The Desert Rat

The crew at Desert Rat is friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. We always feel great about our experience here! They set us up for great trips every time. We do a lot of hikes as a family and we guide in the area as well. We are always treated great by the staff at the Desert Rat.

Stopped in to get some information on local sport climbing areas. Everyone was super cool and , I believe his name is Coup, was very enthusiastic providing us with solid climbing routes! Great local shop with awesome friendly people!

Rented a bouldering pad from these guys. They were very friendly and helped me find the best places to go bouldering in Saint George. When I returned the pad the next day, they were genuinely interested in how my bouldering experience went. Great folks to work with, I highly recommend them. 10/10.

Go there for the Shop Dog. He's just the most chilled-out, happy dogs on earth. While you're there, check out the cornucopia of goodies that these fine folks offer. They aren't pushy, but are always willing to help. Great selection of climbing, backpacking, and general outdoor gear and prices are fair. We go every time we're in town.

One of the coolest boutique/privately operated recreation stores I’ve been to. Expansive selection of great gear, and very kind staff as well!

Sydney was awesome! We actually were in the store twice, once before going to Zion National Park and once after. Sydney was knowledgeable, fun to talk to, and very helpful both times. We peppered her with questions and she didn't steer us wrong. The store itself is well stocked with everything you need and their prices are comparable to slightly better to the bigger stores. Support local businesses!

I come from Portland, Oregon every October, to climb in St. George, and always make a point to stop in at "the Rat". The people there know the local area well, and you can trust their advice on the gear they sell. A great place to start your outdoor adventures!

This is a great outdoor store in St George, UT. Used to be their Outdoor Outlet years ago, and I loved that place! The staff is friendly and the gear selection is sufficient for most all climbing and outdoor adventures. I picked up a climbing guide book here for our vacation, and I'm looking forward to a lot of fun climbing in the coming years.

I love this local place. The people are nice and I bought my favorite pair of hiking trail running shoes here. They teach you tricks on how to pick out a pair that works best for you. They have lots of amazing brands. Bought my back packs here.

Extremely friendly staff! A nice selection of climbing gear and also the needed accoutrements for your outdoor adventures around the area. The staff had great recommendations for hikes and general knowledge. Awesome to see that some famous climbers have come through here.

I was most impressed by their books and maps for Utah hiking, climbing and other adventures. I got some great book suggestions from one of the knowledgeable staff members. They are a full service outdoor store with a very good gear selection.

An excellent shop for getting top of the line outdoor gear. The folks who run it are highly knowledgeable and helpful and will get you set up with what you need. I was able to get an ultralight inflatable sleeping pad here that I am very happy with. Also the shop dog I met there is an absolute sweetheart.

I wanted to know where I could take my family repelling in the area. They were more than willing to give me some suggestions that turned out well.

Extremely well stocked store with pretty much all equipment needed for your outdoor activities. The two gentlemen who helped me today were very nice to talk with and experienced in their field. Very much enjoyed my visit to The Desert Rat today!

All the gear for all the activities. I especially appreciate the selection of canyoneering gear. However, my last pair of socks from them did not hold up so well - LOL!!

Great selection of hiking shoes and hiking water sandals! Very happy with the variety of brands, colors, sizes, and assistance from staff. And the dog is so sweet and greets everyone.

Awesome store! They have an incredible selection of hiking, camping, climbing etc goods packed into a fairly small space, and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They also accept back used fuel cans if you're flying and can't take it with you. Skip REI and come here instead on the way to your southern Utah outdoor adventures.

Went in for the first time, looking for trail map for the Arizona Strip. They got the manager to help me he found the map that fits my needs. Great selection of maps and help that really help you get what you need. I give my first visit a 5 Star experience.
