Small and modest place, yet with food that's worth trying out. There's a surprising amount of attention to detail with the wait staff when it comes to taking care of you. They even had different kinds of to-go containers when I planned to just plop my guac in the same box as my entree.

Really delicious food! It’s authentic and fresh. I’ve ordered to go both times and the food has been hot. Good portion sizes for the price. The queso has a good flavor and the guac is fresh with a little kick. The flavors and quality are what will keep me coming back. I have no complaints!

I've been here twice this week, (don't judge me) Ordered birria tacos, comes with 3 tacos, both times along with Spanish rice. Delicious, the Spanish rice is the best in the area! The staff is awesome, so friendly! I will definitely be back. I can't offer pictures as I've devoured them so quickly both times.

This place was the best Mexican food we’ve had in the states! The service was awesome and the food was incredible. The guacamole was amazing and the chips were the perfect thickness. Highly recommend the Al Pastor tacos. Our waitress was very nice and brought out some churros for us when she found out we were celebrating. 10/10 and we’d definitely go back!

We absolutely love Flame - the server is very friendly and the food is always good. The restaurant isn't very large so probably not suitable for large groups, but we love the quaintness. While the menu it much smaller than a traditional Mexican restaurant, everything on their menu is awesome and they have some of the best tacos around. They have a couple locations with variations in menus but we like this one the best. Highly recommend for a casual dinner. :)

It’s a beautiful little warm Mexican restaurant. They serve delicious food with smiles. Always friendly service and fast. Their foods are fresh and delicious! You can call ahead of time if you want an in and out order pick up. They take credit card and cash. During your wait for them to prepare your order, you can spend some time reading the history of the restaurant from the pictures hanging on the wall. It’s pretty interesting.
Plenty of parking spots just right in front of the restaurant.

Best chips & salsa around. Although do yourself a favor and get the guacamole & queso cheese dip to go with. The homemade guacamole is absolutely addictive...I'd stop in JUST for that alone. The fried chips are very crispy and delicious.

This place seats 22 people max, so it's quite often full, and you may have a brief wait. However, it's basically a fast-casual restaurant, so most people just stop in for a quick bite.

Everything on the menu that I've tried has been great, however I'm a big fan of the chorizo street tacos in particular, and make sure to get some hot sauce on the side.

My wife, daughter, and I were in town for a dance competition and decided to try this place out based on the excellent reviews. We tried the Al Pastor Tacos, Birria Tacos, Guacamole and Chips, and Asada Fries.
The Al Pastor Tacos were the best my wife had tasted since our time in Panama when we often ate at a restaurant that would slice the pork and pineapple off a spit. She's been searching for anything close for a few years and finally found a solid match.
The guacamole was homemade excellence with homemade chips as well. Excellent flavor and texture to both.
The Birria Tacos were enjoyed by my daughter who shared a bite of the beef with me that was great and made me wish I'd had that meat on the fries.
I had the Asada Fries which were great. The french fries were cooked well with a bit of crispness on the outside and the toppings were tasty and went well together. The Asada was really good, but that Birria would have made the dish just a bit better.

A truly great gem that could use a larger space and more conspicuous location to bring in more visitors.

I decided to have the FLAME food truck cater at my wedding this last October and it was one of the best decisions I had made for my big day. From the beginning of planning to when the food was being served the people at FLAME were nothing but amazing. They were great with communication and helping me figure out everything I needed. All of my guests loved them and the food they served and had nothing but good things to say. A special thank you to Sandra the Catering Coordinator as she was a very big help with everything and a wonderful person to work with! I highly recommend FLAME if you are looking for any catering for any event!

Great place to come and get some authentic Mexican street food. If I'm not mistaken, this place opened up after they first were operating as a taco truck. Their tacos and burritos had so much success that they had to open a restaurant. My family came here for the first time and the tacos were amazing. The burrito was great! Taste like home, Michoacán! I glanced over, and they had some portraits of the people of Mexico. In particular a map of a town in the state of Michoacán which I found very interesting!

Just ordered a burrito via Door Dash, and it's honestly one of the best burritos in the DSM area, hands down.

I want to sample more, but this could easily replace my current number one with more showings. This is California style authentic here, the only place in DSM that I've found that delivers that sort of California style as far as burritos go.

Exceptionally well prepared, the entire Carne Asada burrito was packed with flavor. From the carne to the cilantro rice, everything was perfect. I like how they rolled the tortilla, very solid and tight and nice and toasted. Delicous!!

The red roasted salsa was amazing and I appreciate they put a slice of lime in the box. All in all, a VERY SOLID 5 out of 5 stars. Will be going back again, LOTS.

Excellent food, street tacos are small but packed with meat. Order the fresh guacamole and you won’t be disappointed.

Flame the Taqueria brings authentic tacos and Hispanic food right to Johnston. You can’t go wrong by starting your meal off with the chips and queso, but their salsa is the star of the appetizers. The burritos and tacos do not disappoint but are complimented nicely by a side of the Mexican corn. Would highly recommend and can’t wait to go back to try something new.

For a small restaurant they offer great food! Had the birria tacos, Torta with asada, and street tacos. Food was delicious. Definitely can’t wait to try more items.

Such an amazing spot. A must try if you are ever in the Des Moines area. Everything we had was awesome. Super fast and friendly service. We had the queso and chorizo dip w/ the homemade chips. I had the birria tacos and my husband had a shrimp and steak burrito. Everything was delicious and Briee was also very nice and friendly!

Flame catered my birthday party and I could not have asked for a better experience. Everything was set up perfectly and tasted absolutely delicious. They set up during the party (as requested) and were very unobtrusive. They made sure everything was ready to go at the time we requested. The food was fresh and tasty and was a big hit with everyone at the party. I highly recommend using them for your event!

The best Mexican food in town. Birria tacos are the best I’ve had. I order them at least 3x a week. Sometimes more.
