Golden State Family Dentistry/Fara Shahani DMD

Our family of four had been going to Dr. Van Der Wilt since 2010 and we really liked his expertise and bedside manner. So when we found out that he was retiring and his practice was being taken over by another doctor, we were very skeptical about the new dentist. But Dr. Fara Shahani took no time to allay those fears. She takes her time with her patients to connect with them at both personal and professional levels. Dr. Shahani has never tried to unnecessarily insist on any procedure. She discusses the cost factor for any suggested procedure and her friendly staff calls the insurance company if her patients want more information. Dr. Shahani has been kind, friendly and very professional and we would recommend her any day!

Dr Shahani became my dentist after she took over the practice of a wonderful dentist I saw for over 20 years. She is exceptional and recommend her without reservation - a fabulous dentist...meticulous, expert, kind, and willing to do whatever is needed to be sure her patients get the best possible service. I have many difficult dental problems and she has tackled every one of them successfully. There have been no surprises about the billing; she works with my insurance and the staff is clear about what I should expect. I give her and her office a 5+ rating!

2021 Fara Shahani has been treating me and my family since 2017. Today she placed a beautiful crown on what had been an older cracked molar with leaking silver fillings. I appreciated seeing not just X-rays, but photos of this tooth, and an explanation of the process and need to replace. Fara showed me the tooth with a mirror after she removed old fillings, before she applied the temporary crown. That was 2 weeks ago, today she removed the temporary and replaced it with a beautiful permanent crown.
Just last Fall she evened out the bottom of my two front teeth that had become jagged with wear. They look and feel totally natural and make me feel younger.
11/11/2023 My husband and I, now on Medicare are no longer covered by dental insurance but we like Fara so much we are paying full price rather than find another dentist. Today I got to meet 3 month old Katie---so alert and adorable! Visit the bright, cheerful office space on Alma Street!

Just had the best dental cleaning. So gentle but yet thorough. Also a very thorough exam and a treatment plan. Wonderful experience!

Dr. Fara Shahani is the greatest dentist I have ever seen. She and the entire staff are incredibly kind and welcoming. Dr. Shahani goes out of her way to provide excellent patient care. I have seen her for fillings and wisdom teeth extractions. In both cases, she gave me all my options, was communicative of what she was doing, walked me through my insurance coverage, and made sure the procedures were as painless as possible. I highly recommend Dr. Shahani for your dental care.

Dr. Shahani is an excellent dentist. She extracted 2 wisdom teeth, and I experienced very little discomfort. She put a crown on another tooth which went very smoothly. She's also very thorough in her regular exams and uses the latest techniques. Her hygienists and office staff are also wonderful and very helpful. Dr. Shahani cares about her patients and follows up after procedures with timely phone calls. I feel very confident with her care.

Dr Shahani is a very skilled dentist and understands overall dental health. I had 2 highly recommended dentists try and correct a problematic tooth over a two year period. Dr Shahani corrected the “bite” on my tooth and my problem was gone!! Since then I’ve had a filling and a crown done and I’m very pleased with her work. I was kept comfortable, and her skill administering anesthesia is superb. She is a wonderful, caring person. I travel over 45 miles to visit her office, and it is well worth it!!

Dr. Shahani and her staff have worked on replacing my older cavities with crowns for the past couple years and have been really helpful in working with my insurance to maximize my benefits. She takes the time to ensure the work is done right the first time and is really sensitive about following up to ensure that everything is comfortable and pain free. I am impressed with the latest equipment and she takes the time to show and explain what the procedure is so that I am always in the know...it may be the engineer in me, but I appreciate the effort. I would highly recommend Dr. Shahani and her staff to work and get your teeth in working order!

I have been going to this office for years, along with my wife and two sons. I had mixed feelings when I learned that my original dentist was planning to retire, but it turns out that he must have found and hand picked a Dr. Fara Shahani for his clients. Dr. Shahani has brought in more advanced equipment, but still holds to his policy of honesty by consulting with clients before carrying out any work. I have spoken with other dentists about Dr. Shahani, and they have confirmed what seemed apparent to me: She is Extremely Capable, and has the humility to know when it makes more sense to call in a specialist to assure that each client gets the best service possible. In my own case, this has included replacement caps, as well as an implant for an abscessed tooth. Not only did Dr. Shahani find a top notch Dentist to handle a rather tricky implant for a front tooth, but she went out of her way to find an excellent lab to create the crowns. I am confident these crowns will last for years. In addition to this, Dr. Shahani continues to hire wonderful staff, who are delightful to meet, and every client I see in the office seems to leave with a smile. I highly recommend Dr. Shahani and her office for anyone looking for a responsible Dentist, who places importance on healthy and attractive teeth.

Dr. Fara Shahani and her team Andrea are very nice, friendly and kind. Dr. Shahani really enjoy taking care of patients and care about patients. She always greets me with a big smile and I could see her smile despite the mask. She also got the finesse and attention to details. She would always remember to put lip balm on my lips before any cleaning or surgery which helps to keep my lips moisturized and not cracking up, she is the first one to do it. I've had many dentists and none of them would do that and I always ended up with dry lips or even cracked up lips which bleeds. So she is very sweet and kind and she is definitely on the top of my choice.

Dr. Fara Shahani provides excellent quality and gentle dental care. She's great with clients, especially clients with anxiety during dental treatments. She makes you let go of all your worries. Her dental touch and expertise is very reassuring. Dr. Fara and staff are also super clean. It's always a delight to hear from her with follow-up calls from any dental treatment. The staff is comforting and friendly. The hygienist Lori is wonderful, very thorough and informative. Andrea is very helpful with any insurance questions. Cute, quiet office has an very relaxing feel. Love the art work in the reception room, and the free available parking in a nice quiet area is always wonderful. GREAT satisfaction from any dental work I've received with intra-oral photos every step of way.

Dr. Shahani replaced two of my teeth with crowns and both have worked out beautifully, they feel and look like my originally teeth without the fillings. Additionally, Dr. Shahani truly cares about the overall well being of her patients. I highly recommend her.

Dr. Shahani is a very special dentist because not only is she a highly educated and knowledgeable in her field, but she also has a very gentle touch and an amazing bedside manner.
I feel at ease right away when entering her clean, organized office filled with beautiful orchids. Her office has great energy and her staff is efficient and polite.
Dr. Shahani is a very hands-on dentist. She is not the type of dentist that walks in, takes a look at your teeth and then leaves the room to let her staff do the rest of the work. She is there the entire time, working along side her staff and explaining each step she takes as she completes the treatment plan.
When I started to see her she asked me how often I flossed. Embarrassed, I admitted that I rarely flossed at all. She explained how important it was to floss (as I've heard a million times before) but what was so cool was that she gave me an idea of how to incorporate it into my daily routine. She said while you are conditioning your hair in the shower, floss your teeth. It clicked!! And worked for me:) Now I floss my teeth every day and have become somewhat addicted to it! It's not all messy and gross too, because I'm doing it in the shower. I thought this was a brilliant tip and has probably saved me many future fillings!
I highly recommend this practice if you want quality care with high standards and genuinely nice people that care about what they do, which sadly can be hard to find sometimes these days!!!

Just returned from another dental appointment with Dr. Shahani and her staff, this time during the covid-19 pandemic. I was very impressed with the safety precautions taken and felt safe and comfortable the entire time. I was asked to wait outside until called in. Before entering, my temperature was taken and I was then asked to wash my hands. I didn’t take my mask off until the dental work started. Dr. Shahani wore a disposable gown, gloves, N95 masks, and face shield. All this while delivering her usual expertise in a caring manner.

I’m very happy with the quality of care I receive from Dr. Shahani. I’ve been with her for over two years, when my family dentist retired. I find Dr. Shahani to be highly skilled with a gentle touch and always concerned for my comfort not only for routine cleaning, but also for more involved procedures as when a crown needed replacing. She correctly identified an underlying problem, thus preventing worse issues. Dr. Shahani is also attentive to detail, very clean, professional, warm and friendly, as is her staff.

Dr Shahani is very knowledgeable and experienced and I think after I started seeing her I have less issues with my teeth. She makes sure that you are taking of your teeth.
She does everything possible to save your tooth and avoid other drastic options. I can say the same thing about hygienists that work there. They are very meticulous. Her staff is very pleasant, professional and helpful. I highly recommend Dr. Shahani.

I have had a great experience with Dr. Shahani and her team. They have done quality work and are very considerate towards COVID precautions and my comfort during our appointments. I have never had a dentist that applies chapstick throughout a procedure, just goes to show that extra step they take to make sure their patients are taken care of.

I have been coming to see Dr. Shahani since she took over for Dr. Van Der Wildt. Her and her staff are very friendly and professional. With any new dentist, you want to make sure that you aren't being conned into a procedure that you might not need. Dr. Shahani takes those worries away. She takes her time while working and goes over any costs before performing any procedure. Her tools and equipment seem to always be of the latest technology, allowing for a more pleasant dental visit (think less scraping!!.) I saw her today in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, and Dr. Shahani has done a wonderful job at adhering to the CDC guidelines to keep everyone safe and only allowing one patient inside at a time, while also maintaining a friendly, welcoming environment for her patients. I would recommend Dr. Shahani and her skilled dental work to anyone.

Golden State Family Dentistry is amazing! I've had a few visits now and their office has cutting edge dental technology my previous dentists did not have. They spent a lot of time talking to me about preventative care not just treatment. Dr. Shahani has wonderful bedside manner and explains everything thoroughly.

I am updating my previous review because I do really want to support this local dentist office! Fara and her staff have kept an outstanding practice open through COVID-19 and despite being very busy are able to make room for emergency like my broken tooth this week 🦷 Fara is always very clear in explaining dental issues and pick the best option. I trust this business 200%

Why should I add yet another five stars to this dentist office? Simply because Fara and her little staff are great!! Friendly, professional, even humored, they make the experience truly pleasant.

Dr. Fara is a very caring and considerate dentist who explains what care is needed in advance. The care plan is backed up with photographs and a full explanation of the treatment plan. I have always received estimates of the insurance coverage and my copayment responsibility before any work is done.
Strongly recommend her and the quality of her work. I find her to be a very capable and ethical Doctor.
