Started off with the chili and nacho chips and my wife had the French onion soup with cheese. They were both delicious. I had a fresh turkey club sandwich with shoe string potatoes and a sliced dill pickle , you could tell that the turkey was made fresh.my wife had the chicken pot pie which was very filling an full of chicken and vegetables

Food - delicious. Service - amazing. Atmosphere - warm, cozy & inviting. Have passed this restaurant several times, but this is the 1st time we stopped in and it definitely won’t be the last. Pleasantly pleased. Highly recommend.

So man alive, ,the French onion soup is delicious. I’m a soup person so this is a big deal to me. Got a flight of beer just to give everything a taste and was incredibly pleased with their location offerings. The Kent Falls Brewing and Woodbury Brown Ale were especially delicious.

In addition to the food it’s a post and beam classic made warmer by having a roaring fire. It’s a must stop.

In a sea of mediocrity this place delivers.

This is a tavern that nails it all. The service is always there but not obtrusive.

We went from dinner and my wife had the duck, that from presentation to perfectly executed and married with the sides, could sit on any restaurant table in the country.

We had the same dish at another upscale restaurant close by and the GW nailed it.

Now, lunch, while good, isn't the same experience as the dinner menu.

Had a girls weekend in CT. I made reservations. It was very humid out so we opted to sit inside. We sat in the dining room (not tavern) as it was lighter.
We had fried calamari app which was light and crisp with a nice little spice dipping sauce. I had the steak tips with mashed potatoes and summer veggies mostly squash. My friends had the bone in pork chop with sweet potato fries/cold slaw and crab cakes over mescaline lettuce. We all agreed the meal was excellent. The meat tender , everything fresh. Service was great. The only thing (and I can’t even say negative) was once the dining room filled up it got very hot inside. We asked for the ceiling fans to be turned up and were kindly obliged. Highly recommend. The drive alone through the scenic CT countryside is worth it in daylight. Plan to return in the fall.

Do yourself a favor and visit this restaurant - it’s so beautiful and cozy. The staff truly cares about your experience and the service is unmatched. Great menu and the food is so delicious. Absolutely the best restaurant in the Washington, CT area. We highly recommend and are so excited to visit when they host live music at night.

Great old pub, very rustic and old fashioned decor, but in a good way!
I had fish and chips, as an Ex Brit I struggle to find good fish and chips in the USA, the fish was excellent, the chips were more like fries, they were good, but it would have be perfect with hand cut home made chips/fries.
Would recommend and go again if in the area.

Cozy tavern perfect for meeting up with friends for a drink or enjoying a dinner alone.

The menu is upscale tavern fare with the classic fish and chips and burgers along with dishes like branzino and filet mignon if you’re feeling fancy. I went for the pear and blue cheese salad and added grilled salmon with mulled cider and it was the perfect meal.

Had a GREAT time there Thursday, Dec 16. Particularly Kim and Tiffany who made our day! Food was terrific - blackened chicken sandwich and the chicken pot pie. I never eat oysters, but GW's fried oysters are great! Been there many evenings - outstanding!

Food was excellent! I decided on the French onion soup, which needed some salt and pepper, besides that the flavor was amazing and it was the perfect amount of onion and cheese. For my meal I decided on the steak tips. The steak was the softest steak I have ever had ( even reheated!) The veggies had a great crunch and the potatoes had a great flavor. For dessert I got the gf flourless chocolate cake. The ganache topping was probably the highlight of the entire dessert. Looking forward to going back!

A historic restaurant that is still serving great food. We had the oysters for starters and was pleased with the taste. Our party ordered a range of main courses and all were satisfied. Mine was the Maryland Crab cakes. The dip was perfect.

Surprise visit while vagabonding through Connecticut. Sat at the bar, nice atmosphere, friendly people. My beer was fresh and cold. House wine was nice, per my wife! I had the lobster roll-nicely toasted bun, fresh, firm lightly dressed lobster-fries well done of course. Can’t remember having better!! Don’t remember what my wife had as I was too in to my lobster roll. Hope to pass through Washington Depot again!

This is a great place for a late lunch, especially after a day of hiking in the area. It's cozy, quiet when we were there, and the food was good and quite reasonable.

They had a cheese and broccoli soup that day and it was definitely cheesy! Excellent!

The fish and chips were great - fish crispy coating, soft on the inside and they make their own tartar sauce which is scrumptious.

It's well worth a visit.
