Baxa's Sutliff Store & Tavern

I was at Baxa's to pick up my son and brother, who were kayaking. I ordered a sandwich and fries, fine but not super impressive. I hear the fried catfish is great, and next time, I'll get that. But the owners, who are staffing, were friendly and helpful. Their kids were outside catching tree frogs, and locals were rubbing elbows with the bikers, cyclists, and other folks enjoying the summer day. Dollar bills cover the ceiling, and the porch has seating, so you can watch the river. The bridge across the street reportedly floated away in a flood but was fetched and put back. I was there on a day when there was a tractor ride. One side of the road was all about the motorcycles, and the other was classic tractors. So, on the Midwest atmosphere, Baxa's checks every box.

What an amazing place. The owners and staff are super friendly and make you feel at home. The food and drinks are very reasonably priced. I had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans, topped with a white gravy... absolutely fantastic flavor... just like Grandma used to make. Comfort food. I am not a big drinker. While they do not serve hard alcohol, they do have a good variety of beer and other spirits. I would highly recommend stopping in if you're ever in the mood to find great food and even greater people!

I love this place so much! Food is so good, excellent service. This is a really good place to eat. Even has Taco Tuesdays that is good to. Highly recommend. Go try it for yourself. 10/10.

We've been here many times and are never disappointed with the food. I will forewarn you if you come on a busy night you do wait a while for your food so we suggest ordering an appetizer. The staff is always friendly. The Baxa Burger is one of our favorite go to items. The jumbo tenderloin is as big as the plate and is not overly breaded and has great flavor; it could feed two people. Thursday night special is chicken fried chicken or chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans and is super delicious. This place only takes cash or check (no credit or debit cards) but there is an ATM machine there for your convenience.

Took a harley ride to the bridge. Decent restaurant, the food is ok but the service was excellent. Both the ladies that checked on our table was great. A definitely relaxed vibe with dollar bills covering the entire ceiling. Great out of the way place, the bridge directly across is a cool sight to see. Definitely bring a group back.

Great food, drinks and they were having a live band outside when we were there! Beautiful river view from the bridge that you can walk out on with your drinks!

This is one of Iowa's Historic Sites in Sutliff. Wonderful place to visit for some get away fun for the day. Great comfort food we all love. I had a Catfish basket. It was GOOOOOOD! They had a live band playing for the people. I will be back for more. If u havent been here before, please plan a trip for the day to just come here and have a good time with good people from ALL OVER!! The staff was very attentive to everyone's needs. A good walk across the Sutliff Historical Bridge to look at the River flow beneath your feet. U will love it!

Came down after a long day of canoeing the Cedar River and was blown away from the amazing service and food. Jumbo tenderloin was jumbo and delicious, one of the few places on earth that I could find cottage fries as well. Drink selection was good. Ability to eat on the bridge Sutliff Bridge was also very cool. If your rolling through, definitely stop and experience some Iowa charm and history!

Good selection of food!! Got the BLT sandwich, I LOVED it. Good portions, great prices!!! Has a pool table, to you can play while you wait for your food. Has a patio, or you can eat across the way on the bridge!! Truly a beautiful place!!!!

I've love the pork cutlet sandwich and mashers here since '87!!! I brought our kids and my ten year old loved the same. Still, he couldn't finish it all as it was such a large portion!! Love Sutliff and a picnic on the Bridge. We drove all the way from Maryland for this experience.

You won't go away hungry. I recommend the breaded tenderloin.

One of the coolest "stumble upon" experiences in my life. After a summer day of riding through miles head high corn, a green ocean of corn, as far as you could see, my brother and I turned down a road following a brown historical sign just to see where it ended. It ended at Baxa's. AC was cranking, lot's of folks having lunch, inside and outside on the scattered picnic tables. We only had a few cold beers, really cold beers. I have not seen a long neck Schlitz since the 70's and they were pretty darn tasty. Everybody was super friendly and welcoming. Be sure to pin a dollar to the ceiling if you can find an open inch.
