Hatchet Jack’s

More of a fun grab-a-drink place; they may have some snacks. I usually have a couple beers (good selection!) Hatchet Jack's is a great place to go blow off some steam, and learn a new skill. They also have throwing stars now (fun!) Should you have questions about the league, need tips on your throws, etc the staff is always happy assisting. 😊

We took a trip to a Iowa City for Father’s Day weekend and Hatchet Jacks was on our list of places to go. Wow, we were not disappointed! My wife and I spent an hour and a half chucking axes, enjoying some beverages and having a great time. I would have thought that having a large group might have been to the detriment of the fun factor due to prolonged times between turns but it really seemed that the larger groups were having a ton of fun too. We definitely will be coming back and bringing some friends and family!

A good time was had by all. The staff was quick to offer advice on how to throw the hatchets. They also sell a variety of beer and soda.

Love this place, awesome place to come de-stress with your friends and have a few beers. They have party rooms, shuffle board, darts, an arcade, all alongside the main attraction of axe throwing. This location has a bunch of pretty cool staff members ready to help you learn the ropes. Would definitely recommend.

What a fun place! We were traveling from the Iowa Irish Fest in Waterloo Iowa, toward Philadelphia. We made sure to stop in Iowa City at Hatchet Jack's.
I had only "thrown hawks" in a friend's backyard back in San Diego. He'd suspended a huge slab of wood, a cross section of a tree, in his backyard. He tried to teach me how to throw tomahawks while managing NOT to destroy his fence, directly behind the target.
But Hatchet Jack's was a chance to get into the "batting cage." The guys at Hatchet Jack's told me that as I practiced, I would develop a rhythm, and my aim would improve. They were absolutely right. I'm confident that one day I will eventually hit the target! LOL. Thanks for the opportunity to have a fun afternoon and a cool refreshing adult beverage. Perhaps next year when I come to the Iowa Irish Fest again, I'll make it to Iowa City and hit that target dead center. : )

This place is tons of fun! I went with some friends, and we were greeted right when we walked in the door and every employee there was helpful and pleasant. Our instructor was no nonsense about the rules, but also very helpful when it came to technique. They make sure there's no question about what's expected in terms of safety, but make it clear they want you to enjoy yourself. They have a small bar with a selection of beers, and I was happy to see Big Grove! Overall, we all had a wonderful time and will definitely be back again!

Had no stinking clue what to expect walking in but what a fun time it turned out to be!! Went on a double date with friends and every one of us were sticking axes in cottonwood by the 3rd or 4th throw!!! Grrrreat stress reliever!! Different games available. Kinda like darts in a way. Canned cocktails and local iowa craft beers available for purchase. You can order pizzas from pizza ranch right next door. Will definitely go again

I've been here a few times and it's always a blast, but the main reason I wanted to leave a review is because the stemless wine glass I got as a birthday party souvenir recently broke, and Jake went out of his way to deliver the replacement I ordered. I really appreciated it and I look forward to coming back to Hatchet Jack's!

Sounds a little unusual, but amazing time once you go! Staff is great and really helps you get the hang of it! Great selection of local beers to try while you are throwing out just hanging out! They don't serve food but encourage you to bring some with you if you want. They also have private rooms available for parties as well at other games and stuff to do once you are done throwing. If you haven't been yet you are missing out!!!

Hatchet Jack's was a ton of fun. I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for something a little different to do for an evening. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Everyone went out of their way to help us learn how to throw so we could actually hit the board. Can't wait to go again.

Great place for a date or night with friends! Decently priced and has a good selection of canned beer at also a good price. The staff member who worked with us was very helpful and gave us tips. We went on a Friday night and it was not very busy.

This was my first visit. It was a lot of fun. I appreciated the help from the staff showing me some tips and tricks for hatchet throwing. Facility is very nice with well-defined and separated lanes, which makes it nice if more than one group is throwing hatchets. This would be a great place to come after a stressful day at work.

Extremely fun and the staff are super friendly and always willing to help. If you having a bad week and need to get some frustration out this is definitely the place to do it

I was a little nervous about the idea of throwing hatchets but I had a fantastic time! It was harder than I thought it would be but the staff takes the time to show you how to throw and are supportive and helpful if you struggle at first (like I did!) Excellent beer selection and they had games on the TVs. Went with a group of friends and would definitely go again!

Awesome place, extremely friendly staff and very welcoming and patient. The Axpert that helped me was so kind and he helped us the entire night and watched our stance, throwing techniques and helped us to become better throwers. They offered alcoholic beverages for purchase. They also encourage to bring your own snacks. This was truly an awesome experience.

Lots of fun! We paid $20 per person for just over an hour of throwing. It's really easy to get the hang of and the staff are very knowledgeable. The little lesson they give you at the beginning is all you need to get started. Will definitely return in the future!

I arranged a work holiday party at Hatchet Jack's. We had 21 people attend, 16 throwers, and 7 veterans. If you're concerned about the cost- trust me, it's worth it. Also, you may not think an hour is very long, but it's the perfect amount of time. Every single participant is still talking about how much fun they had a week later after the event. All staff members were extremely helpful and so easy to work with via email when I was arranging the event. Lastly, I was quite nervous about the safety of this- I'm happy to say I was proven wrong. The staff is very present and not once did I feel like an ax was going to come back at me- my coworkers all felt the same as well. I can't wait to go back with family over the holidays!
