Permit Sonoma

We have had a great experience as a small nonprofit looking to develop some parcels. They have been knowledgeable, kind/helpful, and professional. When i think of government working well, this is one example that stands out.

I've always had success with advancing my projects, even when winding through complex approvals. Today I went in with a small project and received a permit quite quickly, though I was very well prepared.

The county building department is so awesome. They are friendly and their online portal saves a lot of time and stress.

They are very helpful. You have to push a little to remind them.

Kudos for keeping it up regardless of low staffing and limitations due to covid-19.

I find that it can be a bit challenging to reach a person. Once you do, they are very helpful and friendly. Be patient! They are working really hard and incredibly swamped. They will get you through the process

I’m editing my review from 1 star to 3 now that they’ve adapted the SoCo Report app it appears they’ve entered the 21 century. I had to report a known violation and illegal dwelling and they responded in minutes! I have an appointment with an inspector Nathan Peacock next week. Great job! If all goes well I will edit again and comment.

these incompetent hacks do not return phone calls, they do not return emails, they do not answer the phone. they fail to honor their implied contract to provide services to the tax paying public in a reasonable manner. which means that public funds are obviously being misappropriated. disgusting and unacceptable.

Lady answering the calls at the front is rude and seems to just forward your calls to another dept. Trying to call back but now no one is answering. It seems like having good customer service now and days is too much to ask for. Dislike the fact that people working for the city or county feel so entitled.

I’ve been going to the Sonoma county building department for some years now and every time I leave, I’m either stressed out or angry beyond belief. This place is an absolute mess. Get it together hire staff or better yet staff who actually know what they’re talking about. All we are trying to do is build homes in Sonoma County for people that need them and this department makes it so incredibly stressful it’s beyond belief.

the inspector wrote me up for needless, picky details - a mis-spelled label on my elec panel - and wants me to have the bath fan, which already is certified by Title 24, actually tested in place - which will cost me about $1,000. This is over-reach. Show me - exactly - where the code says that spelling counts, and that a fan, certified for Title 24, has to be tested in place. Balderdash.

They lost my paper work and inwasted a month with no help.... I would better eating garbage then trying to get help from these incompetent people.
