I was in the market for a low-mileage, reliable, errand vehicle, but really wanted a small pickup truck for my Dad, who's moving in with me in a couple weeks. I came across Ocean Motorsports in one of my searches, then checked their website for inventory. I'm in Aptos, so a smaller, local dealer was exactly what I was looking for. I noticed quickly they only have clean, LOW mileage vehicles for sale, and the listings are clearly described with pics and all pertinent info. I saw a nice-looking 2011 Ford Ranger (blue: my fave!) I headed down there after work and saw Judy climbing out of a very nice '10 Ranger (she was just finishing pics to post on their website). Met Ron a minute later and told them I was interested in the two Ford Rangers. Both trucks were very clean, and super low mileage for ~10 y/o pickups and all the pertinent info was listed on the side of both vehicles. They allowed me to walk around and compare both trucks, didn't bug me or try to upsell me on anything larger or more expensive. I did my evaluation, kicked a few tires, sat inside both driver and passenger sides, and weighed my options.
After talking with Ron and Judy for a few minutes (not about cars, btw) I decided on the 2011 Ranger. Tbh, I really liked the color and it was just what I needed for my dad. No upselling, no BS. I was out of there in ~30 minutes with an absolutely fair price for an unusually clean and well-maintained 2011 Ford Ranger with 36K miles. SCORE. This husband and wife team are personable, knowledgeable, and it was a pleasure buying my Dad's truck from Ron and Judy. From the first moment I walked into the lot, to the celebratory drive-away "honk", this was without a doubt, the easiest and most enjoyable car-buying experience. Thanks Ron and Judy!

I have pro's and con's with this dealership.

Pro's: He was responsive and pro-active with his communication. Didn't seem shady.

Con's: Did not put as much effort into making sure the car was sellable. There was oil caked on the bottom of the engine on the mini cooper I bought and he said he fixed the pervious leak. After I brought it to my mechanic before purchasing, they said it looks like a turbo/valve gasket mixture issue that they can't really tell if there was a active leak due to the oil caked on. The car salesman swears he fixed it and it just needs a pressure wash. He has it cleaned and I didn't see any oil on the ground after a couple days of sitting in the lot, so I trusted it.

A week later I smell burnt oil off and on, so I take it back to my mechanic. Turns out the turbo, gasket/valve is leaking and now I have to pay $1,073 to fix it. So upset.

Don't trust his mechanic.

I had a bad feeling about this place from the moment I got here. I’d checked a few places I needed a good car for a year, then I could get one I was more inclined to buy. But said ok bought a Volvo that 8-10 yrs old tops. So I tested I seemed alright. But I should have walked off the lot when he would only give me the car when my check cleared. I feel dumb now. It didn’t break down right away but constant problems and then the smallest thing would have taken more than the cars cost. NO WAY WILL I EVER DO BUSINESS WITH SOMEONE WHO WONT LET ME TAKE A CAR TIL MY CHECK CLEARS, he probably knew a bit more and knew the car was about on its last leg. Possibly before a check would clear. I don’t right reviews, but he had all the documentation he needed from me. Should’ve listed to my gut… I’d pass up this lot, unless you know your s..t and can give it a good inspection, my humble opinion…

Shady business tactics. I bought a 2012 dodge charger last year with the 2 lights seen in the photo coming on and off. I also noticed in the test drive that the car would make noises when I turned. I felt tension in the steering wheel as well the lights eventually stayed on permanently. I mentioned this to Ron and he brushed it off like nothing was wrong with the vehicle, so I bought it. After 2 days I called him back and told him my mechanic said it may need a power steering pump. He then told me not to tell my creditors that there was a problem with the car and that he would fix it. He said they wouldn't finance it. Unfortunately I didn't have the money for a full diagnostic and couldn't know for sure. He picked the car up to take to his "mechanic" to see what it was. They may or may not have replaced the control arm and gave me the old one in a box. I still felt the problem with the steering. A month or so later my mechanic said it needed a power steering pump and steering rack. A 2k repair after I just paid 4k down on the car. I couldn't do anything but take my loss like a man. Avoid this dealer.
