Tacos Villanueva

This sounds like an exaggeration, It's not. This is one of the best meals in Des Moines. I've never had a burrito like this anywhere else. I grew up in Southern California. I've eaten a few tacos. This place is amazing. The picture is of the carne asada burrito. It's not steak, it's ground chuck - you won't care. You won't want a steak taco after this. The hot sauce is amazing. How good could taco sauce be? Pretty dang good. As of summer 2022, one of these burritos is eight bucks. Don't have eight bucks, split one with a friend. It's a big burrito. Everything else is top notch. Don't like burritos or tacos? Get a "torta". If you haven't had one, it's a big sandwich - almost as good as the burrito.

Been a favorite since college when I first discovered Tacos Villanueva. Would highly recommend the steak burrito, the steak street tacos or the steak quesadilla. Always fast, fresh and filling!

Tacos Villanueva never disappoints. My husband had 4 steak tacos [sorry no pic]... and he helped with a few bites of my enormous chorizo burrito. Delicious . The ingredients were perfectly distributed throughout the slightly crispy tortilla. They're always friendly. I also love that they have a row of picnic tables.

Steak tacos and quesadillas are so good! Quesadillas came out hot and slightly crispy. Red sauce also tasty. Probably my favorite taco truck.

I got the chicken burrito and pork tacos which were both very delicious. The pork tasted strong of clove, which paired well with the tomatillo salsa. I love that they even came with grilled jalapeño and onion. I was a bit bummed that the radish slices weren't fresh.

Got 4 street tacos (1 chicken, 1 steak, 2 asada) and they were some of the best tacos I’ve ever had. The asada was my favorite. Make sure to try the spicy red sauce on your food, it’s actually hot without being offensive. Will definitely be back when I’m in the area again

Best taco truck in Des Moines!! They never disappoint

This is an excellent taco truck. I was happy to see a taco truck that still has $2 tacos. Service was fast, and the amount of food is generous. The green sauce is amazing - both spicy and smokey. Grilled onions and radishes are included on the side. They use a pager system to let you know when your food is ready. The only miss was that the beverage selection was limited when we went for a late dinner, but it's understandable. I can see why this is considered one of the top taco trucks in Des Moines.

Still a good place to eat I just don't like how they ground their meat like hamburger meat

The place was easy to find and has a shaded area with several picnic tables. It get busy at lunch but the wait is less than 10 minutes.

This taco truck never disappoints. Me and my husband love them so much. We order 7 steak tacos with only meat and cheese and 7 regular steak tacos (we love to have extra for left overs lol) AND they NEVER mess up our order. My husband is a very picky eater so he loves this about them. Green vegetables makes him cringe so if they mistakenly put cilantro on his he would not eat them. Their red sauce is so amazing as well. I like the green too, but that red sauce is my favorite! We eat at this truck 1-2 times a week and we can’t stop. We have family and friends go to this truck and they love it just as much. I’ve tried other taco trucks when they’re closed on Sunday’s and it is just not the same.

Fast, fresh, yummy. It truly is that good. If you don't try the steak torta and love it, you may have a mental illness.

If you have ever been to Southern California, you probably know that good taco trucks are all the rage. They are also hard to surpass when it comes to authenticity and quality in both flavor and service. Tacos quickly became my main source of sustenance. Upon moving back to Des Moines, I was severely disappointed with many of the local Mexican restaurants and taco shops, either for lack of authenticity or just simply not being able to meet my taste's expectations after having been exposed to new heights in deliciousness.

After a long search and many inquiries, I was recommended to try Tacos Villanueva. I was initially surprised that they didn't have pollo(chicken) as a meat option for tacos. Not a big deal. I order two carne(steak) and two pastor (pork) tacos. Upon receiving my food, I was automatically pleased that it was the traditional "street taco" style, served with lime, radish and cilantro for garnish, and one red sauce and one green sauce. Given my previous experience with tacos, I knew I was going to enjoy the green sauce just by looking at it. I didn't want to try it yet though, I wanted to try the tacos in their purest form first, without any sauce. One bite and I was instantly transported back to my favorite taco truck in Long Beach, CA and had started the delicious flavor journey that is Tacos Villanueva. Before I knew it, the ride was over and my tacos were gone. The only sense of remorse I had stemmed from the fact that I didn't order more. I immediately ordered a Carne Asada burrito to go.

From exceptional food, to exception service(both English and Spanish), I will keep supporting this business. If you're looking for the best tacos in Des Moines, Villanueva is the safest choice. I also highly recommend calling ahead for to go orders, sometimes they get busy and there is a little bit of a wait, but that is to be expected.

Wow. Glad a made a pit stop here while visiting family in the area. The last time I had great Mexican food like this was when I was in San Diego. Asada and pastor tacos and asada quesadilla were on point! 🤤 This is a detour worthy stop!
