Rural Supply Hardware

I often describe hardware stores as toy stores for middle aged family men and this place is the KayBee of local hardware stores. Staff is helpful, the goods offered are varied and of good quality. It's also very convenient that it's located just on the south end of Los Gatos. If you live on one of the nearby mountains you can be in and out without the hassles of traffic in the town proper. As an added bonus the USPS office is right across the street.

This place almost closed down. I was heartbroken. Great inventory and staff.

Sometimes there are more experienced-looking people (yes, I mean older! ;-)) in there, but often it’s younger high-schoolers. But they know their stuff! I don’t know another business who has such helpful young people who know where to find everything in the store! As a business owner myself, I’m jealous they have such good training. I try, but teach me!

I went there for a few parts for home repair. I stayed to watch the baby chicks, browse all the useful gadgets, and just otherwise enjoy the ambiance. This is a great hardware store for small and large projects alike and really friendly atmosphere.

Amazingly well-stocked local hardware and industrial supply store located in downtown Los Gatos. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. This is now my go-to place for specialty plumbing and electrical pieces. I was also impressed with the prices; I was surprised that for the dozen or so items I checked, they were competitive with Amazon and the big stores like Home Depot. Highly recommended.

This is my "general store" hardware supply when making a stop between overland expeditions.. On first visit all 10 items on my "if I see it buy it" list were there and easy to find with helpful employees; usually I might find 3 on the list in a typical hardware store..

Small but excellent. Surprisingly good selection for a small local shop. Parking around the side. Excellent technical help too. If you're over 65, simply ask to receive a 10% discount on any purchase.

Imagine walking into a big box hardware store looking for just the right part to finish a job. Even if you’re lucky enough to find someone knowledgeable, there’s no way they’ll sell you a single rubber washer for fifteen cents.

For that kind of old fashioned service, just head to Rural Supply in downtown Los Gatos. Brothers Ken and Tim Nelson have built a successful business over the decades catering to local do-it-yourselfers just like me. They’ll answer your questions and offer advice even if you don’t buy anything. I also like the fact that they employ local kids in the summer and year round.

Small neighborhood hardware stores like this are a dying breed. I try to support local businesses whenever I can, so I make it a point to shop at Rural Supply whenever I need anything for my home or garden. You should too!

This is a business I have been frequenting for 50 years. Ken and Tim are the two owners and you couldn't ask for more help than they will give you when you're looking for something. Definitely a Los Gatos five star business!

Rural Supply is a throwback to the hardware stores of my youth. I have been going there for years and have always had great customer service.
I'd like to share an example....Several years ago me and some of the other dads were changing out the lights on the Baseball scoreboard at LGHS and we needed an extension ladder...I ran over to RSH and found the ladder we needed, as I was checking out, the owner Tim asked me what I was doing, as we were talking he asked me how was I going to get that ladder back to the school...well, I hadn't thought about that and without hesitation he said "Take my truck" and flipped me the keys...now he didn't know me from Adam at the time but he loaned a stranger his truck to get the job done and gained a loyal customer for life!

One of the last hardware stores with old-time service where you walk in and ask anything you want. For over 20 years I've known Tim and Ken Nelson who've owned the store. Honest, trustworthy - they'll sell you what you need and talk you through the job if you need it. In addition to hardware, all basic needs for farm and rural living sold here as well.

This hardware store is conveniently located downtown, so you can run other errands or grab coffee and lunch in one trip. The staff is friendly and helpful. When I was pregnant, the cashier carried my items to my car.

Got a chimney sweep brush and extension poles at Rural Supply.
Also had keys cut on custom reproduction "Ford Mustang" blanks I brought in.
Also got numbered drill bits.
Great place and good help.
Can't get these items at the big home supply stores.

Going to Rural Supply is nothing like going to Home D. Its a step back in time to when real hardware men knew their business and their customers. Not minimum wage generic employees with limited knowledge.
While they do carry all the latest stuff, they also keep some of the older, hard to find items. That is key if you have an older home.
True, the prices may be a touch higher than HD, but you can easily get specific advice to go along with your purchase. That is priceless.

The owner is very knowledgable and ready to give tips on what i need to do/buy to complete my job. I usually explain my task rather than ask for a specific thing since i never know what the dohicky that fixes the whatchamacallit is properly named. Also perfectly willing to refer me to a big box if they dont have the part. The staff of mostly highschool kids (if you miss the owner) is more helpful than my big box experiences too. I always try here first.

Great selection and great customer service

The selection is incredible. It's so small but I'm usually more likely to go here than Lowes/HD/etc... for something I really need . Also more likely to go here if I need help understanding or finding something. No place I know has an overall friendlier and more helpful staff that sure seems to GENUINELY WANT TO HELP you.
