My recent experience at this medical center for dermatology treatment surpassed all my expectations. The dermatologist was not only highly knowledgeable but also approachable and attentive to my concerns. The treatment plan provided was effective, and the quality of care was evident in the visible improvement of my skin condition. Furthermore, the value for the comprehensive dermatological services offered was truly exceptional. I highly recommend this medical center to anyone looking for exceptional dermatology care.

My family had a medical emergency early last week and the San Mateo Medical Center was the only place that had urgent care that was open 24hours.
The whole team helped us immediately. They were very kind and professional. They checked every vital, they kept an good eye on us and they even let a visitor stay for a while (even tho' you're not supposed to have visitors in urgent care).
Both our initial care nurse (who's name I have unfortunately misplaced) and our overnight nurse (Ebony) were excellent as was Dr Johnston.
The place felt safe and secure. The admissions clerk at the front desk explained everything to us and answered all my questions and the triage nurse was very thorough in assessing our situation.

Was in there last night with my son after a scary fall. Everyone from the intake person , triage nurse , ER nurse, doctor, orderly that brought him to radiology and the radiology tech was AWESOME. And it was getting hectic in there. I am a NP myself and they were thorough, explained everything, entertained my scared son’s questions and I witnessed even how they approached other patients of every walk of life. They gave excellent care to everyone. It’s a county hospital- lots of different cases, they are incredibly efficient, competent and caring. And - the wait was actually a lot shorter than I anticipated for such a busy night.

Update, 1/23/24. Stars still stay!:) Mom had to be admitted. Take care of her daily and wanted a night off…. but couldn’t rest not talking to her. Nurse in 2A made it happen with the phone, entirely polite and helpful! Ease my mind, moms said no worries. All is well.
Thanks, SMMC!!!
Just came from my second trip to the ER and I don’t know what everybody’s problem is but this place is great !!! I was seen quickly. Nurses and NP, were awesome, (and pretty;-). (Ariana n Catrina:)
Took care of my needs, gave exactly what I wanted. I was out of there in an hour .
For Rob Robinson:
I was/been in a panic getting my moms meds in order post-stroke. The facility answers their phone and while it took a minute to get my concerns resolved…. It is being resolved!🙏 Thats all one can ask for. Elyna/Elaina is awesome. Gracias!!!

First time visiting the SMMC ED and was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. Was first greeted by the security guard at the door who had to screen me. He then was nice enough to ask me if I knew where to go for registration and walked me over to the window. From there on starting with registration to intake nurse, PA, Attending, guy who wheeled me to take X-ray/cat scan, X-ray tech all greeted me with a smile and also gave me extra blankets without me asking. Everyone I came in contact with during my visit made me feel more at ease when I was feeling nervous and anxious. I never write reviews and felt the need to write one about all the wonderful medical professionals at this ED. They truly deserve to be acknowledged for all they do for the community. Thank you!!

I brought a relative into the emergency room. Lupita and Melissa were extremely helpful and had a supportive calm presence when assisting my relative with their needs. I was pleasantly surprised with our experience and appreciative of the service we received.

San Mateo Medical Center is a small, humble public hospital. They gave me excellent care today when I checked in with severe pain which was quickly diagnosed as an impacted colon. The staff is kind, helpful and experienced. I received top notch medical care.
I live in the Seattle area and my nearby hospital (Swedish Issaquah) has a meditation garden, a Starbucks, a grand piano in the lobby which is played regularly, art work, a fireplace for family to sit by while waiting, free wifi, a delicious cafeteria, etc. etc. etc.
But none of that mattered when the excellent San Mateo staff solved my painful condition and quickly resolved it with treatment. There are many spanish speaking staff and patients. The staff offers kind, thorough, professional care in a humble environs. I would go back and suggest you try them.

I just had an MRI scan @ SMMC that I had been postponing for a long time due to being claustrophobic.
Staff was on time & friendly Plus it turns out, they have a new Larger tube . . . ;- )
There is now enough space going in to not feel trapped .
Thank You, Thank You SMMC

Emergency Room visit started with a friendly a thorough intake. Then saw an intake nurse who was also friendly and obtained my information, blood pressure, temp...

Taken to a private room, reviewed symptoms with nurse. Nurse was very friendly and took blood for lab. Readied me for doctor.

Then Doctor came got to the bottome. Explained the plan including some tests to be done on premise.

Left awaiting tests, got prescription filled on site.

Everybody, even the security guard was friendly, courteous and skilled at their job.

Very grateful! This is a county hospital and shows its age but clean and for me prrfect!

Its easy for people to write a bad review about the place. But many may not know or care that this is a County Hospital. Not some fancy schmancy Place. With that being said, All the free operations and free care I got here have always been good. The Doctors and Nurses are knowledgeable, not fresh out of school like at Kaiser. This County Hospital is for sure better than any Kaiser Hospital. Yes the call service is not good and the waiting times are long. County Hospitals are free or low cost care. I think i made my point. Thank you for the free care i received here over the years.

Best ER I've had the honor of going to. The staff was caring and kind beyond all expectations even though
It was really busy. Special thanks to nurse Julia and Dr. Julie for taking fantastic care of me despite trying to take all my blood. Also I was there for 11 hours and never neglected.

We cannot speak more highly of the San Mateo Medical Center staff and experience. We went for a Covid booster and from our first interaction till the last we were impressed by their kindness, efficiency and attention to detail. I cannot speak more highly of the team and how effective, courteous and responsive they were. Thank you!

Writing specifically about my ER experience from having a severe allergic reaction to Poison Oak. I’ll spare you on the why and how it happened but I’m compelled to write this review out of the genuine love and care I received this week from this group, during two separate visits.

The whole staff, from intake all the way up to my new favorite ER Dr were amazing!

Side note, The SMC Sheriff on duty was awesome as well.

They’re really organized, work as a team, are well informed and provide exceptional care. I witnessed this at all levels of their services, both for myself and the other patients around me. The professionalism was second to none.

To all of you at SMMC ER, my family and I can not thank you enough for all that you do. I hope not to be back anytime soon but I’ll always recommend you guys and trust if I need help again, you’ll be there.

Stay safe, happy and healthy 🤙🏼

Let me tell ya. These folks are amazing. My experience was crappy in the beginning, I'm alone with severe abdominal pain, never used the ER before. Had to park offsite and walk due to crowding. Got in, gave info, got checked in all within 30 mins. Saw a doctor 1.5hrs from admission and the nurses/doctor have just been incredible though. So thoughtful and thorough and kind. I appreciate their hard work in helping me and everyone here. I know wait times suck, but the people working here really care and are doing their best with what they have. #medicareforall please!

A great hospital. It's kind of small compared to other medical centers or hospitals that I had the unfortunate occasion to frequent. This out there is very professional, attentive, you need to be focused on what is transpiring there at the moment instead of distracted with something else. They are very forthcoming and personable. I would recommend going there to anyone.

I have no complaints about San Mateo Medical Center. I found the best doctor here.....10 years ago and he's still my doctor.
Here is a suggestion from me, go to the cafeteria and have lunch or breakfast. Delicious!

I've been a patient here a couple of times over the years. At the moment I am finishing up a week stay for amputation due to diabetes. They have changed their game up since the last time I was here years ago not to mention how everything's much newer and nurses are much more personable they are seem to be better trained and quite frankly a great bunch of people. I'm on the second floor and they are all great. the food I would give three but then again I am on a low-carb low-sugar the truth Karen disgusting diet. I'm trying to get out of here today but it seems like your menstruation getting me some money to go home and take care of myself and have home nursing. I was only supposed to be here I gave it to you now I realize all this is due to the fact I don't care and we pretty well here I am not that I'm sad to go but my memories will be good. Congratulations on San Mateo making it not a terrible place to be special note to Mel she is by far the best I've ever had and if I can remember I've had probably 40 not just now but other times parking sucks but it is a hospital that it's a lot of different kind of patients are differ
ent kind of problems practiced a lot of these things. Vikings kicking in coming to the break oh one more thing I complained about my roommate watching too much TV area noisy and they move me to a private room how great is that really good people and also getting better and I give him a 5 thanks guys. Calling some of the nurses are real Lookers. Thanks again

Did the walk in Covid booster here. There was one lady handing out the registration form who was just incredibly cheerful and welcoming. It was a long wait (a Saturday) but she made it much more pleasant.
