The High Life Lounge

Beer, beer, and more beer! Honestly probably the biggest beer selection I’ve ever seen at a bar. The amount of taps on the wall was crazy. The food was good too, I got the spam egg and cheese sandwich. For appetizer we got the bacon wrapped tots. This place was pretty awesome, if I lived here you’d see me in there pretty regularly.

They good was delicious and great atmosphere. Some guests at the bar were really intoxicated and loud which was annoying but it is a lounge. I love the nostalgia with wood paneling. Great place to chill.

I cannot say enough good things! This place makes the term "dive bar" a term of endearment. 1 part Cheers, and many parts old school neighborhood corner bar. The food was good, the service was beyond friendly. People watching was a blast. The beer was cold. The music playlist was spot on. It was exactly what was needed on a cold and rainy night. Get the patty melt...you know you want to. And don't forget a Miller High Life!

We picked the High Life Lounge to eat at while visiting Des Moines because they were featured on the Travel Channel. Did not disappoint! Cool atmosphere and great food.

Passing through Des Moines looking for a bite to eat with a diverse menu and the High Life Lounge was the perfect spot.

We had a hard time deciding on what we wanted but we left happy with our choices.

We started with the bacon wrapped smokies, and I suggest mixing the syrup and ranch, I know it sounds weird but trust me.

My friend got the Pot Roast Philly Sandwich, it was a bit dry, but we added some brown gravy to it and it made it way better.

What stole the show was the Brosted Chicken. I had been craving fried chicken for awhile and this is exactly what I was looking for. Super crispy and flavorful, the mashed potatoes & Gravy were the perfect side with it, while the Mac & Cheese needed some more flavor.

If I pass through Des Moines again I definitely would come back for the chicken alone!

This is a really fun place to grab a bite to eat and a drink. The High Life Lounge is a great restaurant and I love that it is open until 11pm. My friend and I wanted to get a meal but most of the other places closed at 9pm or 10pm. It's nice that this place stays open so late. The atmosphere is really fun here. It can be loud though, so if you want a quiet dinner, maybe find a different place. The food was really good though! I really liked the sweet potatoe tater tots! I definitely recommend checking this place out!

This place is a true throwback to a simpler time of neighborhood bar and grills. The service is super friendly, with no pretense, and the old-school decor makes it feel like you're in your grandparents' basement. And I can't find Schlitz anywhere in Minneapolis... but here it is!

Hands down one of the most chill bar in Des Moines. Ryan our bartender was excellent, he’s a cool dude…very kind and hospitable and he makes the Best Green tea shots ever !! This place is a must to go visit and have a good time.

Iconic place worth visiting. The atmosphere is spot on! Great food, cold drinks. Very upbeat.

Food was very affordable but didn't like the burger wasn't fresh it was a pre-made patty and it was missing the topping like lettuce tomatoes and ketchup only had pickles and onion but service was fast if just suggest getting fresh hamburger instead of frozen patties fries where ok though.

As the name would suggest...this place is a tavern! And it's fantastic! Old school decor, look at the beers on tap...outstanding! Friendly staff and just blocks away from Principal Park

Tenderloin is good, burgers are also very good. Food came out hot and fresh. Service was good and friendly.

This place is a blast from the past! (Even though it’s newer than you think!). Food is fantastic and they make shots out of Tang!

I recently had a chance to eat at this place again after many years away. I was not disappointed. I order the broasted chicken, Mac & cheese, and tater tots for my meal and we ordered the Bacon wrapped little smokies as an appetizer. The Bacon was a touch overdone, the the meal was absolutely awesome. High Life has not lost their touch on their ability to make damn good food. I would recommend this place to everyone.

Had cheese curds, Hamms beer(several, lol) and the Rarebit Burger. This is a nostalgic atmosphere place with vintage beers and a great menu. Server (Jenna) was awesome and very attentive. Lots of old signs to look at too. Food was tasty and plentiful. Been here before and never disappointed.

Nice eclectic feeling reminds me of a 70 's era Route 66 road stop. Service was quick, the menu has many comfort foods with a twist. Servers were friendly and attentive. Mixed age crowd. If looking for something different, the are attached to El Bait Shop. Check out other guides reviews of there. So great stop fir a 2 for 1 experience!

Ice cold beer on tap and the bacon wrapped tator tots were even better than advertised. The broasted chicken was very juicy and tender as well.
