Marcela’s skin and talent go above and beyond what I’ve received from other salons. I’d recommend this place to anyone I know. Her assistant was also very friendly and knowledgeable on styling my hair. Can’t say enough good things about this business!!

Marcela is amazing, she gave me a haircut I never new I needed and it has been very easy to replicate the styling at home! Her assistant was very kind and walked me through each step to get my hair styled. Absolutely am loving this curly cut!

Marcela is *amazing*. I have a TON of naturally curly hair, and used to drive to Napa to get it cut by someone I trusted. I took a chance on Marcela and have never looked back. I love my hair color of now, and the way she cuts my hair means I can go months between appointments - and my hair still looks great! Cannot recommend Curls enough. 😊

Marcela is an artist, not just a stylist, she was intense and focused! She cares about what she does and she changed me for the best, I will never go to anyone else! Curly hair girls rock! Sierra, rocks too, great pairing! Sierra was also amazing and caring!

Curly hair is complicated. Marcella is the first stylist in my 40+ years on this earth to give me a truly great haircut. It's worth the trouble and every penny.

Marcela is excellent! She has astonishing attention to detail, my hair always looks amazing after a visit. She's also personable so we always have lots to chat about each time she cuts my hair. :)

If you have curly hair, even if you don't, this is the best hair salon in the Bay Area! Marcela is a magician who can take frizzy, ugly hair and make it look like you stepped out of a fashion magazine. She gets curly hair like no one else and is a pleasure to visit!

The cut & products I am now appreciating, has saved my hair & I am learning to love my curls & to make an effort to take care of my hair. So far, a month in, and I have not pulled out the flat iron or a large barrel curling iron. So far, so good!

TL;DR - Marcella is skilled at cutting curly hair, but she is very poor at running her business. The amount due fluctuates at her discretion. She fails to seek your consent prior to taking your before-and-after photos.

1. She takes before-and-after photos of you, but never once does she seek your consent.
2. Her appointment length is unpredictable. She takes her time with giving you a perfect haircut, but this is a double-edged sword. If she takes longer than she anticipates, then she charges you an extra amount at her discretion on the spot.
3. She had strong opinions / complaints on how I care for my hair. She has a way with her words and a level of assertiveness that made me feel almost guilty for my natural hair. At times, it also felt culturally insensitive as using certain hair care products can be a common practice among certain cultures.
4. Here was my biggest turn off. Marcella did "wet haircuts" (i.e. 1st wash hair, then cut it) on all my previous visits. One time she instructed me to shampoo my hair from home. At the time of payment, I was shocked that the amount was almost $100 more than the normal rate! Upon asking, she said she did a "dry haircut" on me (i.e. 1st cut, then wash). This was a switch-and-bait. She instructed me to wash my hair from home, then immediately started cutting it at the salon. She never discussed and sought my consent to the change of service and its higher rate. Washing the hair first or last is such a subtle difference that I didn't notice it during the service to ask. I tried to work it out with her, but she was very determined to charge me the higher rate at the salon. She remained unresponsive afterwards. (I did a charge back on my credit card and got the excess amount reimbursed.)

She has left my daughter in tears not once but twice now. The first time, Marcela didn't listen all that well to her requests but I thought the cut turned out cute so I brushed off my daughters disappointment in the cut and convinced her to go again for a trim (even though my 17 yo daughter was scared to go alone because she said Marcela was "mean"). For her second visit, she never even made it through the door as Marcela cancelled the appointment ~30 minutes before the scheduled time. Marcela called 1 hour before the appointment when I couldn't answer the phone and apparently decided that was enough reason to fill the slot with someone else. When I called, absolutely shocked she had filled our time slot with such little warning, she exclaimed that she is trying to run a business. Sadly, disappointing your clients, arbitrarily cancelling appointments with little warning, and generally being unprofessional and rude is no way to run a business.

Be prepared to pay too much and get bad service. Marcela had cut my hair for a few years. Despite having an unreliable assistant and running late on several appointments, I kept giving her my business. The last time she cut my hair, I asked her to touch it up since it wasn't laying quite right. I was paying a lot of money for a haircut and with curly hair, sometimes you need to take another pass through. I was polite and I thanked her and gave her an extra large tip for the extra few min she spent on me. Apparently that offended her because she told me to find another stylist when I tried to get another appointment months later. Do yourself a favor and find a more reliable stylist.
