vegetarian . The ambience immediately sets a stage for a German dining experience. The plant based vegan sausage had a satisfying texture. The salads were also very flavourful.
The devil's egg dish had a perfect balance of creaminess and texture.

Our visit to Wursthall in San Mateo was a blast! With vibrant decor (especially in the clever cocktail bar downstairs) and a welcoming atmosphere, it's a hit with kids. The menu offers a wide range of tasty options for all ages. What sets it apart is the entertainment - our kids were kept busy with coloring at the kids table and there's just enough space for active little kiddos to run around. We highly recommend Wursthall for a lively and enjoyable dining experience.

Surprisingly family friendly restaurant where parents can enjoy a top notch beer without feeling guilty about their kids tagging along. Ordering is through QR codes (with photos!!!) so you don't need to flag anyone over and food comes out quickly. There's a kids menu and a small area where kids can draw after their meals...!!! Staff are attentive and friendly so we always have a good time here.

Menu has lots of vegan and veggie options (impossible meats, dinner salads, and a nice cabbage side), which is notable for a sausage restaurant. The brownie dessert is HUGE and could easily be shared amongst 4 people.

Great place to catch up and hang with friends. The food is quite tasty. Don’t sleep on the potatoes or the chicken bites. The beer selection is robust for whatever adventure you choose! (Even n/a options). Personally I always go with the crispy Pilsner.

The smash burger was incredible! I came around 3:30 pm on a Friday and the place was mostly empty.

The environment is open with some tables and benches like a beer hall. There is a QR code on the table to order your food and drinks. And then staff brings your stuff over. Easy and chill operation.

I tried the famous smash burger with three times fried potatoes. The burger was so delicious with their house grind blend of beef – it had a nice clean and beefy flavor. The burger with saucy, but in a good way with the garlic mayo.

Overall, I’d come here again definitely for the smash burger but next time I think I want to try the fried chicken sandwich

Fun, lively atmosphere. Fully staffed with smiling friendly servers. Lots of seating, in and out. I would call this German fusion. Creative combos of flavors and seriously goos sausage and bratwurst. Highly recommend the fresh warm pretzel and honey butter. Yum!

We randomly stopped in to have a thinking snack and drink one night and glad we did. The lemon radler is delish 🤤 and the pretzel was good too! The person that helped us the most was amazing, and gave great recommendations!

Went with co-workers to say farewell to an awesome colleague. With that said, the food was awesome. Beer list is also quite extensive with the majority German but also local brews.

Seating available outside and inside. Inside seating is well ventilated. Highly recommend.

I checked out Wursthall while visiting from Chicago with my family. I'm a big fan of Kenji's recipes, so dining at his restaurant was on my must-do list.

I had read some negative reviews, and I'm quite picky, so I set my expectations low. Boy was I wrong.

We sat at the kids table in the back, which worked out perfectly. My kids (2 and 5) were extremely tired, so having our own space made it much easier. They got to color on a big sheet of paper while my husband and I enjoyed our drinks and appetizer. They had tiny kindergarten chairs and we sat on the block on the opposite side of the table. It wasn't super comfortable for the adults, but I would still sit there again because of how well it worked out with the kids.

We started with the Korean-style chicken and waffles. The chicken made me think of Kenji's Chick-fil-A copycat recipe with different spices. The waffle was unique with a little bit of sweet and savory. It was a perfect blend of sweet, spicy, savory, and sour with the pickles.

We shared the Little Gem salad. It's their version of a Caesar salad. It's rare to find a salad that's perfectly seasoned. I'm pretty sure they even salted the lettuce, which IMO, makes it so much better.

Knowing we would be getting full after two appetizers, we decided to share the vegan doner kebap. It was my first time having anything Impossible ™, and I can't believe I waited so long. I seriously wouldn't know the difference. I also loved the onions and cabbage that came with it.

My kids shared the spaetzle and potato salad from the kids menu. The little one gobbled up the spaetzle, and my pickle-loving 5 year old liked the potato salad. The potato salad has gotten some bad reviews, but I loved it. I would definitely get that again for myself. I let them order the kids brownie. One was big enough for all four of us to share considering we were so full.

Service was very almost perfect. The server even laughed at my terrible jokes. A few other employees helped out when he was busy.

A very minor complaint- the food came out almost too fast. We had only eaten a few bites of the appetizer before the salad and kebap came out. Not a big deal at all, but it might have been a problem with space if we had been sitting at the regular tables.

This was the first time I've been to Wursthall, but it certainly won't be the last! I wasn't too sure about this place at first due to the price of their meals, but I was blown away by how delicious it was! They have various types of sausages that come with unique toppings. The flavors work so well together especially when paired with one of their beers. They have plenty of seats for outdoor dining, and they allow you to order through an app so it makes getting your meal extra quick!

Food is delicious and prices are great! The service was great and there is ample space for parties of all sizes. Watched a basketball game here. Great atmosphere.

Great casual scene to chill after work and eat.
Smashburger may not stand out because but it's pretty darn good- two thin patties that you can customize with lettuce, spread, etc.
Chicken pesto on a sliced bun is pretty good along with the potatoes as your side.
They have an obscene number of beer on tap.

Our company had organized a private event at this place on a Wednesday evening and I was surprised to walk into a fairly packed German Beer hall at 6:30 on a Wednesday!

We got the private upstair seating where 14 of us were easily seated in a fairly warm beer hall. Airconditioning wasn't that effective, but our host, Ray, was kind enough to open the back door ensure some cross ventilation which definitely helped.

Needless to say, their beer hall had an extensive list of beers and all pilsners and lagers came in half liter or a liter option. I wish gthere was a 16 oz option on pilsners because by the time I could finish my beer, it would get warmish. I thoroughly enjoyed the Russian River Pils ($8) and the Temescal Pils ($8).

For appetizers, our table ordered Deviled Eggs ($7), Spaetzle & Cheese ($9), Kenji's Korean Hot Chicken Bites ($11) - all of which were amazing. Being a Vegetrian, I got the Impossible Turkish-ish Sausage ($16). My sausage was severly overcooked, so I did not really enjoy the taste of the sausage, but my Chickpea & Carrot Salad side was absolutely delicious!

Service was excellent all throughout, and Ray, our server/host, was very friendly and welcoming.

Highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to have some good beers and bratwurst!

My 14 yr old recommended this place because he’s been watching the chef online on his food prep. He said that the chef is an Architect&Biology graduate from MIT.
Food+Science+Architect=Extraordinarily Yummy! Customer service is great!

It was honestly the best restaurant I’ve been to in the Bay Area. Service was quick, place was clean, and everything about the food was done right. The bratwurst was so juicy and broke off like butter, the smashburger was cooked perfectly. I’ve also never had potatoes done this well. Fills up quite quick around noon.

Excellent food, friendly staff, quick service! Stopped here for dinner on the way home from the beach. Both indoor and outdoor seating available and you scan the barcode to order food (the staff brings it to the table). We both ordered the wurst which was excellent. The potato salad was particularly delicious which surprised as I've only ever had more mayo based potato salad. The triple fried potatoes were good but basically square french fries. If I could have ordered a bag of the pretzel pieces that they put on the brownie, I definitely would have. The bathrooms are a bit tricky to get to and kind of in a scary hallway but it all worked out. Highly recommend!
